That's more screwed up that Rolls Royce lug bolts that are left hand threaded on the drivers side and right hand threaded on the passenger side.

Similar with old Mini's with the brake system.
Who was the guy who put a bar in his 7 series BMW?
"a bar" you mean 1 bottle of wiskey and cups?
If so : dbk21894 is your man.
Hey so I'm usually never in this thread because I'm a student and can't afford a car. But my brother is turning 18 soon and me and my family have decided to buy a used car for him and I've found a reasonably priced car for him on a used cars site. I've talked to the seller and we're going to meet tomorrow.
It's a Nissan Primera 2.0 16v, and I just wondered if anyone here knew any common issues with that sort of model. The seller have said there are some scratches in the paint job but stated that the everything mechanical is great, and he also seems to be a respectable guy so I'm not really worried. But yeah if any of you who know more than me have any advice for buying a used car I'm all ears.
If it's a a P10 or P11, then the only serious problem with them is the typical Japanese rust spots, and that the 2liter engine might be a little bit keen on drinking oil.
But as long as the exhaust smoke isn't blue (indication of excessive engine oil burning) or the bottom & suspension towers ain't rusted out, then they're fairly bulletproof.
Although P10 and P11 Primera's with the 2liter engine has sorta of a 'boy racer' reputation in Europe, so might wanna get a quote from insurance on how much that'll cost.
Test drive the shit out of it, if theres anything mechanical wrong with like engine or trans problems they'll 50/50 show up while giving it the gusto.
I don't know about where you live, but alot of used car salesmen around here like to fix it just enough to get it sold, wipe codes with out fixing them and then charge like crazy when the customer has to come back to get it fixed which that really depends on the warranty the buyer gets.

Thanks, this guy isn't a professional car salesman though, he said he works with wind turbines and I'll of course test drive it.
I've looked at car insurance online (that's how it works in Sweden).
Where would the typical rusts spots be? We don't really have that much rust in cars as far up north I am because they don't use salt to make the roads not slippery here, they use small gravel and sand. The picture looks like a P10 so I'll definitely check the oil, exhaust smoke and inspect for rust everywhere.

Basically the bottom as a whole (especially the panels just under the doors), around top of suspension towers/strut towers and around rear wheel arches.
But if it's rarely seen any road salt and also has been undercoated at-least a few times, then rust isn't the biggest problem to expect.
for as much shit as i give my taurus, it being a 20 year old car does have some benefits
got backed into yesterday by an old guy in a prius in the parking lot, we looked at my bumper, paint scratched a bit but that's it, looked at his bumper "oh that bump was already there", shook hands and went on our ways

are there people who don't have a bottle of whiskey in their vehicle?

Also I don't know if you can call that engineering, Mercedes at the time was putting fuel tanks above the rear axle so people wouldn't die when rear ended.
The funny thing is that for every "oh god why would you do that" choice on this car, there's two or three brilliantly designed things that you can really appreciate

like the rear suspension and FDU design is really cool. Like the Lotus 49 and its siblings, the upper control arms for the hubs are the driveshafts themselves. Add in the inboard brakes and you've just hacked off a huge amount of unsprung weight. And yeah it's pretty weird to have this sort of setup on this big ridiculous luxury car, sure. But it's like that because the XJ is identical to an E type underneath, which is basically a road going D type. And this setup was being sold in the MKX before Ford had released the first falcon.
Jaguars are weird

Not too keen on that swing axle. Inboard brakes went out of vogue because they aren't easy to get lots of cold air to. It is cool though, like how a glass of Earl Grey isn't. It fits the character of the car nicely.

it's plenty easy to get cold air to those brakes. it's called ducting. air under a car is cold as hell

Leyland managed it when they went racing with the XJC and the XJS, the XJC got pole position and held it until the oil sump went dry around corners and blew up the engine at literally every race it went to
I get minor rotor warp from the front under heavy use but not the rear, so it can't be that poorly ventilated. I'd say the real reason inboards went away is maintenance. Getting the rotors or even just new pads in there is a bitch. You just need a lift to do routine work on the rear brakes, you can't do it otherwise
That feel when I misread 31 in-lbs as 31 ft-lbs :\

[del]DP's[/del] My Mercedes all cleaned up, repaired the passenger headlight bezel so it'd go on. Doesn't even look like the same car :~)
Need to unbend the trim that's not on the car and fix the rear bumper.
confusing ass engineers.
Yeah. Broke a bolt and stripped a few threads before I realized my mistake. Oh well :v:

maintenance and packaging. inboard brakes take up a whole hell of a lot of valuable space. that could very easily be used for cargo space. also important is that the axles will act as a torsion bar, which would be detrimental to braking performance
My god, this SUS is amazing. Rated for 30 more HP than my OBS, but feels more like 50.
It does feel less sporty, more offroady, though well worth the tradeoffs.
Got 22MPG on the first tank of gas, before changing any of the fluids. (They look fairly fresh, i'm changing them anyways)
I've got this big light on my RV's dash that just says BRAKE and lights up red sometimes. Not a standard DOT signal, it's too old for that. I can't tell if it's supposed to indicate if my parking brake is on(it isn't), or if my brake lights are on (they don't work), or if my brake fluid is low (STILL CANT FIND THE RESIVOIR ARRRGH). The light seems completely intermittent. Sometimes it comes on when I'm pumping the brakes, sometimes it comes on when I start the RV and stays on until I turn it off. Sometimes it comes on while driving, stays on for a bit, then goes away. No idea what to do about it.

I'm guessing it's too old to have ABS, but I'd wager it's either a bad parking brake sensor, or your fluid is low. The fact you can't find the reservoir (? google) would lead me to believe it's your fluid.
Had a busy weekend, barely had any time to work on the car. I picked at it a bit, got the pedals in, etc.
Today I built some little brackets for some new 4x6s in the dash.

Then it was time to wash and wax the NSX for winter. The paint is really garbage right now, it needs claybar, polish, and wax in the worst way. But that's for next spring. All it's getting this year is a final drive to the winter getaway.
