Your be fine. [editline]18th February 2017[/editline] (more detailed post because computer) I would trust the floor jack were you have it on the first photo. But when using a floor stand I would trust the big metal U thing going to the edge of the car. The second photo yes you can jack a car from there as is it sub frame. But dont mount your floor stand there. See the control arm mounts attached to the same thing? Put the U of the stand on that mount and your be fine. Dont jack the car up in the middle there, jacking from there can bend the metal and ruin your alignment. You're only supposed to lift and stand from hard points on the body. The first pic where you have the jack is where you are supposed to jack it up from and jack stand it from. If you want to jack and stand the car from edge, you have to make sure there is a hard point to do so from.
I really don't think he's gonna be able to bend molded 1/8 attached to molded 3/16. Maybe of he drops his car onto it.
Today I went to go look at a 1980 Corolla. For being a Michigan and Ohio car for it's life, it was amazingly solid. However mechanically it needed work. Brakes were nonexistent, there was gas in the oil, and the interior was shot. Plus it idled really rough. I think I'm gonna buy it.

If I couldn't reach the jack pad because of plastic undershell, then I used to jack up from the lower control arm. Just make sure it's not going to slide off the side, and you'll be fine. Made tire rotations/wheel swaps quicker, too, since you were compressing the suspension in that corner without needing to jack the body up as high.
Hope you're ready for a engine swap or surprise hidden rust. Especially since there's gas in the oil
Honestly an engine swap wouldn't be to farfetched from what I want to do with it eventually. I'm looking at it so I can learn stick, and then to learn wrenching on going over it piece by piece. I don't mind doing work on it. I WANT to do work on it. My dad thinks the oil/gas problem can be fixed with newer valve guides and fuel pump.
whew, that took way longer than it should have. all I did was remove the tires and I found problem after problem, not the least of which is the guide pins for 3/4 of the front tires (2 per tire) are completely stuck. And the pads that have a date of 2013 were perfect, utterly perfect. So since I don't have the experience to do much more, I put the tires back on and made sure the car was safe enough to drive across the street and Monday I'll bring it to the mechanic and hopefully he can lubricate those pins and maybe check the back ones too. I hope it doesn't cost too much. [editline]18th February 2017[/editline] Now I'm going to take a shower.

Might as well post some of the photos I took of the Corolla today. https://imgur.com/a/20ms8
I approve!

The only way to notice is uneven pad wear plus you would have had to taken off the caliper to inspect em anyways. Just take her a part, retract the piston back in, spray alot of shit in the guide pin to hopefully make her move if no spend like 5$ for new pins and lube the utter shit out of the inside of them (gotta work em) with this shit. The one that was working came out very easily and wasn't very bad. The problem really was that I did everything I could think of trying to take it off. Penetrating fluid (not wd-40), adjustable wrench, using a block of wood and hammering on it, it just would not move. I even took a flathead and pried open the boot and sprayed fluid in, I could feel that something dried up or rusted quite heavily. Oh the reason I looked there in the first place was because I heard a scraping sound (not brake squeal, just a shh shh shh sound every revolution) coming from the left front tire brakes, turns out the pins were seized and I think the rotor is slightly warped, either that or only part of the pad was touching the rotor.

Cuz honestly there's only like 10 people in this thread, lol. Why would mods come into this shithole thread :v:

You cant over smoo. You can do a ghetto check rotor true with a gauge on a machnetic mount.... if you have one... Or you can do a coat hanger........ or somthing you know... Get ghetto with it. Oriellys can also cut them true for cheap. And people have said before that brand new rotors are not even true out of the box.
keep the 3t in it and we can be engine buddies :v:
I plan to until it shits itself. It's already at 292k miles, but I want to tear it apart and rebuild it. [editline]18th February 2017[/editline] The dude who owns it uses a 3T-C in is race car and gets low 11s in the quarter mile.

If I had a week off I could just say damned the guide pins and order a new caliper entirely (ship time + a day or two just in case I need the time). But I need my car come tuesday night.

So I just paid off my 03 Maxima SE, it's been a good car but I kinda want to ditch it before it becomes a money sink. It has 177k miles, burns enough oil to need a quart in between changes, eats Cam Position Sensors and the radio is finicky. Heat and A/C work but the fans make horrible noise when it's cold, and it's cold half the year in MN. I found a super clean red 2000 Honda Prelude with 121k for $2k, has anyone here owned one? Are they as malleable as Civics? I like the 250HP V6 grunt of the maxima but I could go for better than 20-22 avg MPG.
