Better leave that never say die sticker on. It's applicable.
It also holds a fair bit of sentimental value to me too, heh. It was an old paragliding company that's sadly gone out of business now actually
I bought a cop car [t]https://www.govdeals.com/photos/7529/7529_632_5.jpg[/t] https://www.govdeals.com/index.cfm?fa=Main.Item&itemid=632&acctid=7529 So, how fucked might I be? It's probably got a shitload of idle time.
What is wrong with you people...

My '07 Charger Pursuit (V8) had 9000 hours when I bought it in 2013. It was great. Other than the interior lights being a little dim. Lol.
What is wrong with you people...
I was gonna buy a Subaru WRX STI but nobody in my state had it with an automatic transmission. And I didn't wanna learn manual. THESE ARE THE PRICES WE PAY. [editline]21st December 2016[/editline] Also cause I'm a federal agent I can throw blue and white lights on it, and say it's my personal and duty car.
Because CHEAP. MUSCLE. [editline]21st December 2016[/editline] My 05 cvpi with 189k miles is the most reliable car I've ever owned.
Yeah, I'm interested in it too. Alternate ways to power cars is always cool. I forgot about how much torque steam engines produce with their massive stroker motors.
Steam is an amazing power source. As -- dare I say -- practical as Jay Leno's steam car seems to be, I imagine a modern take on the concept would actually be a formidable ride.
Tbh if you have the option to learn stick you really should. It would allow for so much more freedom at the time of choosing a car. Here in the EU pretty much everyone drives stick. Automatics are usually really rare
I've driven (and daily a stick), I prefer autos. I really do not understand the fascination with manuals.
I've driven (and daily a stick), I prefer autos. But I'd rather take a detour and enjoy smooth & flowing traffic instead and burn a little extra fuel than that shit.

psh, unsyncroed column shift is obviously best setup :v:
flappy paddles are great
 I don't want a computer dictating when I can shift, goes against the whole controlfreak part of me. And too many of them are by the factory economy minded and you'd have to pay too much to a third-party to get them reflashed so they're tolerateable. I'm JUST on good terms with syncromesh. [editline]22nd December 2016[/editline] Also lol service intervals for DSG's and auto's compared to stickshift boxes. Although I currently have a dual-mass flywheel, but that's going out the moment I have flywheel or clutch problems for good ol' single-mass.

That said, manual is fun as hell, and getting an automatic is the biggest thing I regret about my Impreza.
flappy paddles are great
if its not 3 on the tree, dogbox, or fmvb I don't want anything to do with it
I dont think you've driven the right vehicles to have a saying on this if your outlook is this of an automatic with flappys.
I don't understand the elitism some stick drivers have. The only benefit you get out of stick nowadays is people are less likely to steal it. A buddy of mine was adamant that stick gives you so much more control and was more fuel efficient and a bunch of other crap and he's barely spent 10 hours behind the wheel of a car and his license expired and he didn't renew it, not to mention when you compare stick to most modern automatic transmissions all of that is completely untrue. The only reason I want a stick car is so that I can learn and understand how to drive one.
I want to learn stick so I can realize my dream [del]DDing[/del] making a camper out of a fucking soviet GAZ or an M35A2. [t]http://www.nf6x.net/wp/wp-content/uploads/1999/11/p02.jpg[/t] :dogwow:
You should talk to DP
Is there a torque curve graph of a steam engine like that?
Not really. You measure the power of steam at the cylinder using cylinder cards which are practically a measure of the boiler's output for a given cutoff. And since the pressure falls as the steam expands during the stroke, the curve is going to sink down as the stroke goes on and is going to vary based on cutoff, back pressure, atmosphere pressure and on and on. So it's not like you can just go "NUMBER" and have that be a consistent truth. In rail use the thing will always make far more torque than the wheels could ever put down, so it isn't useful to measure, and it's not like anyone has ever dyno'd a doble. The most basic way to find the upper power limit is just PSI * Surface area of the piston in inches. So the surface area is 15 square inches not counting the piston rings, which comes out at 11261.71875 pounds of force from one cylinder at peak pressure. I think the actual area of the piston is higher than that, plus the piston ring is more area to tack on so that's pretty conservative. The usual way to calculate the power a steam engine makes in the real world is just divide the peak cylinder pressure by 2 and use that for your calculations, and since there's two HP cylinders you can basically take that as your power output, not including the low pressure cylinders that reuse that steam. But i'd need a more accurate model of the engine before i could guess at what numbers those would make.
Well it sure sounds like you have the math and method down, so good luck in everything. Think maybe at some point you got post a video of the simulator showing some stuff? Unless you wanna keep some putz from trying to steal ideas, cuz that'd suck.
If i had it at place i liked, sure honestly everything i'm doing is all out in the open if you know where to look. I'm basically just taking the Franklin Type B gear as applied to the T1 and combining it with third gen steam theory as written by Porta. Also for a body i'm thinking of putting all this in a Mark 10 Jag [T]https://i.ytimg.com/vi/8Gj9zdpAtsU/maxresdefault.jpg[/T] Because let's be honest, it looks like it was steam powered to begin with. Plus the IRS setup is great and exactly what i'd want for this, and the car itself has plenty of space for all the crap it'd need while still leaving enough space to actually be usable as a car
if its not 3 on the tree, dogbox, or fmvb I don't want anything to do with it
I really want to try sticking a dogbox behind a torque converter, maybe with a trans brake for shifting into 1st.
shhhhhh jesus fuck don't ruin the surprise, I'm still waiting for the paperwork from the gov.
00 - CUSTOM BUILD?
00 - CUSTOM BUILD?
I don't understand what you mean by 00, if your wondering its variant type its just a regular ol multifuel cargo with a dead front winch. The vehicle was never issued a SF97 so in the provess of getting a texas title which is painfull.
I don't want a computer dictating when I can shift, goes against the whole controlfreak part of me.
Stage 1 PCM on my PT Cruiser made the trans wakeup. It shifts so god damn fast now. Plus it's an auto stick. You can literally put it in any gear and it will stay. You can start from a stop in 3rd. It's pretty awesome.
Oh, no, 00 - CUSTOM BUILD is what you get listed as when you VIN a vehicle you assembled yourself. I thought for a hot minute you'd frankensteined something together.
There's something about driving a stick that makes you feel more bonded to the car. Spooling up the engine, stabbing in the clutch, yanking it into the next gear.. it's all very, primordial is the car sense. It just makes me feel good. But.. I'm not totally sure I'd want a stick as a daily. I'm not a morning person and there's days (especially really cold days) where I welcome not having to worry about shifting. I can concentrate on just staying awake Also, got my block back from the machine shop yesterday! Got right on task and painted that bugger.
