clutch2 [editline]19th November 2016[/editline]
Does this look like a good buy? Anyone here good with leather repair? My rear seat somehow got a small cut in it, bugging the heck out of me. 1/8" wide, 1/2" long. Have heard that some places fill with DAP silicone, then dye over it? What about softening my leather? The tops are hard and dry, i applied leather cleaner and conditioner, doesn't seem as bad, but not how it should be.
Hey Slayer and/or other audio guys, what's the best CarPlay head unit with physical knobs and ff/rw/play/pause buttons, front USB port, and CD player? Preferably under $500 by a considerable margin. I already have a Bluetooth Alpine head unit but it sucks balls and hates my iPhone, but it does mean I don't have to run a new microphone across.
Doesn't exist, unfortunately. The only Carplay decks with knobs right now are the Kenwoods, and I can't think of any that have USB on the front http://www.crutchfield.com/g_300/All-Car-Stereos.html?tp=5684&pg=1#&nvpair=AG_iPod/iPhone Control|FFCarPlay I would go with the Kenwood, personally. Pair it up with a flush USB mount; As long as you don't get a Pioneer they will all have 3.5mm jack for the microphone, so you won't have to change that it you don't want. One thing you may like, for price, the JVCs are a little cheaper, and have a feature where you spin your finger in a circle on the screen and that does volume up/down. So it's kinda like having a knob! Also, is your headunit currently a single DIN or the big DDIN Alpine? If it's the DDIN you'll be good for fitment, if it's just the single I've seen some issues with DDINs in Crown Vics with an HVAC vent in the way that needs to be squished out of the way with a heat gun. Supposedly Jensen is coming out with a Carplay deck... but that thing would be a piece of garbage, so skip it. lol.
i'm so sad that it will take my whole life to be able to afford a luxury car, seeing a lot of 2015 mustangs in my area.
Almost like my truck better without a bumper. Not like one would do me any good, half the shit I'd hit would go under [thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/image_zps1cbels9a.jpeg[/thumb] Got some smokin' nice black fenders, POR-15'd the inside, putting a silver wrap on them tomorrow and hopefully getting the body all matching [thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/image_zpsj3gntw9l.jpeg[/thumb] This truck doesn't stay on the road for too long. Or complete for that matter [thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/image_zpscmiuzy95.jpeg[/thumb]

I can just replace the cigarette lighter underneath my cupholders since I never use it with the USB port I suppose. I could accept the JVC compromise if and only if t has hardware buttons for skipping forwards and back. I can live without any other physical buttons or knobs if I can skip forwards and back(and ideally play/pause) without looking. Capacitive buttons aren't good enough. I was looking at the Kenwoods on that list and it looks like they might do it? I can't tell if the buttons are physical or capacitive. I could also live with a non-cd receiver if it has a physical volume knob and buttons. If my current one unit was installed by a professional how hard would it be to replace it with the CarPlay deck? I don't know if the harness is soldered in or just spliced or what, what would I be expecting to run into? [editline]18th November 2016[/editline] This Sony fits the bill pretty well: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_158XAV100/Sony-XAV-AX100.html?tp=5684&awkw=265923137692&awat=pla&awnw=g&awcr=147314861724&awdv=m They even have a paragraph dedicated to how it's designed to prevent distracted driving with actual physical buttons. I like that.
i'm so sad that it will take my whole life to be able to afford a luxury car, seeing a lot of 2015 mustangs in my area.
I don't know your opinion on it but you could probably afford a used luxury/sportyish vehicle. Heaps of '06 and onward Holden Caprices have depreciated enough whilst still looking relatively modern. http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/Holden-Caprice-2007/OAG-AD-13742042/?Cr=52 I personally think the earlier Holden leather trims are better, despite looking pretty outdated. The offerings from the aussie ford line are also good... along with being better and a shitload more reliable. http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Ford-Falcon-2008/SSE-AD-4190078/?Cr=0 G6E turbos' are fucking fast too. Really enjoyable when the turbo kicks in
I'm looking for new front shock absorbers for my BMW 520, and I'm having tough luck finding replacements. I need some that fit my '73 BMW but all the ones I find are '76 and up. So those don't fit.. ( tried some out and it just didnt fit ) I have the original right here, short vid because not everything fitted in the frame :v: [vid]https://my.mixtape.moe/rlrbmh.mp4[/vid] Edit: I think I found some, all the numbers that need to match match
Quick clip from my dash cam tonight. Ignore the date/time, I installed the camera a couple weeks ago and haven't bothered to set it yet. [editline]17th November 2016[/editline] Goddamn and there's already a copyright claim against the music on the radio!
It frightens me that you're driving that fast in snow with all seasons. We haven't had proper snow here yet, but with temps dipping below 5C I get scared of driving with my 3 summers and 1 winter tyre. Hopefully I'll be fine 'till tuesday. Oh, and I got my inner driveshaft boot, but now I've got a loud knock from my driver side whenever I start driving or shift it harshly. Hoping it's a CV joint and that it's also the source of the same noise during braking.
I fucked up guys. I told a friend I would inspect and find out why his rear diff was making noise. He bought all the shit to do a fluid change. His was stupidly low on fluid and we re sealed the cover and injected it with the magical sauce. We then drive it around the block to see if it leaked sure enough it did but weirdly not from the gasket.... the front pinion seal. FFS. After literally me spending 5 hrs on trying to get a 1 1/2" but off I finally examed the seal, bearing and all that shit. Lets just say I noped the fuck out real quick and re assembled like I was never there. The bearing, race and everything is TRASHED. I can literally move the yoke about 1/8" in all directions. I told him to pray and come with me to the junk yard one day for a new rear end and to keep 12$ quart fluid in her untill we find a replacment.
Thats why I never offer more than basic car advice to friends. Liability man, liability. If it starts to look more serious than changing a spark plug, I tell them to go to a shop because its quickly leaving my comfort zone and something is going to go wrong that I can't fix.
So after a day's work I'm left with a bare chassis (exclusing the engine as I have to wait for a crane to get here) Now I gotta remove all that black shit again, which is a nightmare. Next up I'm still undecided about stitch-welding the chassis. +Chassis gets way stiffer, with is good for al the weight I'll be removing +Insides will be nicer as all the seams wont have a thick layer of glue-stuff over them +I'll have to remove the entire undercoating to stitch-weld. Which means I'll save another 10KG. -Removing undercoating IS A BITCH. (About 20 or so hours to get it all off) -I'll have to get a car spit -Car spit (aka rottiserie) is expensive. What do :v:
build a car spit.
build a car spit.
I can buy a ready to go spit for 350 euro's, cheapest new ones are 500. So I'll be able to sell it again for 300 euro's for sure when I'm done. So that seems like a good option, considering the materials alone would be more then 100 euro. I'm just not sure if I wanna commit to such a massive task. On the other hand, when it's completely bare. I can just paint the entire thing white without having to worry about masking etc.

Finally installed my bar end mirrors I had laying around for months, and a neat little analog clock on my XV750. I had bar end mirrors on my Ninja and really liked them, but hated that they were fixed and could snap if I hit a mirror while splitting lanes; these ones fold so I can tuck them if I need to make a tight squeeze somewhere. Also did a valve adjustment and oil change, and installed a working starter relay so I can use the ignition again (took THREE RELAYS, I swear I have bad luck with these things). Man, is it nice using a fucking button to start the bike again lol. Now it's time to install new turn signals and I'm just about done with this bike! [t]http://imgur.com/tvSoOqJ.jpg[/t]
Apparently my registration was expired. Cop ran my plates, said I didn't do anything wrong just had expired reg, $54 later my car still isn't registered.

I've had 2-3 sets of snows, everything from very expensive unstudded, to cheap studded. A good set of all seasons did better all around, especially high speeds in snow. The only advantage to snow tires are studs, which are illegal in most US states. The best all season I have had to date is the Xtra-Trac II. Even the studded snows didn't handle snow and ice as good as those do.

I'm picking up a 4x4 truck tomorrow, though, so I don't have to worry about this.
Still no turbo, but I got this. [T]http://i66.tinypic.com/2n3n86.jpg[/t] [T]http://i66.tinypic.com/2nrk75e.jpg[/t] Still haven't given up on the turbo for the civic. It's just been sitting there for now though.

Could actually get up hills and shit. Wouldn't fishtail as bad on the highways either. Really surprised to hear you found all seasons that did well in the snow. Everything always seems to point towards dedicated snow tires doing better.
Started today fighting this bullshit [thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/image_zpscgkblfau.jpeg[/thumb] After that was cleaned up we moved on to wrapping it [thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/image_zpsnjclt6rd.jpeg[/thumb] Bit of a bitch to figure out but otherwise it went pretty smoothly with my dad. Helps that the fenders are smokin' nice so there isnt any bodywork to do [thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/image_zpsboefljhq.jpeg[/thumb] [thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/image_zpsmjqczd1f.jpeg[/thumb] All goes well I should have everything but the box done tomorrow since I ran out of material (need a little more than 8' and I only have 7' 6")
You gotta tell me how well that shit can handle tree branches and stuff. As that would be a better idea instead of some hardcore enamel or somthing.

Truck will be offroad and rock climbing a little, no bushes where it'll get scratched up, shit drives me ballistic I'm hoping that with the POR-15 under it that I'll never have to worry about rust again
You might want to paint over the POR-15 as well, I've heard it's extremely UV sensitive and fades/discolors to sunlight. Maybe a cheap clearcoat or something could possibly work and be a little interesting.

I don't need to worry about winter tires because it doesn't snow here [editline]20th November 2016[/editline] in the off chance we do have snow I just air way down to try and get a little heat in the tires and a bit more contact patch. not about to spend $800 on tires so that I can use them for 6 hours before putting them up and finding that theyre all cracked when I try to use them again in 8 or 10 years
This shitbox has been on Craigslist for forever. https://cleveland.craigslist.org/cto/5881547594.html I think I might call him up later today and offer him ~200 dollars. Would make for a good winter project. I don't even think the car runs.
