Well I kinda crashed mine. It still worked after though.
That's funny, I also crashed my first, but apart from busted radiator it still ran fine.
Considering my (sorta my) '97 Camry has 270k+ mi and still runs I'd call it reliable.
300k miles or 350k km seems to almost be the breaking point for most vehicles. I never see many with more than that on them, its either they get thrown out because something expensive goes, or never sold.
I actually see cars with 300k or more on them at work with a bit of regularity. A guy with an old taco, one of those weirdo 5cyl canyons that sees use as a work vehicle at an airfield, a bunch of camrys, a 1 ton Chebby pickup with like 480k that a pavement company uses, are all regulars I can think of with that high mileage.
Lots of shitboxes with 250k that we shouldn't even touch due to them knocking so loud, as well, though.
Shower thought:
Do you guys think that toyotas and hondas have a reputation for reliability because the kind of people who buy them are less likely to drive them hard than a Ford or Chevy or etc?
It's almost entirely the design and build quality. The driver plays a part, but frankly I think Honda/Toyota are just built to a higher standard than most domestics.
My father swore off of American cars after he got his Acura in the mid 90s as it was so problem-free compared to all the Dodges and Pontiacs he owned before. And while he gets regular maintenance, he drives his cars hard.
The worst thing any of his Hondas have had is a circuit blowing in the HVAC system causing it to lock on maximum heat, at 150000 miles. In comparison, all his previous cars would blow their alternator at 60-70k miles - conveniently right after the warranty lapsed - and usually the coolant would start leaking not long after.
I have noticed the driver affects it on domestic brands, however. Pontiacs are always beat up as shit and break down constantly, while Buicks are for the most part cared for as it's all old farts driving them; I rarely see a Buick broken down on the side of the road, while Pontiacs and Chevys are a common sight despite sharing pretty much all their parts.
Dunno. Half my family are all Mopar-focused mechanics so I'm sure I'm biased... but we haven't had major problems with any of our vehicles that I can think of. That includes Jeep of all flavors, 1st thru 3rd Gen Rams, r/t chargers, both gens of 300cs, neons, Durangos, hell, my grandmother's concorde with the allegedly and infamously trash 2.7L motor still gets around great (my father swears this is because we religiously followed the 3k oil change recommendation from the owners manual)
Only mopar products we can't personally vouch for are probably avengers and Nitros since we've never owned them. Though I know multiple people with 4cyl and 6cyl Avengers who like them.
Still, I've got used to people calling most of Chryslers fleet junk. Probably right to varying degrees, honestly. My family is probably much better about preventing problems than most.
Heard mixed things about the earlier 200s/Darts, but well, breaking down is part of that fiat charm, right? :v:

This is the back side of the fr disk. The pad was down to metal for so long that it ate half the disk away. The right side of the car was covered in powered rist and brake fluid.
My truck was like that when I bought it from a friend's family. No one could tell me who did the brakes last.

Dude this charger is so fucking fun. It's just an awesome car, and for what I got in the auction it was well worth what I paid. It's in great shape, still has 80k left in it at least.

Although I'm seriously thinking about getting one of those led signs you can display messages with to say 'Not a cop, go faster'.
Imagine the mixed messages drivers would get lmao

Shoved the wheel studs in the lathe to clean them off, figured it was a good measure considering everything else will be new.

The high today was lower than your windchill. Texas can survive two days of winter.
It's -2F outside here and anytime I went over 20MPH my truck would start losing heat. :( It's too cold for it.
Also, my Daytona wont start now. All of a sudden while driving down the highway it started to misfire. Drove it home and parked it, now it wont turn on.

Has spark, wires are good, coil is good, has fuel, changed spark plugs just in case but confirmed the old ones were fine.
There's just no bang bang. The spark plugs do arc correctly, but if I crank it over a few times, they'll have fuel on them when I take them out.
Low compression? Cam skipped a tooth? Can't figure it out.

Check the timing and check the compression, spray some either in the TB and see if she fires. Them oldie engines can be temperamental. My mom had an 89 Aries K with that same engine. My dad took it to dixie county to his property there about 3 1/2 hours away and on the way back cyl 1 detonated blowing a big ass hole in the piston. Ran on three the whole way back.
Also, good fucking choice of music there with Six.
It's currently 18f, and it's supposed to snow tomorrow. Again. Then freezing rain on Sunday. Again. Then it's supposed to thaw and refreeze Monday. Fuck.
Who was the one saying they had a bad temp sensor?
[editline]7th January 2017[/editline]
Nvm it's Gulen. Nvm nvm nvn
I have seen a bad temp senor flood out a engine before.

Most old Mercs for sale around here has around 400-500k km on them.

Maybe it helps if you don't stand in water.
I'm going to look at a parts car candidate for my E-class.
http://maine.craigslist.org/cto/5947790545.html
Hope the interior is somewhat decent, the previous owner of mine destroyed and ruined everything from the carpets to the seat controls somehow and either way I'd have plenty of extra parts to keep me chugging along for the next couple of years.

I'm the other way around. I like creating/maintaining machines.
I just like creating something that both serves a function and is so complicated that you start considering it an entity. There' just a zen state where you're working towards something and every twist of a nut or dimension in a drawing is a step closer towards a higher goal. I guess you could make the argument that it's kinda a paternal thing.
If i had bill gates money i'd just buy a huge tract of land in bumblefuck new mexico, build a house and errect a small foundry, large machine shop and an errecting floor with a massive overhead crane and just design/build shit for the rest of my days. Sending out for third party shops to do any really large castings or work i can't do. That's my idea of paradise.

How? I've got a new sensor and it seems like a 5 minute job anyways.
How? I've got a new sensor and it seems like a 5 minute job anyways.
The car thinks it's -30 degrees outside and uses a fuel trim accordingly and floods out the engine and makes it run like dog shit if you can ever get it going.

And. I've already had a customer call me on emergency and demand I go out there in my 2wd truck to fix a leak.....
Hahaha oh wow, okay. Called the mechanic about the MR2, he finally actually has the fuel pump in this time, but now he's only getting 10lbs compression on cylinders 3 and 4. Says it might need a full rebuild. Should I get it rebuilt or just pull the trigger and have him put a 20v blacktop in it?
how about just dingle boring it and slap in new rings.
