Someone kill me
A long lost relative told me he was a car painter n bla bla bla and he would touch up racecar and make it perfect.
Well... there's honestly no words. There's paint DRIPPING from the car. There are leaking spots as big as my fucking hand. There's dust, big peices of what ever the fuck and black shit in the paint. There are finger and arm prints of leaning against the paint and spraying it away. It's an absolute fucking disaster.

Do you have pictures?
Did you pay him?
Any way to force his ass to fix it?
Let it dry and start sanding.

I didn't pay him, and I know for a fact that he didn't mean to ruin it. But he just MASSIVELY mistook the job. Afterwards he told me it was almost 20 years ago he last painted.
I'm not sure if I want him to even try and fix it, afraight it will only get worse.
I didn't even take pictures, I just wanted to get out of there.
Welp, finally started work again on the eclipse. Gave my heads to a shop, they rebuilt them for $160 which is pretty cheap considering i wanted to buy new ones for $450 lol. Now I just gotta put all this shit back together somehow :v:

fuck that man, my dad has this 73 holden monaro that he paid some professional painter to paint it
instead he had it for months, only ever primered it and then got primer all over the fucking interior and seats which were otherwise mint and the most expensive factory interior trim available
10+ years later and my dad still hasn't trusted anyone since to paint it or any other car he has :v:

Time to make him a lost relative once again.
Holy shit dude... all that work and it was looking so good in primer. I thought I was gonna come on one of these days and it was gonna be pics of a dope ass finish.
Sorry to hear that news. I don't fucking get why when other people 'help' things seem to go downhill. I don't trust basically anything to anyone because that always seems to happen. Even professionals sometimes!
I know it's like taking pics of your dead baby.. but I gotta see. Hopefully it's salvageable and we can get you right back on track. If you can spray primer you can spray basecoat, and I bet you'll do a way better job.
Remember my Celica's engine bay debacle? Where I painted it and 10 minutes later it sprinkled and ruined the finish? That took like 2 days to sand down again and repaint. It's a huge mountain to climb because of the 'fuck I shouldn't have to do this TWICE' factor, but it'll be worth it if it really looks that bad. White paint and livery hides things like runs/sags.. but only to an extent.
In solidarity, here's my life sanding.
The main mud work on the body/hood I think is done finally. On to glazing all the panels. I'm getting better with the glaze, figuring how to put it on pretty thin so it goes farther. I've found a couple extra little small dents in the glazing stage, so that's pretty exciting, I probably wouldn't have notice/gotten them if I'd gone from filler to primer.

Getting excited for first priming soonish..
Also just got my sideskirts in yesterday. They're a little more fast n' furious than the picture looked. But I'll chop em up and see how they look on here. Now that I've got all the aero stuff I can mock it all up, screw on the flares, etc.. get a real sort of sense of what it'll be like, and how much editing I gotta do to make all the stuff fit the body, LOL.

Sounds a lot like my dad in regards to any repairs/maintenance. He we pretty bad with paining too, although he did gradually improve, especially after a couple all-nighters he pulled because he wanted to learn more about lacquer paint (for Miatas). By the end of the process of trying to touch up the paint on my bumper and other spots, he seemed to get it a bit better than I did. He was still very horrid at sanding though, no fucking finesse. There is still a square spot on my trunk that even I can't seem to fix because it became horribly uneven. My dad even left this retarded square out line around the whole edge, as if he just smeared the paint on (since we jumped between cans and small brushes).

I mean, don't get me wrong, an awesome paint job is sweet. But paint would be kind of a low priority on a race car for me.
I'd probably leave it in bondo and primer. But then again, I don't race.
I took the tank to my dads shop and he painted it. I did the prep work so yeah I helped woot. I didnt care enough to bondo the few small dents though. I hope I dont regret that later.

I would have done it, but my desire to have it look nice overpowered my "I can do it myself" bravado.
I also got a sissy bar for my bike. The pad for it is in the mail.

Since my bikes battery is shot, and Ive got a new AGM in the mail, I figured Id do a bit of science. I dumped out the sulfuric acid, rinsed it out a few times, and replaced it with alum water. The first few times I put it on the charger and discharged it, the charger went into fault mode, but each time I cycled it, it got more capacity. This morning, on the 5th cycle it cranked the engine over 5 slow times, and after work on the 6th cycle, it cranked fast enough to actually start the thing, and took much longer to discharge than before. Ill keep cycling it and see how far I can recover it. I think whats happening is the aluminum sulfate is breaking down the crystals on the plates.
Tank looks good dude. Fresh paint is dope 8)
I got antsy and wanted to do a little playing tonight. And lo and behold it's 2am and I gotta get up to go to the bank before work tomorrow. Such is how it goes when you get sucked into what you're working on.
Get the screw gun out and...

Then I fiddled with the side skirts.
I don't think they're going to be a go.

I could adapt them easy enough.. but they side around 2" lower than the pinch weld. That's low. And they wouldn't carry over to the fronts and rears.. it'd look out of place. I'm gonna call them a waste of money, toss em on craigslist and change ideas to one that I originally was tossing around. I'm going to probably just do a flat flare made out of bent steel or aluminum. Easy, simple, more the style of the car.
Like this, kinda. Not quite as flared out, though.

In the end I only want the skirt to go down to about the pinch weld.. that will cover the lower 'sill' that's normally covered by a bland-ish factory skirt, which I'm missing.
This is what's normally on there sorta kinda.. just want a little more pop than that.

The only reason he (and I let him) go at it was because the rear quarter panel wasn't shiny enough and had some overspray on it.
I bought this OBD adapter from ebay,

Oh shoot I missed that post. It looked awesome!! It take it that was before it was ruined? You may be able to sand back down to that point and do spot repairs. Depending on just how bad and how many areas he screwed up.
If you're ever at the point where it's shiny like you have but some areas are dry from where fresh clear meets clear you sprayed 10 minutes ago you can correct that with a wet sand and buff/polish after the paints dry. Sometimes getting that fully wet look right out of the gum is hard, and blending that little dry spot with blending thinner isn't something for a newbie to try on a first job lol.
Good luck dude lemme know if there's anything I can do to help.
dont have one im poor
Get one, a good one is a godsend. Mine was ~€70 and is rated for 1000V, has AC/DC voltage, amperage and resistance measurement. You can also have it make noise if it sees a connection (extremely useful for testing switches/finding which wire correspond to which pin) It really is an essential part of any diagnostics kit.

You're right! I just went and got one actually.
Now does anyone have any idea on how I can best apply 12v to boot up the ECU?
Chop up some random dc power wall plug?
obvi just use the car battery and direct wire it
Yeah, or an old PC power supply. You can also use an old battery, at least with a charger on it.

computer power supply if you have a spare one laying around.
Short the green wire with any black wire in the ATX plug and it starts, yellow wires are almost guaranteed +12volt, while black wires are ground.
Test with your multimeter to be sure though.
Hey clutch and/or anyone else with knowledge.
Lately theres been some kids breaking into cars in my neighborhood and stealing shit. When i got my vic, the anti theft module had been cut out. The panic button still makes the alarm go off, but that is the only way.
Now i dot keep anything valuable in my car, so if someone wants into it, they can help themslves to my collection of fast food containers, but i like the idea of scaring the shit out of anyone who busts a window or opens it with a slim jim. Is there any reasonably inexpensive way to make this happen?
Alarm with a remote pager under your pillow, rifle by the nightstand.
Why not skip the middleman and mount a shotgun in the passenger seat with a string around the trigger?
