Hospital. Crashed Toyota. Broke spine. Not joking
Terrible news dude!!!! I really hope it doesn't mean you'll be disabled, but if it does, know life can still go on and you can adapt. I mean, is it a significant break, or is it on the minor side? The fact that you can post seems like good news at least.
Why would it fade in the opening lap? Probably because it was on shit street tires, was using DOT3, and weighs five thousand pounds. Even my FR-S had pretty severe brake fade at points the first time I took it to the track, and that is a car which is way easier on its braking system. It is possible to disable things like power saving mode and fit a traditional suspension instead of the air ride (the air suspension is great for the street, but not so much for the track). Which is what most of the stupidly rich people who buy Teslas to fuck around and drift them or race them do.
It just comes down to the fact that, at least from the factory, the Tesla is designed to be a mall cruiser/street car, not a track car. I'm sure if you took a Genesis G60 or an E-Class, weighted them up to 5,000 pounds, and then took them out to a track and smashed them around, you wouldn't have stellar results either.
I understand the thread doesn't like Teslas, for plenty of reasons (still experiencing first-generation issues, working out the kinks, infrastructure isn't there, too many computers, not ICE, etc.) some justified, some not, but just mindlessly bashing on a full-size, incredibly heavy luxury sedan for failing to be beat around a track just seems petty to me. Like, the Model S is not a sports car. No one is claiming it is. Especially not Elon or Tesla themselves. Ludicrous mode and the other options are just there for fun, not to say 'LOL ICE IS INFERIOR LOOK AT OUR GLORIOUS ELECTRIC PERFORMANCE THE ULTIMATE SPORTS CAR'.
Semi-related:
Certainly realize that. It all started with that Telsa drift video, hence why I feel I should share what I've heard in regards to how they can't really deal with performance limits if it isn't in short bursts. Has nothing truly to do with getting from point A to point B, it's just us being picky :v:. Even still, I have my own reservations against the push for electric, even disregarding performance points. Mainly about infrastructure and such. Already have argued it so many times here and in news threads, I think I should wait a while for new developments to pop up before getting back in to detailed arguments again.
It is minor, but still broken. Nothing serious according to the doctor

Not that I don't care about your health, but hows the car?
Totaled. Both airbags went off too

It was a shit car anyway but a cheap car
Totaled. Both airbags went off too
Shit, that sucks to hear. Hope you got a decent insurance company.
I'm sitting! I'll also go home today
I ended up buying the 2009 Golf GTI because the TDI one had alot of scratch marks and the previews owner apparently was in a parking accident, front spoiler is abit loose and there is a dent. They even increased the price by 500 euros.
I often think of putting a 5 point harness in my daily, whatever it may be, lots of the vehicles I drive aren't all too safe.
Hell, my 98 dodge has the airbags disconnected, but its so high that in a collision what I hit/hits me is going to go under. Rollover is where a cage would be nice.
Get so caught up in hopping up vehicles personal safety often gets overlooked.

How about a a rolbar at the B pillar? Looks pretty good too. Maybe a single bar from B pillar to the rear? (on both sides)
I'm changing spark plugs for the first time, I've taken the plugs out of the engine and I have correctly gapped the new ones.
My question is my old ones have a cage type design (3 strips of metal in a triangle) where the new ones have 1 prong, does it matter that they're different? As long as they're properly gapped?
Here's an example of the old ones I found.

Iridium bullshit plugs.
Also I hate to hear that lars. Get well man and keep it easy.
[editline]26th November 2016[/editline]
Iridium plugs arny bullshit but a spark will only arc off 1 end anyways
I'm at my sister's house now. Sleeping over and she'll drive me home tomorrow. Got two weeks off work paid and can extend if I need to. My mom's at my house watching my cat and went to the store for me. She'll stay with me for a few days to help me with shit until I can mange myself. I got some monster pills to ease the pain. Still got the merc tho so I'm not without a car

After seeing the results of my old co-workers second gen that rolled, I'm doing a full cage in my next one, no questions asked.
Granted, my next second gen is going to be turned into a race truck and do auto cross with it, but still relevant :v:

the 3 prong thing is some kind of marketing gimmick someone shit out a while back. only one gap will spark
Just punched myself in the face while trying to mount a shoe spring on the drum brakes on the Blazer. I was dizzy for a little bit and bled for a couple minutes, now I'm just sitting down and taking a break.
It's been 3 hours and I'm not even half done yet! The caliper bolts on the passenger side are seized to the caliper and I'm almost done putting together the passenger drum. The driver side caliper is all I've gotten finished in that time.
This is why I coat everything I can with this stuff in them high temp areas.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/GHo9s4O.png[/t]
Makes removal of stubborn bolts really easy in very dirty areas.
I also have antiseize lube for other random bolts too.
don't punch yourself that hurts. I've never had to change drums before and honestly I would just upgrade to a disk rear axle and get a new master cyclinder If I ever had to change pads on them and do a complete overhaul.

I lurk most of the time on FP but I am glad that you are feeling better and I hope you make a speedy recovery.
Ridge dude, I know yhe feels of hitting ones self trying to remove a bolt or something. I once hit my head open with a 22mm wrench trying to undo a tierod jamnut, bled like mad for a good few mins, right in the temple too.
Desu man, Glad your gonna be alright and some stuff is sorted out already. How bad exactly is the break? Is it some kinda fracture? Did a disk slip? Cartilage herniation? Anyway, you can sit up so it can't be TOO too bad at least. Good luck on your road to recovery.
I was once using a t-bar lug wrench on my rusty as fuck F150 and I couldn't get the lugs to break free. Was using all of my strength and of course it was the middle of july and humid so i was sweaty as fuck. Punched myself so hard in the face I fell over and sat there for a couple minutes like "What the fuck just happened?"
Ended up having to borrow an impact to get it off. Had a breaker car and a cheater pipe (6 foot too) on it and it wouldn't budge with 350 lbs of weight on it.
Feel better soon Ldesu, that stuff is scary. Thank goodness it's not anything life changing.
Here's some exciting Celica stuff, I started tearing down the 22R engine today. I'm hoping for some advice/opinions from some of you guys who maybe have more engine experience than I do, more on that below.
Starting the teardown

A bunch of stuff, most of which won't be going back on. Don't want the power steering.. going to go with a 1 wire alt, etc.

Some ding dong broke a bolt on the water pump. I was worried on about 3 of the bolts, but they came free. Apparently the previous owner wasn't so lucky. 10mm bolts into aluminum are always trouble, galvanic corrosion seems to be a killer. Not the first one I've had to extract.

The valve train looked great, nice and clean.

Then I popped the head off. Two of the bores looked nice

One bore had a weird pattern on it.. I can only assume that some moisture was in that cylinder and it sat for a while with the piston at that point. It's not quite as smooth as the rest of the bore where its stained, but doesn't really catch a fingernail, either. What's the thoughts on something like this, hone and re-ring?

And the final piston had some interesting little dings on the top of it. There's no major scratches or anything in the bore, so it's kind of a mystery as to what the heck happened here. As it stands right now I don't think I'm going to replace it.

However, the bore also has what looks like a wear spot. It's not any rougher to the touch/feel, but is just a slightly different color. Thoughts on that?

Rotating assembly.. nothing seems amiss there.

The oil pan had a bunch of gunk in the bottom. If you've ever dropped the pan on an auto trans car.. that's what it reminded me of. It felt like a thin layer of clutch material gunk. Do we just have some basic sludge here? What in the heck else could that ish be?

I'm not all too sure how I'd do it, it would have to be nice and tight to the cab, so i'd need to cut my dash and make sure it ties in with the frame rail nice and tight.
I was thinking of a bar on each side, then one than runs across the front top by the windshield and the other around by the back. The extended cab is probably one of the sturdier cabs compared to the regular cab (small surface area) and quad cab (not as rigid)

What've you got for a truck, not too sure you've posted it unless I'm mistaken?
The way I'm going with my rig it'll be a jack of all trades. Crawler, pre runner, drag truck, probably not autocross haha
With the new snazzy stuff I got it'll be at 11" of lift, but if I crank the coilovers it'll be 15" with the bodylift, which is definitely a concern for rollovers
In other news, picked up on my parts today! (Black bars I tossed for the pic, the blue-ish purple stuff is things that were included but wont go on the truck)
Iridium bullshit plugs.
Well you dont have to re-gap them when they wear, thats a plus.
It took about another 3 hours, but I finished the brakes. The rear needs to be adjusted a bit, but I can feel the parking brake try to hold the truck, so that's a bonus!

I was working on a few nuts the other day for 45 minutes and it had like a thou of play and almost no rust
it ended up shearing with like 200 ft-lbs on it
it was weird 2 nuts with almost no rust had a thou of play and it wasn't coming loose. the nuts must have been oblong or something

I've had two second gens. And I may as well post my vehicle history since it has changed a shit ton since I was last active... This is my most recent 2nd gen:
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/tT30a37.jpg[/thumb]
1996, 5.9 auto 2wd with 104k miles on it. Had it last year for a couple of months but I bought it from one of those buy here pay here places and the tranny was shot, had wiring issues, and it fried 3-4 ECM's. It slipped out of drive and back in so I went to the nearest dealer, and bought a 2014 Ford Focus hatch with the 2.slow and the slushbox "automatic" aka the worst transmission ford has ever made but won't admit to
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/3OqwQGR.jpg[/thumb]
Despite the shitty transmission, these are fun little cars. They have almost the same handling charactteristics of the ST model, without the turbo. So backroad carving and auto cross are doable in these at least to a point. Ford Racing makes an entire suspension setup for the SE model hatch, and it's actually possible to ST swap these for less than you would spend to buy a Focus ST.
This was my first 2nd gen... a 2001 I believe with 256k miles on it, 5.2 auto 4wd. had 2500 suspension swapped into it, plow and tow package. Thing was a tank until I lost my job and had to sell it. It's still being daily driven by the man I sold it to, and I've sworn to buy it back.
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/eXg4r6R.jpg[/thumb]
And this is my boring daily. I have an 80 mile round trip commute now so I can't afford a truck just yet. I'll probably wait for Ram to re-design their trucks before getting a new vehicle. 2016 Chevrolet Cruze LS aka base model(had like $4500 worth of incentives on it and the difference between this and the next model newer was built in nav and cruise control. But, since CarPlay is standard on all new Chevrolets, I still get nav so I'm only missing ONE feature that required me to spend $3500 more and lose the incentives. Didn't make sense to me.)
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/ibIw2Ie.jpg[/thumb]
Before all of these I had a 1995 F150 "4wd"(which didn't work) and it was more rust and paint than metal, and a 1995 Suburban, which was ALSO more rust and paint than metal. The frame on the suburban actually gave out when my stepfather decided to use it as a battering ram to push my F150 up the driveway. In his words, "I figured the brush guard would break before the frame did."
I think Im gonna bedliner the lower quarter of the body on my truck next summer. It wont stop the rust, but it will look better, and if I get thick enough bedliner, the rust holes shouldn't show up for a while. I just have to be careful that I dont get too attached to its good looks, with so much rust already being on it. I must embrace the rust, and the eventuality of rot. There is nothing I can do to fight it.
I'm sitting! I'll also go home today
Thank god you're ok. It's a good reminder to be careful now that we're going into winter. Can't wait for my studded tyres to get here. Btw, have you ever ordered tyres from Skruvat?
