It's amazing just how much in a car can fail due to one teeny tiny plastic piece fatiguing.
So the coolant tank in the jetta decided to snap off the little nipple for the recovery hose... I learned this after the hose came off and sprayed shit EVERYWHERE while driving. Replaced the fucker with a tank from the same model, but different engine. The only difference was the sensor plug was on the other side of the tank. So... subtract $20 from the cost of the tank, and spend 20 minutes soldering extension wires for the sensor. Bam, new tank for half the cost.
Don't you just LOVE plastic coolant nipples?
Hey all, quick question about importing cars older than 25 years into the USA. Moving over in the next few months or so and wanting to import something uniquely Australian into the country because why the hell not. Car is more than likely going to be a VL Turbo Commodore. Sadly I can't find a great deal of information about importing cars from Australia, only really from Japan. In regards to importing, I understand there are no restrictions once a car is 25 years old (except for Cali and the EPA). What I need to know is how do I go about the customs forms, are they easy to fill out or near impossible? Chances are it will be shipped to LA and either put on a truck or driven upto Oregon where I will be living, would it have to be inspected for emissions as it'd going into California? Anything else I need to know?
It must be stock with all of it's original market emissions equipment, it can't have swaps or anything like that to pass EPA exemptions. You don't need to worry about cali emissions or anything like that because you're not registering it there nor driving it on their roads as it absolutely must be trailed from the port. After that you're home free and titled in your state you can do whatever you want to it. International Vehicle Importers has a Seattle location which is far closer than Socal, there's also a good few importers who deal out of Portland and Seattle but I haven't heard anything that makes the Oregon based ones any reputable. Going through a registered importer would be the easy way but you are able to do it yourself at your own risk of course which should be well documented somewhere. Although being that it's not from Canada, Japan or the EU the paperwork needed may change or require something special but I doubt it. If you're in the Portland/Medford areas it might get a little complicated with DEQ. Luckily you can do what everyone else does after you pass and just buy plates and swap them onto your car instead of renewing your registration and having to pass DEQ again. Although if it's in good shape there's no reason it shouldn't pass DEQ as if it doesn't pass the pre-OBD2 sniffer test you probably need to fix it anyways. Reading the DEQ page, it might even be possible it would be exempt.

And then the next day after doing that my step-brother in-law said he had one that was in good condition, except it was ugly because of old coolant grime stuck on the inside. He used to be a perfectionist with his Golf 2
Cast aluminium isn't that great either. I tried to take my bleeder out of my coolant outlet housing, to you know like bleed it "properly". Instead the bleeder came out with half of it's housing. Somehow it's magically held for the past 3 years.

Also that bitch looks like an imperial torture droid when its all taken apart. [t]http://i.imgur.com/41OzMCK.png[/t] But check out my ghetto rig to keep the hose attached for 5 miles to get home.
Well, there's no car I would ever own that could spool that beast. I mean, a Viper might be able to start the damn thing, but that came off of a 19L engine...
you could get it spooled good if you build a high revving caddy 500 [editline]17th October 2016[/editline]
Hey all, quick question about importing cars older than 25 years into the USA. Well i finished re plumbing the fuel system in the jag today Just in time for summer?
that door tone is really annoying
I've never found it annoying. I think it's the tinny mic on the phone that made it sound bad
Parking is a confusing mess at some of my Boulder and downtown work sites, I should get a motorcycle.
Woa Animosus I remember talking to you for a little bit a few years back and you seemed desperate to leave Perth, glad to see you finally got your wish haha
I got a question regarding car audio; Are there devices of some sort I can put on a power supply and my car sound system (like axu input or Bluetooth)? I like my current radio but its as old as the car, so no its just a radio with different channels
Xanadu posted the perfect parts for you! That's the route to go. Another option if you wanted JUST bluetooth would be this specific BT FM modulator input; http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-iSIMPLE-ISFM23-UNIVERSAL-TRANZIT-BLUETOOTH-TRANSMITTER-BLU-AUDIO-INTERFACE-/391495084600?hash=item5b26ecea38:g:G5cAAOSwzJ5Xcu25 That's all one piece, instead of 2.
Well, the fuel pump finally went on the MR2. 25 miles from home, two towns away. I had to push it into a parking spot. The reason I was in that town is because I was at the doctor, and I have mono. I don't care how light the MR2 is, pushing 2,200lbs when you have mono is disgustingly difficult. And the cherry on the top was the tow company wouldn't tow it with a regular truck, they had to get a flatbed. So it cost me $140 to tow it back to my hometown to my mechanic. Yay.

Thanks for the people that gave information on importing the car, cleared up a lot for me so hopefully it shouldn't be too difficult.

They towed my boyfriend's car nearly 100 miles when it broke down, even though it was on my account, and it's almost always a flatbed truck.
I'll hold my remarks about AAA
my car is pulling to the right all of a sudden. i think it happened when i dropped off the curb on my way out of my drive way. its like when the wheels turn the steering wheel bumps to the right and if i dont hold the steering wheel it has a heavy drift to the right.
well my tyre burst on the motorway on the way home from work, put the spare tyre and its driving normal again.
Nailed it! At least now you can enjoy your barbie and slab.
Car is more than likely going to be a VL Turbo Commodore.
Aw dude I fantasize about driving a VL Calais turbo across America. What you're doing is pretty hectic and I'm happy for ya, uleh If you want and if keeping it stock law-wise isn't an issue then I'd recommend taking an RB25 head and all the parts needed to do a 25/30 build with you.
Something went crunch up front and now the DD doesn't steer right. RIP

(Also we should hang out sometime) Well, firstly I gotta find one to import and get it imported first, still probably a year away but it's worth getting info now to know what to save for.

If there's anything happening before the paul walker cruise hmu! weekends for me can be pretty busy now but I can schedule things sorta good with some notice. The next best totally Australian thing for cheap would be a VS Maloo although they're a few years away from the 25yr exemption. Could do a VG ute with a HSV body kit. :vs:
In other, more happy news: I picked up my grandpa's old Gran Fury from my dad on Saturday. [t]http://i.imgur.com/cGduXok.jpg[/t] Blues Brothers af

Also Ive decided to mod my 2015 GTI. Gonna take it up to AWE to get a custom exhaust and then order an intake from VWR. Gonna wait until warranty is completely over to get an ECU tune [editline]18th October 2016[/editline]
Ye, wintermobile But my neon friend has a blazer he wants to sell for 1800 that I'm thinking about.
STOP
