There's a guy in my grandma's neighborhood with a ton of 60s luxury mopar sitting out to rot. A Fury, an Imperial, a New Yorker... Guy's crazier than a shithouse rat though, won't talk to anyone. These cars haven't moved since I was real little, so I've just got to watch them slowly die for my whole life. :(

You'd just have to talk to whomever is in charge of it
Guy who used to own most of the city of Ball Ground was rumored to have bought a brand new car for his newborn daughter, and then he buried said car on one of his properties to be dug up and given to her as a gift for when she turns 18.
How not to preserve a car
what blows my mind about those sort of stories is that people think their daughters are gonna want an 18 year old car that's spent it's whole life completely covered in dirt [editline]2nd February 2017[/editline] and if they did there's plenty of dirty 18 year old cars on craigslist for way cheaper

Its not a stretch from his usual shit. Guy owned like, 8 rock shops along the main ballground stretch. Most right next to each other. Rock shops. 'cept here's the rub, not only did he think this was a good idea... he never sold shit to anybody. And I'm not talking like, "ohh his business was slow..." No, NO. Dude sat in his truck on the main ballground stretch and watched his stores every day solely to chase off ANYBODY even so much as looking inside his stores. Store fronts, signs, the things in said stores even had price tags, yet he LITERALLY chased off LITERALLY every potential customer until the day he fucking died.
Sounds like he might be crazy enough to actually do it
The whole storing a car thing kinda sounds like fun, like say I take an old vehicle of mine, throw it in an air tight sea can, and dig it up in 20 or more years time. Or like my first/favorite vehicle from my youth (probably a pristine 12 valve haha!) and when im retired or really old dig it up! Cant imagine what the world of vehicles would be like then.

I buzzed off all of the crummy black paint and I'm down to metal or original paint basically everywhere. From there I'm going to seal the whole thing with gooood epoxy, and bodywork until my hands fall off. Not looking forward to this... One has actual holes in the bottom. But they're also not even close to straight. So double whammy. It's going to take some work. And some more 'normal' sanding under the hood. That's an easy prep. I seldom drive my car on the freeway, but I needed to tour a campus that I'm hoping to attend. The mr2 definitely isn't a highway cruiser since it settles at about 4k-ish at 80mph. My friend was with me and my voice got sore from talking over the drone. :v:
@clutch2 what exactly is that car again? 70s corola?
An RA40 Celica, 1978!

What are your rear gears?
So I had the usual 5000 mile service check done on my car (just a boring 04 CRV) today, and while up on the lift apparently they noticed that the rear differential mounts were cracking and had a significant amount of play. They quoted it out for 730 including labor, which seems steep but I only have the one quote so far I live in an apartment now with no real access to tools or even a jack (yet another reason I want a house ASAP, can hardly change my own damn oil), and the parking spaces here are so small I doubt I could do the job even with all the right equipment. Replacement parts look like they'd be around $180 all said and done, so it's really a bummer I can't do it myself. Admittedly, I'm not really a car dude and the most I've done was a full AC system refurb on my old ranger, along with replacing the plugs and wires on the very same. I just seem to have some attitude at taking things apart and putting them back together in a mostly correct fashion. Also, I can follow tutorials lol Should I go looking around for a second opinion? I chose a local shop that has really solid reviews and the guys there seemed honest, and made it clear that this fix wasn't urgent (just that it would get worse over time). I haven't noticed anything that could be this, yet, and a cursory Google search made it seem not uncommon for my make/model anyways. I don't want to do an unnecessary repair, because my savings kinda got welped by my dog getting attacked (out $300 even after pet insurance) and because I was retarded and got in a fender-bender

The rear diff clutch packs really don't like being neglected. I probably wouldn't worry about it unless you hear it/feel it or you can see that they are totally ruined.
It never hurts to call around about the issue and ask for a quick estimate. I got more than $300 in variance when calling about my busted window regulator.

This was before my parents gave me the car and transferred the title too, and all my dad mentioned was "yeah they had to adjust the timings" Also to be fair, the difference in fluids maintenance between the CRV and my old Ranger has been pretty wide haha [editline]2nd February 2017[/editline]
It never hurts to call around about the issue and ask for a quick estimate. I guess it makes for better acceleration, but still, I just thought it was kinda strange.
Loving the new 500. Still can't believe I got this for $1k with only 3000 miles. Already: - Cleaned and rebuilt the carbs - Swapped the spark plugs - New oil + filter - New air filter - Rejetted in preparation for exhaust New tires are in the mail as we speak, as these 14 year old tires like to wander quite a bit. I'm more surprised it isn't kawasaki green. All the Ninja's I know of sports that color.

You're totally leaving on that rough outline of "POLICE" on purpose, aren't you :smug:

The schmoo would probably ruin the polishing pad pretty quick
why not polish it away?
Haven't gotten around to it. I work 6 days a week, so taking a day to work on the car in the middle of winter isn't the easiest thing. I'll definitely work on it on a nice day when its warm.
