[QUOTE=Trekintosh;51153890][IMG]http://i.imgur.com/vO0hgHs.jpg[/IMG] On tonight's episode of [del]Roadkill[/del]Homelessness, Homeless Trekkie buys this 1979 Explorer 2600 with a Mopar 440 that's been sitting in a field for a year for $1200, and we fix the fuel system in the field, drive it in a circle, then road trip it over 100 miles to home in order to clean it out and live in it. Why? Because [del]Roadkill[/del] homelessness.[/QUOTE] Kickass. My grandparents have an RV, and they'd take us camping when we were younger. I have a shit ton of good memories with family from those times. KOAs are all across the country, but I'm not sure on prices. There are a shit load of other campgrounds to that take RVs. I've been thinking about doing some van traveling myself, after winter is done.

I plan on doing a shit load of traveling next year, and I'm still looking for a Dart, as well as a Civic/CRX to turn into a Eurobeat machine.
[QUOTE=Van-man;51152328]Working 40 hours a week is a requirement?, what is this absolute bullshit? Is a steady income not enough?[/QUOTE] That's what I thought was BS. I average 25 hours a week, most managers don't go over 35 at my work. My income is very steady, I've been at my job for close to two years. I have the finances to make double payments on a loan, just not the credit for someone to see that.

My RV failed smog. The fact that a '79 needs smogging pisses me off in the first place, but then to fail it makes me even more annoyed because I didn't even rip the emissions equipment off like I had planned. Also the vacuum transducer needs a tune-up, because it's causing a really shitty idle. Also also my throttle decelerator is what's causing my sticky throttle and leaves me stuck at 3k rpm unless I manually shove the throttle linkage on the carb forwards. Also both gas tanks failed vapor testing. I hate California.

Weld in like 2-3 cats or something, literally just daisy chain as many as you can find. Fixing the other issues though seems like it would be a really good investment in it running correctly. How badly did it fail and what did it fail?
Hey guys, tire question. The Miata could use some new all-seasons on the stock 14" Daises, but because manufacturers hate 14" sizes, the choices are pretty limited, maybe even more so than last year when I first got it. I'm kinda thinking General ALTIMAX RT43, but I think I might prefer the BFGoodrich Advantage T/A. One small potential issue with the BFGs is that the sidewall is 5mm taller than stock, putting it at 185/[B]65[/B]R14 instead of 185/60R14. I'm sure it still fits, that's not really my question, but rather how does it affect everything? Is it a non issue or will it be a seriously wonky ride? Already have summer tires in 15" btw. Won't be driving in snow either, that's why I've settled with sticking with all-seasons for the 14"s. Actually looking at the Tirerack 1-10 ratings, the Generals are higher rated. I think I kinda confused the Advtantage T/A's with the G-Force Sport Super-Comp A/S's. Still, the questions remains whether it's ok to bump up the sidewall size if need be. EDIT: Ordered Generals

Also I misspoke, it wasn't vapor testing they failed, it was the gas caps. That's not a problem, so I'm just replacing the caps. The specific part it failed was monoxide emissions at cruise speed, 2500 rpm. I got 4.2%, you're not supposed to be more than 3.0%, and you become a gross polluter at 4.5%, sou dodged a bullet. The mechanic said it was the mixture and he'd fix it for like a hundred bucks so I just told him to do it since I don't know enough to tune it by sound and scent so I'd just be randomly adjusting it then getting it inspected again and again. I didn't think to just weld cats in the line, but this should be good enough. If it doesn't pass again, then we have a problem. The throttle reducer can be disabled to stop the stickiness, so I'm going to do that. It doesn't need to do anything for it to pass smog, it just needs to be there. The transducer is the big problem. Basically it's a little can with a bunch of diaphragms that send vacuum to the EGR pump and various other emissions equipment. The biggest issue is it's super fragile and could either have completely failed or just have carbon buildup. [editline]5th October 2016[/editline] the mechanic got back to me on what failed specifically as I hit post. It was actually the EGR valve itself. It's leaking vacuum through the valve. That's a big deal, no adjustment to the fuel mixture will fix it; you fix the monoxide at cruise and it goes bad hydrocarbons at idle. Now I've got to source an EGR valve for a mopar 440. California is fuckin scum. [editline]5th October 2016[/editline] At least the valves are only 30 bucks.

My vic has one working cat left, and glasspacks, My motorcycle has souped up carbs, straightpipes and the emissions stuff ripped off, the bus is a straightpiped 460, but I suppose since the chassis is 53 it would probably be exempt, and my truck leaks diesel, and has more exhaust leaks than I can count. Emissions ruins old engines
The DSM is almost done. New pads and rotors turned, new rear wheel bearings, new fluids, new plugs + wires, and new headlights soon. The T-case was a nightmare though. Opened the fill plug and it was crusted over on the inside, poked through and felt no fluid, took the drain plug out and had to poke through to make it flow. Only a tiny bit of very old oil came out, looked like it was never checked. All I can hope for is no/little damage to the case. Ahabahahahaha the EGR valve for standard mopar 440s will no way in hell fit on this Forward Control motor. Anyone know if it's possible to repair a vacuum leak inside an EGR valve? As in its leaking vacuum into the engine? I can't find any replacement units that will fit online. If you look up a normal EGR valve, it points straight up and down, sometimes with a small offset. This one sticks out at a 155 degree or so angle, almost sideways. I can't find anything like it. I suppose I could get someone to slice off the mounting cast on the factory one, and weld it to the replacement, but I don't have that kind of cash available.
egr delete and put like 9 cats in it

I've found some NOS at a collector auto site, but it's absurdly expensive. If anyone can find this I'll give them kisses.
get them from a junkyard. they can't sell them to you, but there's no rule saying they can't give them to you for free when you buy the sections of exhaust surrounding them [editline]6th October 2016[/editline] and honestly if you're buying 9 they'll probably just assume you're doing some mad scientist shit, not putting them all on an rv

Tonight I fiddled around with the dash boards, mostly swappings some bits around so that I had all the '78 bits on the black dash out of the '81 These two circuit boards were different for the warning lights, for example. Had to swap boards between housings because of the lens differences. Probably just going to keep the old fixed column and paint the trim black.
all the ones here take them off already mining for catalyst unobtanium. [editline]6th October 2016[/editline] No new photo of clutches cat :'(
Am I the only one here that doesn't want my car louder? I honestly prefer the very little sound that it makes with the stock exhaust over the loud aftermarket ones. Granted, I have an old V6 in my jeep, and IMO there's just no way to make them sound "good", so maybe I just prefer not hearing anything because of that. With the top and doors off at night cruising down a road, its nice to just hear the wind. Very relaxing.
I never saw the point of having those ridiculously loud aftermarket exhausts. All you end up doing is waking up the entire neighborhood the second you put your foot down.
I think there's 1-3 out of like 17 vehicles on our property that would actually pass cali emission laws and its my dads 2013 ram.
