I thought you could upgrade to more modern equipment in California?
It's complicated. It has to be OEM smog control equipment, according to my mechanic. At this point another newer thermoquad (or possibly TBI if one exists from Dodge)would be all I can change it to. I can't upgrade to a better more efficient cleaner burning carb, for example, unless it comes from Dodge themselves.

1989 Dodge Dakota 318 (and the 360) use TBI. So did the V6 Magnum. Down to the 2.2/2.5L.
I am Dave. I have a 1968 Dodge Dart with a custom built 230 cubic inch turbocharged slant six. Its a love/love relationship with this car where i just like changing it into a restomodded beast. I bought it off craigslist 3 1/2 years ago with 4 functioning cylinders and a shitty green interior.

I bought it after i got divorced from a bad bad time. (Divorced was a good thing). I did get two children who i love very much out of it who are 4 and 6 now. The car was my way of making a totally huge change in my life. I wanted something that suited my style and how i felt about myself, and thats what i always saw myself driving. I embraced a lot of nerdy and "cool" things that i always wanted to do, and never let anyone change that about me. That made it easier to whittle down people who accepted me for who i was. The car also helped drop a few people out early. "Oh. I dont like old cars"... oh, guess thats too bad for you.
My current fiancee i picked up in this car from the train station the first day i met her. I brang the car back there and proposed to her in front of a bunch of strangers 2 years later. Her grandpa had the same damn car at the time. We became super close because of it. (Me and him). The car literally helped me solidify a relationship that was actually meant to be. A month ago, my fiancee suggested i sell it because it was stressing me out lately and making me sad. I reminded her of why it could never be sold and she quickly recinded the suggestion.
I have a 99 Durango as well for work, and transporting 3 of my children, all of us really. Yes i have 3 kids. In 3 days ill be 28. I have a mixed family right now, and we're wierd, and the car is pretty much a part of that. I wouldnt change anything about it.

I'm hoping for a simple repin, or just plug in thing.
The 2 ways im looking at are $120-200. The biggest difference, which is well worth it to me, is 2 way and highly increased range. My 300+ has a 10ft range or so, the 2 ways are 1500ft-1 mile.

Rest assured you will never get the advertised range on it, you will be able to penetrate a house and stuff with ease but the main issue is interference a lot of other devices use the same frequency as they transmit somewhere in the 430ish MHz range and limited to 25mW. All brands have this issue as I don't think anyone has adopted the 2.4ghz, 5.0ghz, or 900 MHz spectrum yet allowing you to blast out 1watt.
Another big issue is their crypto is so large they have to rely a lot on signal strength and if its spotty just by a little bit your toast, but sometimes your signal can make it to the car but the car's 2way signal can't make it back to you telling your fob it was a failed start / lost comms.
Maybe clutch can comment on his luck with longer distances and densely populated areas being problematic to 2ways.
I'm Eric (...or mustang sally), I've had 56 vehicles and I'm only 21. Nothing has really stuck with me longer than 6 months.... unless it was in pieces.... or if it was my 67 Dodge Dart (which serj still grilles me to get done).

This is my moneypit. A 1998 Dodge 2500 12 valve, 5 speed. I chose this picture because despite being drastically different now, this is one of the few photo's I have of it on the road.
I bought this big hunk of shit for a reason unbeknownst to me, just another dodge truck (number 7 I think), drive it, fix it, sell it. Have my fun, same as everything else.
Except it was different, I dont know what but every single time I sat in the seat of it any worry I had would vanish. The same damn ear to ear grin every time.
The guages didnt work, the battery wouldn't charge, it had no 5th gear, I had to stall it to shut it off, 3rd gear would grind, the clutch would slip, none of the lights would work, the exhaust was broken, the trans/transfercase/engine pissed oil, the steering was all over the road, the door had a hole in it, the interior was trashed.... and I paid $6600 and didnt have a care in the world.
I had a nice turn key 2006 chev diesel that didnt need a thing, and I sold it to fix this up. My dad thought I was crazy but I see this truck as a convas to convey myself and my skills. A representation of me and a physical manifestation of my hard work.
Instead of paying $20000 to have a new truck like all the other ones on the road, I decided to put that money instead into this truck to make something truely different that had every weakness become a strongpoint. A 1000hp street driven truck that rides like a cadillac and tows like a dually... a far stretch maybe, but possible.
Its gained a fair amount of noteriety in the province as being "one of the coolest 12 valves around" despite to date having spent more time apart than on the road. I build it for myself, but having others appreciate the hard work is a nice pat on the back.
I dont know... I just lock myself in the garage some days and work on it, or even just sit inside it and listen to music. Its my truck. My pride and joy.
Am I a tard or have you never posted pics of that particular truck here before? You are talking about the blacked out one, right? Hard to keep track. :v:
I can't blame you for jumping on it, though. I would trade any darn GM diesel (though one circa '06 should actually be decent, the 6.6 right?) for the most raggedy cummies.
I was looking at a similar 12v 2nd Gen when I was car shopping, but I needed something I could work on if I had to, and me and my dad aren't very familiar with working on diesels so we skipped it for my Xterra. I don't regret it, but I do wonder from time to time.

Lol salty about advertised range just a little?? Don't worry, so am I. So often I get customers at work go "oh cool a whole mile!!" to which I need to remind them that '1 mile' translates to about '2 city blocks or so'.
I can get about a block and a half away from my car and remote start it, and I have the current 1 mile LCD Viper remote. Anything more than that, forget it.
Although now Compustar has a '3 mile' remote.. which is sweet. But I haven't gotten my hands on it to really test what the real world ranges are.

Experimented a little bit.. I think a bit more angle makes the wing look better. Frees up the trunk lock, doesn't stick out quite as far.. not bad.

I'd fuckign love a t11. It makes my mouth froth.
I just dont want to pay 350~$ on JUST the remote and another 100$ on a brain.
Nor do I wana buy 2032's every other week for my encore e7 fob....
My remotes are lucky to make it through a wall and 75ft.
my name is Not Important, i've only had 5 cars, 4 of which were volvos of varying models, this is the one that stuck the longest. I bought it in August of 2013, maybe a couple weeks after my family and I made the cross country move to Washington state. I've considered selling it a couple times at two different periods, once at 6 months, and once before we moved out of Washington to now New Hampshire(not a fan). first time I tried to sell it, I couldn't find a buyer, second time I tried I had people contacting me within hours, I got one guy from Portland really interested, and during a drive over the cascades one night I decided I wanted to keep it... I turned down $2k so I could spend another $1k to ship it over to the salt/lyme encrusted roads of NH.
It's slow as tits, burns oil like it's its job, has a wrecked drivers seat in which i sit directly on the springs, the overdrive doesn't work properly above 40 degrees, the rear muffler fell off 3 years ago, and it sits at ~3200RPM at 75MPH. Only reason I couldn't let myself part with it is because I think it looks fantastic, it's got the most unique color I've ever seen, the paint is faded in all the right spots, and when the summer wheels are on it it looks slick as fuck. I wish I could say that whenever I get inside my problems melt away, or I feel some irreplaceable attachment to it whenever I take a drive, but unfortunately my attachment is just skin deep - I think it looks rad. I could make up some bullshit about how this is the last piece of Washington I have, but it doesn't really matter.
Hoping to build it up to be what I want it to be over time, first step is to get the S70 registered, inspected, etc, so I've got a daily while this is in the garage. I made a large ($1k) order a few weeks ago to IPD for a bunch of nice suspension shit, like shorter springs, struts, strut braces, etc., I just need to get around to putting it all on.

If my remote travelled a city block I'd be amazed. Mine only goes about as far as I can throw a rock, if you have line of sight.
Unf.
That Frontier makes me want to make the incredibly financially unsound plunge into trading my base Xterra in for a new Pro-4x model. My local dealer had a blue one sitting up on ramps not too long ago. Not that I'd get much trade in on an '07 with 117,000 on it, but still.

Seggsy. Fuck Nissan for killing it. Apparently, while I was drunk as hell at a friends house a while, I started lamenting over the loss of it on the market, and actually got teary eyed and babbling over the fact that Jeeps and Forerunners will no longer have a decent competitior now that the X is dead and gone.
I just hope it isn't wrenched from the grave and turned into a unibody crossover momwagon at this point.
I'm Zebulon and I'm on mobile so no pics right now. I've owned 2 cars, one was a 1979 Pontiac Catalina 4 door with the 302 "oddblock". The other is my current 1995 Honda Accord V6, wich is minorly modified. Pics later, sleep now.

I post a decent amount of photos of things im doing to it, but not of the truck itself!
Yeah it was the only good year besides 2007 for the 6.6L, got shit mileage, decent power, and rode nice. I didnt have a tuner on it though.
The old dodge diesels, 12 valve especially, are pretty user friendly as far as maitenance goes. They take lots of oil, but also dont have as often for oil changes, theres no real wear items besides the odd water pump.
Expensive when they're done up nice, or cheap when they're broken. Good for turning a profit.
They're one of the few vehicles you can street drive with 1000hp and still get 15-25mpg depending on the configuration.

kind of an example, makes it look low and sleak
Well I guess it's my turn now. I'm , which was my nickname too for a while until I figured it might not be in my best interest if people searching my name found my FP profile. I'm 22 years old and had a bunch of cars by now.
My favorite car, and this probably won't come as a suprise; is the car I'm working on now, the E36 racecar. This is the first picture I have of it, it's from when I picked it up the first time. It was old, dented, dirty. But not much rust, and the plates (we can't choose them) really stood out to me : NR GT25

Now the story behind it is kinda lame, and not all that exciting but I'll explain anyway. I started racing in a bunch of different E36's. The most serious one being the green M3, which I "build" together with a good buddy. Now the truth is, he did most of the work. It was the first car I'd actually do any mechanical work on. All the other cars were 99% costmetical changes. So even with the green racecar, I knew the basic theory behind most things. But I never did any real dirty work. I mean I helped place the engine and what not, but this was mostly my buddy directing things and me following his directions. The most I'd ever done on my own was do a oil/brake/calliper change and whatnot. I've always wanted to build one myself, this was due to our difference in work-method. He was more of quick n dirty, if it works its good. We going racing? Bring a box of ductape. And all I wanted to do was to take my time for everything, do things right.
And now, this is going to sound real fucking cheesy...but as I was busy working on the green racecar I heard this song on the radio I had never heard before, it was a song in my native tongue and it really hit home. Just a simple song, just vocals and a guitar. But for some reason I just knew I had to start on this racecar that I'd always had in my mind. And right there on the spot I promised myself I would start right away. I wouldn't ever play that song again until the car was done. And then when it's done, I'll sit back, look at the car... and play that song again.
As I'm sitting here I realise this might sound really fucking weird.[sp]stupid[/sp] But for me this has been a massive project, I've been working on this car for the past months, at least 20-30 hours a week. It's the biggest project I've ever started, in anything. And at the same time I haven't ever commited myself more to anything then to finish this car. Half a year ago I wouldn't have every imagined myself dicking around with an engine, and now I'm rebuilding a car from scratch.
So yeah, that's my story. It might not be special. But it's mine :v:

I'm Alex, and I'm a 20 year old engineering student who happens to own two Mercedes-Benzes. My favorite is a white 1992 190E 2.6 that has an automatic transmission, power seats, a sunroof, and real Bosch Euro headlights (rare/expensive in the US). I bought the car for $650 on the way to my mom's house from where I was living in Long Island at the time. I bought the car from a high school student who had paid $700 for it and was driving it around with no coolant and no oil. I got it home, and realized it was pissing coolant through a hole in the radiator. $1400 later it's my daily driver and despite being wrecked before, it's an absolute joy to drive.

Yeah, that's the only way I sort of find my X wanting.
IIRC, there were people who were swapping those Nismo Frontier exhaust systems in Xterras to give the vq40 a bit of a throatier sound to it, a guyvon /o/ linked me to a thread on the 2nd Gen Xterras forum, but they were pretty darn expensive pipezz.
Welp, had to deal with what I think is the very shitty anti theft system in my 2001 Kia Optima, again!
It's happened 4-5 times before, where the car locks me in while trying to get out due to hitting the locks or some shit. It I guess if you half-way unlock either side, then lock it, then try to unlock, it stays locked or something along those lines.
Well, anyway, I got locked out the fucking thing with it running! I first tried to unlock the driver's side to no avail, but eventually found my way in on the passenger side. No problems, just started the car, closed the door and continued to brush off the snow. Then when I was ready to roll, I attempted to open the driver's door, and boom, all the locks go off. Again, was still running.
Had to wait about 1hr 15-1hr 30mins for a police officer to arrive with a lock pick kit. It was a bit of a guessing game as to whether the police with the lock kit, or my dad with the spare key would arrive first.
Anyone have any guesses on how to possibly disable this shitty feature? The locks are such shit on this shitbox of a car.
I can't wait to go back to locking my keys in the trunk of my Miata...
it just sounds like to me your door actuators are old and weak or getting hung
If all goes well after this weekend I'll have a 1991 gt4 celica and I'll be selling my vz sv6 Commodore

These Durablock sanding blocks are sick.. I was sure about paying $50 for some foam blocks, lol.. but they're worth. I got rolls of sticky backed sandpaper in today, too.. and the bodywork is progressing smooth. With the right equipment block sanding goes from a nightmare to only a chore. I'm impressed.
Here's a couple spots I've been tooling on.. also hitting the roof and other quarter panel, too.

And if everything goes right I'm in the middle of slamming together a mortgage to buy a house that just went up for sale (right after it sold at bank auction and I missed it... >_>)
Got the mortgage paper work in today, pulled a favor from a friend who's a contractor to inspect it (all checked out), and hopefully going to negotiate a price and offer earnest money on it tomorrow so I don't get it sold out from under me if the bank takes a few days. It's all happening in a bit of a flash, but that's how things go.
Look at this garageeeee

@clutch fuck yeah! That looks way better! With a little work and lowering it a little further down to match the trunk height you can easily blend the corner of the wing to fit the back profile.
I imagine you're going to put the car really low? With the dark color it'll come off really smooth, versus the stock ass which its abrupt.
The closest vehicle I can think of to match the back of your car would be a foxbody mustang

Versus having it higher up
