[QUOTE=butre;51719540]change it every 5k. I've never heard of a company suggesting 20k between oil changes. are you sure you're not confusing oil changes with scheduled services?[/QUOTE]
The car has an "oil life" counter that isn't really an oil life counter. It just counts down to 20k or to 1 year, and works out a percentage based on that. The manual doesn't say when to change it other than when the oil life counter tells you to.

No it's common these days, modern oil and manufacturing tolerances and general manufacturing quality are really, really good, not to mention the little manufacturing tricks you can pull to increase the mileage gaps. Oil changes and servicing intervals are almost always the same in those types of car, it's all done at the same time, X miles or 1 year, not usually separate anymore
I mentioned VW suggesting oil changes every 10k miles and he started yelling at me that I was a fucking dumbass and I'm going to grenade my car and VW does it to kill their cars to sell them more often and shit.
Like jesus dude I've never owned a VW before what do you want from me.
I started talking with my dad about minibikes, turns out he knows mickey rupp from his air racing days. Fuckin small world.

Unless I'm searching wrong, none of the local auto stores carry a pump for it other than the full unit for $230+ in off brands. Rock Auto has AC Delco for $170.

This is not the type of beaten I am talking about. I mean the type of deal where they're walking and they just don't know it yet. Actual rolling scrapheaps.

Does my $650, once wrecked, once ran with half its oil capacity and no coolant, and smelly Mercedes 190E with 200k miles and blown suspension count?

Speaking of Mercedes and people walking, some guy over on the 163-ML Class section of Benzworld put pepper in his power steering and hilarity ensued.

Even motorcycles have 10k km intervals nowadays. I was having a discussion with my mate about a bike he's buying, and we were both surprised to find it has a 10k km service interval, and plugs are changed every 20k.

On pace to break 200k miles this year in the blazer. Bought it for $2500. If I get to 200k, I'd call it a worthwhile investment.

Actually true for the Pumpe-düse diesels, and somewhat also for the earlier Commonrails.
Turns out the camshafts and lifters will only live for around 5 years at-best if you run with the extended service intervals.
If you like a healthy engine, stick to the 'normal' interval and don't skimp on the oil.
The older VW distribution pump diesels on the other hand are pretty much indestructible, unless there's excessive water in the fuel, or been overheated so the head warps.
I was bored on a road trip once and me and my dad did some math on how much we pay for cars, cost plus maintinence, compared to how many miles we get from them, and the old explorer thats been in the family since i was born is at about 8 cents per mile. My dad's truck and my Vic are currently at 10 cents a mile. I expect the Vic to be down around 6 by the time I'm done with it.
[editline]24th January 2017[/editline]
If you add in cost of fuel i rough guesstimate the vic to be around 27cents/mile
While helping my dad get rid of trash at the dump I spotted a Trabant toy car in a share shack they had at said dump

[QUOTE=Strontboer;51719196]I hate you guys. Now I don't know what I want AT ALL.
That's the kind of green I wanted, but I had to choose a RAL colour and it didn't turn out like that.
Any idea on how I would get the exact same colour? And what's wrong with the white interior? It's pretty standard for a racing car. Anything black will get insanely hot inside.[/QUOTE]
Its a factory mopar color, J6 "Green Go", its a single stage color. You could phone RAL and ask them to match it?
As for the cage, it doesn't have to be black, my dads cage is a gunmetal grey so its a little "cooler" inside while still appearing dark. You could also put in a roof vent?
Tint would help a whole bunch, I dont know what the rules are for racing, i'd go with 20% so you can still see while keeping the light from getting in, even do the windshield as well. I know that sounds weird, but its a trend up here with diesel trucks to tint the windshield and from the inside with 35% you cant tell the difference except outside.
@Aetna, I was waiting for that comment :v:
Nah she's taken by a pretty decent dude.
To make it hurt more, she has a 1967 barracuda and she's going to school to be a heavy duty mechanic
So, looking at new to me cars again. Looking at possibly a 2010 Ford Taurus SHO. Anyone have any experience with them and any word on their reliability? I've personally always had good success with Fords in the past.

My 2010 Ford Taurus 1:24 diecast gets pretty good mileage down a hill if that helps.

pursuit model though.
Really like the SHO's. Haven't heard anything bad about them personally.

previously abused? the fuck are you talking about, this fleet of one has gotten up to 90 more times in my posession than it probably did in its entire service life in burlingame
It fucking hates going slow.

Usually a good way to get a halfway decent large, roomy, comfy Veeate for cheap, as far as Crown Vics/Chargers go.

Its not going 90... its 0-100% throttle a ton. 0-100% braking a ton. Hitting a lot of shit. offroading things that shouldnt leave pavement.. the mud/blood/piss/whatever...
I wouldnt buy one. Not worth it.

It's just as bad as buying a diesel truck from a kid with a tuner and he openly brags about how fast it goes in the race tune.
Went to my favorite junkyard today, when I was out their I made a post on the diesel group I'm on (23000 members, biggest in the province) saying I'll scout some stuff for people who're looking (kinda kept the place hidden for myself :v:)
My god my phone has been going off steady and they couldn't get anything done because theirs was too!
They gave me a set of seats for free and cut me some wicked prices on things, I just like givin' back a little because they've helped me a lot with questions all the time :)
I'm still getting messages, their poor phone is going to blow up, its just a 3 man operation
Picked up a built diesel auto trans (needs a go through but plenty of billet stuff inside) for $600 with a triple disc converter ($1500 new, saves me a bunch)
Front driveshaft, tailgate, and center console for my silver rig
and eventually a hood and exhaust, my dad said I can find a new place to live before he lets me run that hood stack :v:
Selling my DD 09 halfton tomorrow and a 70 duster... so much shit to do!
Can someone give me a rundown of what the major issues with a Northstar V8 Engine is? People around me keep saying they're shit, but everything I've read online has been basically "Good as long as you perform your basic maintenance."
ITS A FWD V8!!!

Sheer badassery aside, its probably not bad UNTIL you have to work on it. Just imagine what its like to do plugs or any sort of maitenence on the one head! Or even any kind of work for that matter
transverse engine. No thanks.

Far as I can tell the one in my Caddy is solid. Just needs the thermostat changed, the purge line cleared (Because some dickhead left K-Seal in the coolant and never cleaned it. I'm certain it needs it) and a nice oil change.
Honestly as long as it isn't major like "It blows rods out the exhaust pipe," I'm not that intimidated by maintenance.
also what's wrong with FWD?

They like to crack blocks, apparently, and what's the point when you get the same economy and better performance from an LS? It's a shame because stock they sound fantastic.
[editline]24th January 2017[/editline]
[QUOTE=kyle877;51723259]also what's wrong with FWD?[/QUOTE]
It's subjectively far worse at being fun and objectively somewhat better for just being an A to B appliance. This is the antithesis of car guy priorities.
[editline]24th January 2017[/editline]
I can't really explain why it's more fun. I can only say get a FWD and RWD car with similar performance and try to do donuts in the rain. It's easy to choose after that.
[editline]24th January 2017[/editline]
Like our PT Cruiser (RIP) was significantly faster than my Crown Victoria, and on a tight road it handled way better than my Vic, but I'd still say the Vic is more fun because it slides about when it's wet out, or on the dirt.
Speaking of crown vics, does anyone know where I can get some god damn seatbelts that will bolt into my back seat? I've been looking for the last year and can't find a solid answer. I pulled seatbelts out of a wrecked 04 town car and only the center belt lined up with any holes.
Still have the rest of the interior sitting in my cousin's basement until spring.
