Oh yeah, my dad bought that off an old friend of his. Dude's old money and it was his daily for like 30 years. It's not concours but with some work it could be. Trunk seal went and so some of the sheet metal rotted out, there's something up with the brakes and there's some bubble rust on the front end, but other than that it's rock solid. The motor is a work of art too. 8 liters of british passive aggression. Thing handles like an 50's Lincoln though. I'll say this, you don't want a bad rolls. Honestly i'd recommend finding a local rolls or english car club and asking those folks. There's always someone willing to part with something or someone who knows someone who has what you're looking for. Plus they know what to do when it blows up. Do not craigslist for anything other than parts cars. For some domestic mopar that can take abuse, sure. Something like a rolls, not so much. They're bulletproof but only if you tend to them. Also that entire generation was made for about 20 years and apart from minor changes to the bumpers, they're all identical. Although you do want the "second generation" Silver Shadow, IE anything after '77. They changed up a bit of stuff to make it drive better and is just generally a better car. Plus they redid the hood ornament so nobody could steal them, which is good. But after that there's fuck all difference between the years.
it being a 73 and long wheelbase is the main reason I'm iffy on that rolls on cl. it's been doing weddings for years and the guy selling it is just getting old. the fact that it's been doing weddings makes me concerned about the potential for bodily fluids in the car too. the long wheelbase is especially concerning considering what I want to do with it. I can fix color. the platform kicks ass for rally racing, and being that I can't afford a corniche and that I have a strange fetish for 4 door cars anyway I'm hoping that a silver shadow will tickle my fancy right. there aren't that many in rally racing these days due to the age and weren't many when they were new due to their cost but the handful that were kicked ass at dakar and the mexican 1000. 8 liters? I thought they only ever shipped with 6.25 or 6.75 liter motors?
I think I'm about to lose a belt, my car sounds like I put a blower on it. :v:
Got home from work at 4am, couldn't find parking near my apartment, but found a spot two buildings over. Got a call at 10am from the office saying someone called saying I was parked in their spot, they were upset and we're going to block me in(holy shit keep your pants on), so I get up and get dressed and go out to move my car...And there's no one there and two spots next to me are open. The parking lot has like 3 inches of solid ice so you can't even see the parking spots...And I'm 99% sure it was an unreserved parking spot. When the snow melts I'm going to go out of my way to park in that spot.
The more I get into cars, the more I realize I know jack shit on how engines really work. What's a good book/resource on how ICEs work?
Also I slipped and fell twice getting my mail 😠
The more I get into cars, the more I realize I know jack shit on how engines really work. Next you take that fancy bullshit college shit that you have to learn everything by a book and throw it out the window and go hands on 1:1 with the car. Or just queue up every single one of eric the car guys vidjas and you will at least know more.
The more I get into cars, the more I realize I know jack shit on how engines really work. What's a good book/resource on how ICEs work?
They suck squeeze bang and blow... in that order
They suck squeeze bang and blow... in that order
Mine has issues banging. It seems to be a 90's kid issue as these 2000' kids don't understand morals. Leave your boat on the charger for 3 days? No prob fam I charge this battery no prob. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1031910/Guns/20170114_141254.jpg[/t] Stupid cunt charger with only 1 charging mode and that's HAVE 10 AMPS YOU BITCH. I topped off the fluid levels on that battery and the fluid boiled out. So the charger ruined that battery but not the other weirdly enough.
I bought some winter tires today. The snow and ice now feels like pavement [editline]14th January 2017[/editline] I mean other than the ruts and bumps
Slowly fixing my SUS. Truck developed a severe vibration, have been too busy to work on that. Did all 4 brakes, switched from ceramic to semi-metallic. I didn't have the money to get good ceramics that would both last and stop good, so i bought good metallics. 2x better now. Changed trans fluid+filter. Same issue as my other Subaru; books claim 4-5qts on a drain+fill, it was 6.5-7qts. Much quicker shifting. Started changing swaybar endlinks. All 4 are shot and fall apart as soon as i unbolt them. Sucks not having a lift, pulled a neck muscle doing the very first one.
So my fiances car, a 2011 kia soul, teeny weeny hatchback with a non turboed 2.0l, fancy shmancy dohc constant variable valve jiggery pokery, ect, gets the same mpg as... Drumrooooollllll ... My worn out dirtnasty 4.6l over-two-ton remanned sohc heavily used crown vic with plugged up cats. What the hell is the point of having a gutless little 4 banger if you dont at least get good mileage?
There's probably something wrong with your fiance's car. Gotta be...Right? :v: I don't know what you get but I get a consistent 14-15 mpg, eeeevery tank since I've owned the car. I've replaced spark plugs, cops and TPS. Haven't gotten around to the fuel filter yet.
Eh, i get 14-20. She gets 16-20 20 in both cars being road trip at 75 constantly for the entire tank

I think my fuel filter's done for but I haven't bothered to check. Lately I've been getting a sniff over 15-16 combined, but I've been enjoying myself too much. On E85 I was averaging 12mpg combined for a month or so before gas got cheap enough. Here's the secret: fast rear gears make you far more fuel efficient around town because you don't have to fuckin stomp on it to get out of your own way. Once I'm up to freeway speed it's gravy, but at a stoplight it's very slow to get going. However my granny gears make it a superb highway cruiser. 1900rpm at 80mph isn't bad.
I mostly drive backroads, with my 3.55s Definitely wins stop lights. I've had people take off on me before too, like they thought I was racing them lol
Trans 2 is out! I got 20 miles to the gallon coasting downhill at 90 miles per hour today

Outside that they get horrible mileage.

Just found out about r/roastmycar, and look what I found https://www.reddit.com/r/RoastMyCar/comments/464ml8/roast_my_hellcat_challenger Just enough power to haul the weight of his ego and his political career that never took off.
Those teeny weeny ecoboxes are only good for inner city cruising or literal grannydriving. Outside that they get horrible mileage.
Word. The Smart FourTwo gets slightly less MPG than a Mazda 3. Why have that little piece of garbage when you could have two more seats and some cargo space for the same fuel economy?

Fuel economy's almost the same as the econocars, but I get enough trunk space to actually haul shit.

Spent all fucking day with a grinder again :v: Just not the usual way, i cut away the original roof. Drilled out about what seemed like a million spot welds. And finally make adjustments so the carbon roof fits nice n snug. I've done everything that's needed for the roof, when it's painted I can just glue it on and be done with it.
what series are you planning on racing this in? the build look pretty great. i'm planning on trying to race single-seaters once this summer starts.
Thanks! Well here it's a bit more open, I currently drive in the amateur series called DNRT. In which there are 3 devisions. Toer, sport, and supersport. I drive in the sport class. The class above me is more for semi-pro's or at least people which a truckload of that sponsor money. The classes are kinda based on weight/power ratio'sand the times you drive. At any time the officials can move you higher or lower in a division. And there are seperate classes for special cars like Italia cup (mostly old alfa romeos) E30 cup MX5 cup
