Make sure to get the cast aluminum color, the aluminum color is like a really bright silver/grey. It's that really cheap color that people use on engines and it just comes out looking too perfect, uniform and bright to be anything like an aluminum block. I think the cast color is even pretty bright, it's definitely brighter than any cast aluminum intake mani.
This is what I ended up with. Me and a buddy had a cocktail and went wild with a couple drills and wire brushes and some brake cleaner.

I really like how it ended up, I like the bright color.
This little one didn't help at all, but she was a good mascot.

Earlier in the day I helped a buddy change the crank sensor in his '90 Z24 Cav. It was randomly stalling out and had to cool down before you could start it again, so he figured that's a pretty 'crank sensor-y' sounding issue and grabbed one.
Now, I dunno if y'all ever did a crank sensor on a 60* V6 GM engine, but they're below the exhaust manifold on the back of the engine block. No dig deal, you can get it from the bottom with some small hands. And it's a long dong that is never easy to remove. AND it's 26 year old plastic, so it crumbles as you try to remove it. That's what it did for me. I was left with a plastic nub and 2 metal leads hanging out to pull with.
Now, if you bust it off you gotta drop the oil pan and hammer it out from inside the crank case. A 30 minutes job turns into a 3 hour job. So I had to use kid gloves and a pair of needle nose vice grips to carefully but forcefully sneak it out of the block. I rocked the vice grips against a screw driver for leverage and felt it move a tiny bit at a time until it finally popped out and omfg it was party time, LOL.
Here's the comparison.... I think it might've been time to replace it. You can see how the plastic cracked/swelled a little on the part that goes in the bore. No wonder it was horrible to remove.
It depends entirely on the engine, how it's tuned, the transmission, and what level of performance it's putting out.
For example our ~250hp turbo 2.4L PT Cruiser with a tune and fat sticky tires gets about 21-24mpg on the freeway, while my stock ~230hp 4.6L N/A V8 Crown Victoria gets 27.
Ah good, now I have an excuse to get a V8. Nah. Even if you bought a prius I would not look down apon you.
Everyone's vehicles has to serve a purpose and theye get them to fulfill that role. I belive every one here would pick a ecobox if they were put into a situation were they needed one.

I love friends. I really didn't wanna go to Luby's this year and eat thanksgiving by myself.
1 call of "hey is that invitation still open?"
Today I am thankful for friends that are family.

Anyone got any tips for removing seam sealant?
Currently using a cordless drill with a wirewheel thingy. It works, but takes ages.

I'm going to guess it's a type of polyurethane. Soooooo.
Nothing unless you wana get deep into science shit. Acetone/Paint thinner might make it softer and allow it to come off easier. Or that might be a bad thing as it then would clog the wire wheel.....

fire will make it brittle and come off easier. just don't dump so much heat in that you warp the metal. maybe consider a carburizing flame too to keep oxidation down
[editline]24th November 2016[/editline]
chloroform is pretty effective at dissolving polyurethane but good luck getting your hands on that stuff these days. diethyl ether should be effective in theory but I haven't tried it for that purpose. it's also expensive as hell since you need anhydrous ethanol to make it.
acetone would work but it evaporates too quick for my tastes
that's assuming it is in fact polyurethane

also I managed to get a sunburn on my eyeballs today. my welding mask went missing when I moved my shop so I used my shade 5 goggles for an hour of welding. apparently not my brightest moment. pun totally intentional
Try a wire wheel or wire cup on a grinder. It'll strip it faster at least. Could try a hammer and chisel, too.

It happens. I think I've done it between Gatpunch and here before, too. Have fun with the spring.
I'm getting rid of my Saab and i want a smaller car and i think it will be a Golf so.
I test drove an Golf GTI 09 today and i liked it alot and it was a very clean and good taken care of and i managed to squeeze the from down from 119k to 97k SEK
My other option is a Golf TDI 2012 now this i haven't drove yet, i thinking of doing that on Saturday but the thing is i really like the new golf body from 2010+ but i can't manage to find an GTI or R line model from 2010+ within that price range.
What do you guys think? Anyone with VW Golf experience?
tdi is the only way to go

Lack of BRAAP BRAAAAP disturbs me...
My car finally passed the inspection, so now I don't have to worry about it for an other two years :smug:
Because I dont have any patience I wanted to see what the metal would look like once painted. (If you've spend 20 hours inside the car doing metalwork and bodywork, and everything still looks the same (messy) it gets demotivating.

I'll be so fucking happy when the body is painted.
Obviously I'll be sanding that away again. The car is going to be white. (At least for now)
Kia PiettashitOptima apparently lost most or all of it's coolant sometime within the last 2 minutes before arriving home. Had no issues prior to then, which is kina crazy. Only overheated for 1-2 minutes, but who knows what leaky shit I'll find.

Yes, Not only to lack of sound, but also because the Tesla probably nearly went in to limp mode after that. I mean at the very least it had to of had some sort of stupid warning going off. You can't track them for shit, and that seems to go with other street-electrics as well. It's like all that power is good for is drag racing, shits and giggles launches, and hail-mary-overtakes on the highway. Can't use it for any real considerable amount time.
