My parents are pushing me to buy a car to help build my credit, even though my current car is just fine. I guess I'm looking at used Chargers. Anything to look out for? I don't want a V6. If I'm replacing my perfectly working Eclipse, I'm getting something with some guts.
How the fuck does credit work in the US? In Australia I believe instead of "credit" they basically check if you have outstanding debts, unpaid bills etc if you want a loan or something like that (Also how much you earn and how much you currently have if its something big like a home loan)
5 inches over the legal bumper height, got em
Fuck... you're good. But you're a week too quick! That'll be on the 23rd I get the goodies in haha Heres a teaser pic: [thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/image_zpsxkzc7toh.jpeg[/thumb] and this aint even the cool shit I never grabbed any pics from today for what I teased, but in the morning I'll reveal 'er!
Dont get a police resale one.
Mine was a police resale. :( [t]http://i.imgur.com/bruyTs2.jpg[/t] It had 9000 hours on the clock and still was quick as hell. Was a really smooth ride and I'm really starting to miss it. You can get police take home car for slightly more than the pursuit vehicles. Ones that were just driven to and from the station. So they don't have a fuck ton of idle hours and weren't beat on (if they were, it's no where near a pursuit). Plus the Pursuit spec ones have: Larger front and rear sway bars Larger brakes Larger wheels (18 vs 17) Z Rated tires Heavy duty AC Heavy duty cooling 3.06 Rear vs the 2.76 (? I forget what a stock RT is) Daytona exhaust No speed limiter 100% TRACTION CONTROL OFF (Normal RTs only let you turn off ABS, Wicked burnouts yo) Night mode lighting (Turns off literally every light down to about 1%) It's basically Dodge Charger Daytona with no special interior or fancy paint. I bought mine back in 2013 for $8K. Had 80,000 miles on it. So at the time, the car was only 6 years old. The only major thing that needs to be done is right around 100K miles you'll need to rebuild the front suspension. Wheel bearings, inner and outer tie rods, and bushings.
I made it clear I was getting Mopar. I really want a Charger but they're pushing me for this 2012 300 they found. If I sit and argue with them about it they'll get pissy so at least they didn't set their hearts on some import. It's a nice looking car, but I think I'd still prefer a Charger. At least I can fit all my guns into it.

You actually have better credit if you pay your minimums instead of paying it off. Your credit score nowadays is more on how much they can make off you than how responsibly you pay stuff off.
Still pay my shit off in full, don't want debt hanging around waiting to get me.
For sure, it's just a shit system that's been bastardized to the point that no one wins but the creditors.
It works terribly. You actually have better credit if you pay your minimums instead of paying it off.
If you don't have a credit card already that would be a good way to start building credit. I went from no credit score at all to low 700's in around a year that way.
I tried that one - the only card you can get with no credit is a secured credit card. Basically, it's like a debit card that you earn credit from. Put $200 on it, you can charge $200. Pay off that $200, you can charge $200 again, etc.

I have a little experience with them, and if it's a possible option I'll say my piece, since lerlth will certainly know more about the chargers than I do. Parents have a '12 300C. It's a well-dressed, comfy monster. Uncle has an equivalent year R/T Charger (and Challenger. We like Mopar, a lot :v:) I've spent quite a bit of time in my parents 300C, driving and riding. Once I drove my uncles Charger, the first thing I told my dad is that it feels like the exact same car. Realistically, without diving into the actual numbers, the only difference is that the charger felt a little stiffer/sportier/etc when I was really throwing it around, which I expected. Personally, I think the new 300s are sharp as hell. I loved the look of the old-new chargers for a while and still do as far as really clean ones go, but (and kind of the same thing happened with the mid 2000s style 300s) once the new ones came out it really slammed me in the face how dated they manage to look, double so considering they've been dogged to hell and back, it seems. I'd imagine the options you find them with are more or less the same, but I think the interior of the 300s are much nicer. However, if you find a clean '08 or so R/T magnum, throw all of this out and get that. :weeb:
It's the V6. I want a V8 after years with the 4cyl in my current car but all V8 mopar is outside of my pricerange and there's no way I'm getting a V6 Charger. I'm still trying to get out of having to buy it at all though since I really can't afford it. :v:

If you have to though... any interest in avengets/200s?
None at all really. If I'm buying a new car it needs to be an upgrade from what I've got, and every moving part of my Eclipse has been rebuilt within the past couple years so she's good to go for a while. The 200s and Avengers aren't different enough from the Eclipse for it to be worth having to pay a note on to me. Plus I'd feel bad trading it in on something else since they'd scrap it right away.

I would have done the same with my rav4, but I wanted something a little better for long trips. Getting a car helps credit for sure, but if your current vehicle is good to go, I'd just go for telling my parents that I'm getting a credit card or two instead. Dunno though. For the sake of conversation, what's the price range you're looking for?
My upper limit is around 12k and I'm still not sure if I can swing full coverage insurance yet. I'm already cutting it pretty close and I like having a bit of spending money every month to keep me sane.

Maybe a magnum, If you like wagons. They're usually a little cheaper than chargers, iirc? Finding a quality r/t is difficult, though. You looking at cars exclusively? There's good jeeps/dakotas and etc. Out there for around that price. Probably a little better on insurance, if that's a concern.
Yeah I'd consider a Magnum if I could find a clean one. Thing is though it's gotta come from a dealer so I can finance it and I've only found one Magnum around here with a dealer and it was trashed.
If your parents want you to get a loan for a 12k why not just pull one out for an H&K MG?
If I took out a loan that big for a gun I'd probably get an Anzio 20mm or some rare antique
Yea actually buy the anzio, use it to hunt drug boats and then sell the cocaine that washes up to buy uh whatever you want, more or less!
Grenadiac, you can find a Magnum R/T for around $6-10K. Magnums are kind of all over the place in price. A V8 Charger pre-2012 is around $8K right now, and even some down to $6K, but they typically have high mileage. A 2013 V6 Charger is like $12K right now, so good luck finding a V8 unless it's a pursuit. I'd suggest a Magnum. It's old enough to have a large aftermarket, very comfy and lots of space, semi-cheap parts, and insurance isn't too bad. So is this what you're looking for? >2012 or newer HEMI Charger/300 ? edit: Lol. 200K miles. http://kansascity.craigslist.org/cto/5863673517.html Pretty okay deal: http://kansascity.craigslist.org/cto/5864788540.html http://kansascity.craigslist.org/cto/5841487620.html You're going to have a hard time finding a pre-2012 with less than 90K miles. (Unless it's pursuit, lol) The LX platform is a good drivers platform. I put 40,000 miles on my Charger in less than 3 years.
The Anzio was a joke I don't need that :v: Yeah I can find Magnums around here from private sellers but they want me to buy through a dealer and shit and I just can't find any V8s at dealers locally, at least none of the ones with websites. I'm gonna start trawling the smaller used car dealerships around here and see what I can come up with. I really don't wanna do this at all but I also don't want to piss off my parents so idk
Dealers suck balls.
the woman at the counter at autozone today was fucking nuts. she was either 70 or completely methed out adn she kept hitting on me and thought today was monday. she also kept laughing at her own jokes and when I said "oh damn" about the A/C belt for my truck being $22 she got all defensive like it was her own product

It's not something you should take on payments for to appease someone else.
Seriously. There are easier ways to build credit. In other news, I stumbled across an AMC Eagle, and goddamn in forgot how hard that car makes me.
Oof. Give me the Isuzu. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1999-Isuzu-VehiCROSS-4WD-/232122122604?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368 "Needs Mechanical repairs." Salvage title. Fuuug. I still want this very badly. I absolutely NEED one of these things. It's a shame I'll probably never get my hands on one. I saw a yellow one at a Chevy dealer up on what looked like steelies in the Outer Banks last time I was down. Honestly, it's a good thing we didn't stop to look at it or I would have been driving it home, more than likely. :v:
Ur weird

The key trick completely overrides ABS and both electronic aides. I think the stock R/T diff was 2.82 I believe. I personally think the 3.92 in mine works great, but I have lower torque. Probably my biggest complaint with Daimler era Chargers are the worthless suspensions they have. They feel nice and are good and soft, but they break constantly. But, if you are interested in the AWD version in either engine, I can say they are really really good for snow. Talked to a NC state trooper Friday who just got issued his 2016 AWD Pursuit last week, and he's excited for the winter. Apparently a lot of states are pushing to replace all RTs with AWD Pursuits as soon as they can.

Says a lot of their chargers are being swapped out here as well. We've had a fair few shitty winters, apparently cops here are very inept at handling their vehicles on the road, tons of repairs attributed to officers running off the road, hitting things, etc. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a cost saving measure, here. :v:
