Those Northstars are sweethearts when they're running good. I had the 4.0L in my Aurora. Plugs aren't as bad as you'd thing to do. Mine hit almost 200k miles before I got rid of the car, and the only engine work I'd done was a water pump. It sounded sweet, pulled pretty good.. ran smooth.
BUT like ya said, any actual work means the engine's coming out. Head gaskets, etc.
Crammed in transverse engines are a dumb idea, though. We had a Lincoln in the shop that needed a water pump. Well that's timing belt driven. That means the whole engine comes out to do it. Pretty neat. AKA pretty expensive :v:
Finally a day off..
I fired the engine back up, no more nonsense, all seems well. Spent some time tuning it in, setting fuel pressure, idle, mix on the carb, timing on the dizzy, etc. It's getting there. I'll worry more about the exact timing once it hits the temps the car will be driven at, but for now it's not bad.

Then I got antsy, hooked up and bled the clutch, and took it to the end of the block and back, LOL. Only had an ebrake for brakes and a block of wood for a chair.. but it felt good. Seems like it'll be peppy to drive!
That's all for now! Time to finish the suspension and start bodywork.
previously abused? the fuck are you talking about, this fleet of one has gotten up to 90 more times in my posession than it probably did in its entire service life in burlingame
It fucking hates going slow.
90 is like what, 3.5k rpm in 5th in my little 1.4 box? What's that got to do with anything

going 90 isn't going to hurt a car, not unless it goes 90 into a wall. police cars spend about 10000 hours running, with 9900 of those hours being idle hours and the remaining 100 being full throttle jumping curbs breaking suspension components smashing oil pans transporting naked meth heads covered in blood and vomit.
my dad has a story from when he was a cop, during a pursuit he hit a railroad crossing at about 80 miles per hour, caught air, and when he landed he bottomed out the suspension hard enough that he knocked off the bump stops, caved in the mounts, and caught the oil pan on a manhole, ripping the thing off. he continued pursuit for another 8 minutes with no oil pan and completely destroyed suspension, didn't stop until the suspect flipped his car.
Yeah but I bet it looked pretty sweet catching that much air

I think I got lucky because I've learned how to pick em most of the time, Burlingame is a hoity toity rich white city up the peninsula. The only broken things on it were the sway bar end links, the transmission cooler had a leak, the rear differential/suspension tie thing was loose, and the ECM had a gremlin.
I had a rebuilt transmission swapped in when I had an unexpected windfall, and it's still under warranty. Suspension's been rebuilt, new throttle body and spark plugs, regularly fluid changed.
The only problem it currently has is belt squeal, and I'm pretty sure it's the tensioner arm. I love this thing.
The 85 though, ohhh boy.
It rattles at idle, which I'm pretty sure is the harmonic balancer being loose, there's a tick under acceleration that I'm pretty sure is a bad lifter, it leaks oil, and it can barely run cold and burns rich as all get out.

You aren't selling it very well
All super cheap fixes and the transmission swap was elective. Really, though, I see that as pretty decent for a police fleet vehicle. Most people I know get them with shit like rod knocks, totally breached exhaust systems, completely destroyed suspensions...
The company car, an old CHP car, would seize up and vomit coolant for no discernible reason and run just fine after. I refused to drive it.
Mine was just 3 years old when I got it, so it avoided a lot of abuse.I wont say its not well broken in, but I will say that I floor it, skid the brakes, hop curbs, and offroad it plenty myself. I break pieces of it all the time, but pieces are cheap, and for someone like me, it makes more sense to get a $2000 car and keep feeding it parts at about $500 a year than to spend $5000-$10000 and pussyfoot it around.

Pretty much how I feel.
I bought my diesel for $500.
Two years later, I have spent about $2000 rebuilding the rear axle, the brake system, the entire steering system, fuel system, etc.
At this point, a lot of the truck is brand new and will likely outlive a $5000-10000 truck.
So... I might be buying a motorcycle real soon. My mate sent me a link to a KTM SMC 690 being auctioned away on Monday when he had the highest bid, and it went up a couple hundred dollars yesterday/this morning and he hasn't put a new bid in yet. It needs some work, but it is way under market price, even with all the parts needed to make it 100% like new you come out on top quite well.
It's listed with an unknown mileage and missing keys, but I called the auction house and apparently they got a hold of the keys.

Do it. That's a really good deal and worthwhile. Have you owned bikes before?
Do it. That's a really good deal and worthwhile. Have you owned bikes before?
Did it. It became a little more expensive than I would've liked, but whatevs, still a decent deal. I have a much smaller Yamaha and already signed up for motorcycles lessons come spring or whenever.
I want to pick myself up either a Zero or a honda CTX with a dual clutch
manual transmissions and I do not get along
Can someone give me a rundown of what the major issues with a Northstar V8 Engine is? People around me keep saying they're shit, but everything I've read online has been basically "Good as long as you perform your basic maintenance."
Oil leaks under the intake and it's a pain in the ass to get in there and change the gaskets. And then it will leak again.
Dammit, now the 85's got a smoking oil leak at the back of the engine block. There's a pristine 83 on CL right now but it's about 3500 more than I can spare at the moment, otherwise I'd junk this thing and pick it up.
Vauxhall say 20k or 1 year. I usually just do 20 mile trips. I asked about changing the oil and they just said wait till the service is due.
[editline]24th January 2017[/editline]
I have done 15k miles on it so far.
Whilst I wouldn't suggest the american method of changing your oil every 5k, what we used to recommend at the auto parts place I used to work at is change it every 10k or 12 months. 15k is excessive, and 20k is ridiculous. I don't know what makes them think that's a reasonable service interval, but if I were you I would go to your dealership and demand a service on it.
5k?....Kilometers? The "American" interval is 3k miles or 3 months. :v:
Thats 3106 miles, so its a bit more. Km and mi conversion is fucking strange.
when I say 5k I mean 5k miles. the only people advocating 3k miles are shilling for oil companies

Smart man! Definitely take the MSF, or whatever equivalent there is in Norway. It's saved my ass so many times over the last 5 years - $250 well spent.
Anyone know of any good deals on a decent, wont explode, single din radio with an AUX jack/USB access?
Water got into the darts radio somehow and killed it, need a new one to put in

Crutchfield usually has some deals, they might be clearing out 2016 models. Clutch probably has some way better suggestions.

I'm not ever going to a 5k oil change interval on either of my cars regardless of what you say. The oil is dark and noticeably thinner by 3k, you can do what you wish.
I removed a lot of spaghetti from the Dart today. I also installed a lot of proper spaghetti that was attached way nicer.

I took my PA330 out of the dashboard and wired the car to move it to the trunk. I needed more room behind the glove box for wire management and relays. Im trying to decide where to put it. This is the best amplifier ive ever owned. Not huge. Not super powerful. Just works, and doesnt get hot.

Along with the fuse block i wired in the spotlight and reattached the handle, and clocked it to be spun upwards and operated, eventually want to use a shrink tube instead of zip ties to hold the power wire on.

The wires in the kick are everything going from the front back and being harnessed together. Included is the rear speaker wires, door popper solenoid line for that side, tail light and brake light wires, amp remote lead, and RCAs from the HU. The other side of the car has the main power so theres no room for anything.
It's so strange seeing your Dart in that bold blue instead of turbine bronze, but it looks great. What happened to the white top you had in the original post?
I got a bullbar from a junkyard for my Explorer. me and my gf took it off with a shitty wrench and an emergency brake I took out of an old van beside the Ford. took about an hour for something that would take probably 15 mins with the right tools. they gave it to me for 30$ for all the trouble I put into getting it off though.
got my "new" shoes today.
[t]https://puu.sh/tALyD.JPG[/t]
been working on the body, just a lot of sanding and some stripping of the paint, namely on the boot. got the undercoat ready to go on so I'll take some photos after that's done.
What's posted above? If I scroll up my browser crashes.
Well nothing is above you, but there's some pictures of wheels on the last page.
[editline]26th January 2017[/editline]
And serj posted some big ass pics
I've been seeing really really REALLY good things out of the Chinese new 20v batteries for tools.
Yellow bandwagon ahoy!
