Most of the time, for my family at least, we buy outright.
I bought my truck outright for $500 almost two years ago now, we routinely buy $2000-5000 cars with cash.
I'm looking for a loan due to this being a rare, once in a lifetime chance. I wasn't even looking for a car.
ok let's jump to the slightly more unobvious answers
have you or your fiance ever had issues filing your taxes (ie returned taxes because someone's already filed)
and when you say "three places" do you mean freecreditreport.com or experian/equifax/transunion
New RCR has my favorite car of all time on it. 1991 Honda Civic Hatchback
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQ8nph2w6GE
I'm sure it's 90% nostalgia but this was the car I had growing up and I wanted to learn to drive in this car. I loved this car, even when I knew nothing about cars. Sure I liked most of the other cars we had, as kids who like cars a little do, but this one was always my favorite. I was very sad when the muffler fell out on the middle of the road and my parents decided to get rid of it instead of fix it.
It was also the car that lasted longest with us, 13-15 years (1991-2003?4?)
I own a 1994 Civic DX and I get giddy every time I see a gen four or five civic on the road.
please help
So I have a 97 Grand Am with the 3.1 V6 and after having some recent muffler issues, I'm thinking about just straight-piping the whole ordeal (post catalytic converter). I was wondering if someone would be able to help me figure out if that'd be an inspection issue when it rolled around again?
Live in Butler county, PA.

throw a cheap glass pack in it and it'll definitely be legal, or I can guarantee someone in your area will do an "inspection" without ever actually looking at the car.
[editline]4th October 2016[/editline]
and thats if the cops even give a shit about inspections. my area just recently got rid of vehicle inspections but I drove for 5 years with an out of date inspection sticker and not once did I get in trouble for it. I even got impounded at one point without an inspection violation

How do they sound? I miss the nice rumble my car had when the muffler was broke.
Accident
I definitely want to be dead before I lose the ability to drive, I can't imagine being told that I couldn't ever drive again.

glass packs are as loud as straight pipes but the fiberglass bleeds off the high notes so it gives it a deeper tone

It's not uncommon for people without credit history to struggle to obtain credit, at all. Your best luck is for services like PayPal Credit, Capital One, or other high-interest creditors. You use the card as little as possible and pay it off immediately to slowly build credit over time.
When I was 19, I bought the '08 Miata, and I had no credit. My loan was 24.9% APR as a result of being a high risk individual, and had to deal with it until my credit grew enough to refi down to 10%. It's going to suck for a while, but you'll make it happen.
25%... That hurt. I somehow got less than 2% through a co-signer.
man I got my loan for my first car with a 3% apr. I'd tell them to fuck right off if they said 25%
[editline]4th October 2016[/editline]
and all I had for collateral was $1000 on a $5000 loan
and I was like 17 or 18
I also live in California, not sure if that makes a difference.

I'd say no to PayPal credit, they denied me several times and it's fucked me up for trying.
Same here. I have enough credit to get legit credit cards but PayPal Credit dinged my score for even asking.

I've only filed taxes one year, had no issues. She's never filed taxes.
Experian/eqyifax/transunion.
I have no problem with high interest, however, the only place that approved me at any place wanted almost 50% down on a $12k car with 25% APR.
I'm going to try getting a loan with my mom as a cosigner. Her score is pretty decent, should help.
Take the high apr loan, pay it back as quickly as you can. Start your credit there. Somehow you've never filed taxes which is incredible for me to hear
Gotta build your credit somehow.
Like I said the secured cards are a pretty good way to go if you can do them.

With the high APR one, i would still need $5000 cash down payment.
I haven't had a legit, on paper job until this past year.
I went and talked to a loan officer about all of it; according to him, we are being denied for;
Neither of us working over 40 hours weekly (full time at our job is 30 hours weekly)
No credit history - when asked where to start, he had no answer. Just that you need credit to get credit.
I asked about having my mom or dad cosign - due to them not working over 40 hours every week, he says it wouldn't help even with their good credit.
It sounds like the only thing i might get approved for is a secured card, but it's no help at the moment.

Working 40 hours a week is a requirement?, what is this absolute bullshit?
Is a steady income not enough?
Working 40 hours a week is a requirement?, what is this absolute bullshit?

effectively the cosigner needs to be able to handle the loan falling to them
they assume if you need a cosigner you will default on payments
if you have a 40 hours a week job you're more stable

Its classy af for the 70's.
I'm astounded by the amount of people who don't know how credit works in this thread. I learned the hard way and thought I was alone in that regard, apparently it's very common?
Credit is a very very hard to understand and very unpredictable object when the person you are consulting will not disclose all the information.

On tonight's episode of [del]Roadkill[/del]Homelessness,
Homeless Trekkie buys this 1979 Explorer 2600 with a Mopar 440 that's been sitting in a field for a year for $1200, and we fix the fuel system in the field, drive it in a circle, then road trip it over 100 miles to home in order to clean it out and live in it.
Why?
Because [del]Roadkill[/del] homelessness.
Speaking of building credit, got a small loan of $3000 to buy something fun to build my credit. Got a great APR percentage, I make enough to double my payments.
Still looking at BMWs and a 1986 Ford F-150, we'all see!

Hows the interior and wiring? any mice? any leaks? does the AC work?
You gotta get a swanky 80s decal that says "Gypsy King" and plaster it on the front.

I'm told everything from the fridge to the AC to the shitter works great. Haven't tested anything. And the second battery isn't hooked up ATM so I can't test other wiring.

It came with mice, a bird, and some spiders. It's currently being bug bombed and I've got a rat/mouse trap. The floors are disgustingly filthy but all the hard surfaces are mostly just dusty and I've got the majority of it off. The floors killed my vacuum though.
Today I took some time to keep gutting the parts car. I realized there's almost a full black interior I can make work in the good car. Back seat, about 80% of the plastic parts, dashboard, etc. I ALSO snagged the rear 1/4 windows, and the frames are solid!!!! :)

This is about all that's left.. I'm probably gonna pull the column still because the parts car has tilt.. so why not?
