I've got ivory soap in it so i can fix fuel leaks but thats about it :v:
I generally keep a firearm, a pair of channel locks, a phillips head, two knives, duct tape, a roll of electrical tape, and a bag of salt (in the winter) in my car. Basically the essentials to jury-rig a small problem and melt some snow away in the winter just in case.
Also, an extra jacket and a pair of gloves because I'm a little bitch, and hate being cold. But that's mostly because I'm a plumber and nothing sucks worse than getting drenched when it's cold.
a gun and tools is kind of a given tbh.
[editline]23rd November 2016[/editline]
I also keep 12 quarts of oil 3 quarts of transmission fluid a quart of brake fluid and all the gear oil I can get my hands on

Can't bring a gun across state lines into New York because liberals.
I have no use for all those fluids. It's a brand new car. If there's a problem with it Chevrolet is going to fly me home.
You'd be surprised how many people look at me like I'm nuts for keeping a rifle and a tool pouch in my trunk.

bring some miscellaneous plumbing parts then
I'm bad with electronics, I changed the interior lights on my shitroen to LED's. They only work with open door position OR manual on position
(as in the polarity switches with the 2) anyone have good idea to make them work in both positions?

My family has been driving our heavily used family vehicles to utah and back (2000 mile round trip) 3-6 times a year for the last 20 years or so, and around half of those trips have been in the winter. Honestly, if you know the car enough to trust it, thats all you really need. long mileage road trips arent hard on cars at all. Theyre basically just running at cruising speed for 30 hours, and thats sure as hell easier on all the parts of a car than 30 hours of city driving, and in some cases (old diesels), easier on things than 30 hours of idling. Obviously bring the common sense basic tools, and if theres a small piece thats known to break on your car, pack a spare, but apart from that (and a spare tire, you nugget), thats all youll need, car-wise. Bring snackies and get some free trial audiobooks off audible to keep you entertained.
In all the years of family roadtrips, we lost pieces of the exhaust off my dad's 2003 F150 2 or 3 times, killed a coil pack twice (F150s eat them for breakfast), killed an alternator once, and flooded my moms shitty old taurus in sub-zero michigan weather so bad it didnt start for half a day. With a newer car, chances are astronomically slim that youll run into a single problem.
EDIT:
Hell, I drove my truck back from utah on backroads and I-80 last january in blistering cold, the day after coming out of storage for 4 years with a bad batch of diesel, leaky injection lines, a tank transfer switch that didnt work, unresponsive fuel gauges, no registration or insurance, and one headlight. youll be fine.
Chevy dealership tried to tell me it was a $500 option to get a spare. I don't even know what my lug spacing is to try and find a spare at a junk yard.

The worst spare I've ever seen has been with this POS God damn. Then again citroen electrics are what they are. God I hate my car. Maybe I'll spend my next year sober for the sole purpose of not getting fucked by french idiots

unfortunately it's a 5x105mm iirc
ie absolutely nothing at the junkyard will fit. it shares that size with like a dozen cars
[editline]23rd November 2016[/editline]
and looking online every aftermarket wheel in that size is very offensive

Locked in a case and not within arms reach of the driver or any passengers and it should be fine. That's pretty much all the SAFE act covers for transportation.

You always need a gun.
On older Hondas you can just cut the ALTC wire from the ECU and it gets rid of the CAFE/EPA MPG boosting garbage that causes crazy voltage fluctuations.
I remember reading about that here some time back, I think in the last iteration of AAL.
I thought about doing that to my own (95 Accord V6) but being it's the oem alt, I don't want to risk stressing it. Being I have a yellow top optima at I think 850 CA and a 5 farad cap for my amp, might be good to not do so till really needed. 80 amp alt and all.

I can't imagine it being much worse. If it constantly kept cutting voltage and never fully charging the system after the surface charge or whatever it's called wears down or off. I would think it would constantly struggle at lower voltages to charge a larger system rather than just being able to wind up and do it's job. The OEM alternators are tanks anyways, they generally last a solid 200k+ and then if you pop in a Denso reman it'll probably see just as much if not more.
Your ALTC is probably rigged to come on with the EGR to push highway cruising MPGs as far as possible. Unless you're seeing the results of voltage fluctuation which you probably shouldn't with a decent battery, I wouldn't bother otherwise. My Integra had a shot to shit 6 year old nEverstart that never tested above 12v with the car off. Luckily though, never once in it's life did it ever not start so it wasn't that bad I guess.
After getting an OEM Honda battery I don't see my lights change brightness anymore which used to happen at one point in RPM about 1/3rd the time even with a new Alt and the ALTC cut. Which was improved from the fucking multi step spaz where it would go from dim at idle, to bright at 1500-2500 to dim at 2500-3200 to bright at 3400+. Not to mention the brake switch, throttle position and A/C clutch also being considered in the circuit along with RPM, Load, MAP and other parameters causing my cluster lights to dim and brighten at random times.
It's only present on USDM models anyways so it probably wasn't implemented as nicely as it has been on newer models where it's present globally and there's much more to the system than what is probably just about turning the alternator off. :v:

The 2016 Cruze is 5x105, which is shit tier bolt pattern indeed. Thanks GM cucks, for making another abortion unto the automotive world with an unnecessarily strange bolt pattern just so people can't replace your god tier OEM alloys with something of their choosing.
In other news.
Winter is here :( And my Buick is still sitting in the driveway, double :(
The place where it's supposed to go for storage shoulddd have room tomorrow, so hopefully that happens.

The brake lines and fuel lines are all ran, and the brake lines are flared and connected. Now we just pray all the flares were good, because the fittings I used were a wee bit shorter than the original ones.. but I think everything bottomed out properly and well if they're no good, so be it I'll redo the 18 flares (sigh, lol).

And and work last night I had like 3 hours to kill between the end of my shift and an employee's going away get together in town, and I didn't want to drive an hour round trip home and back, so instead I ran to Lowe's, got some good spray paint and sand paper, and got busy with the parts for the interior that I only had in tan and needed to be black for the interior swap. Here's what I came up with.

And now it's time to start the engine/ trans project I've decided. Going to clean up the trans and spray it with some aluminum colored engine paint, then tear down the engine to paint and regasket it! And slide in a cam, that kind of thing.

I started using a little wire cup on the trans with my cordless drill, and the battery died in like.. a minute. At that point it was like 1 am so I decided it was time to call it a night.

I also snapped one of the 4 bolts off on the trans for the trans mount... not sure if I'm going to fish it out of there or not, but that's something for future me to deal with.

What do you guys think? Looking for a winter beater/city cruiser/parts grabber considering my truck is huge. Its actually worse than the pics make it out to be, box is finished so I was thinking flat deck and the doors and front clip switch with an XJ.
4x4 4.0L 5 speed, pretty proven driveline so im not worried about anything breaking.

[thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/image_zpscz3pntui.jpeg[/thumb]
Rolled the truck outside today too, thought I'd make a halfway transformation tuesday! Decided to con it as "LICH"
As per wikipedia roughly:
"Liches are depicted as being clearly cadaverous, bodies desiccated or completely skeletal."
Which I thought kinda fit with the truck being its a conglomeration of parts and has otherwise been pretty abused in its life.
Idk haha it just works to me
