Thank god you're ok. It's a good reminder to be careful now that we're going into winter. Can't wait for my studded tyres to get here. Btw, have you ever ordered tyres from Skruvat?
I wouldn't recommend Skruvat for anything at all really. I don't need to order tires from anywhere because my workplace has a tire shop too.

Why not? The parts I've bought off there have been from the same manufacturer as the other places.

The parts I've gotten have been terrible quality or completely wrong.
the 3 prong thing is some kind of marketing gimmick someone shit out a while back. only one gap will spark
Hey thanks for the reply, I put the new ones in after I did some more research. It was quite fun actually! I got to use all my new tools and it was pretty easy in general. Now I just need to change my oil and I won't really have to worry about anything until it gets warm next year. I'm sure my brakes can last that long.
Even though I had to buy all the tools and parts, I think after one or two more jobs it will probably pay for itself. Plus I might actually get dirty for once in my life.
Clutch, your question with the rust stains on the bore are likely from watwr sitting on the ring in that spot for a while but as long as the cylinder itself is not pitted throughout, you can hone it. You need to remove the crank as well. You dont want to hit it with your hone. Once your done take one of the rings and some plastigauge. It doesnt mattwr which one. Put the ring in the cylinder alone, and shove it down to where the worn spot was, push plastigauge in the gap pf the ring, then measure it. Then pull the ring slightly up towards where the head would go. Do the same thing. If you are less than say .005 off then id say you van continue honing and be just fine to go. Youll want to check the cylinder taper towards the top as well. Check to see how high a piston moves in the cylinder and where the rings stop. Check to make sure the rings never enter the significant taper in the top. If they do, you need to bore and go to a bigger piston.
Okay so I've had a title issue with one of my cars for a while. I got a 300zx from someone and the title was still signed in his name. I got this car about a year ago and been trying to get a hold of both, well today I posted a ad to sell it. Then I got a message saying a guy can fix the title by soaking it in something and getting all of the ink off for 50 dollars. Now I'm not sure if anyone has heard of this? Should I do it? What would be a issue if I resigned the orginal sellers name and placed by name in the buyer part?
I'm a little nervous for winter. My Civic is from Florida, so the tires are not meant really for winter driving. I managed to get past the previous winter since it wasn't so bad, but I also didn't hit too many bad patches.
We still haven't gotten hit too bad, but I worry still.
Buy some winter tires if your worried about it

If I had studded tires my back would most likely not be broken right now.
Any recommended places/brands for winter tires?
The best ones I know about are GoodYear and Nokian Hakkapeliitta
The best ones I know about are GoodYear and Nokian Hakkapeliitta
Michelin USED to be great value, but they've gotten lazy/greedy the last 5 years.
If Nokian makes tyres with compound matching your region temperatures, then they're usually the best choice, but there's often good deals on GoodYears.
I don't know how car related this is, but how impossible would it be for someone to make a car company like Tesla from scratch? Anyone know of any groups that are trying?

On a scale of 0 to impossible, I'd say pretty fucking impossible

You self answered your question. Should see how tesla started.
There's faraday future but afaik they haven't actually shown anything other than concepts. Fisker went bankrupt trying to compete too.

Main requirement is loadsa emone.
After all, it's hard to do it yourself or with just a limited group of people, so money to pay off contractors, designer & engineers is vital.

I like electric cars but I'm of the belief you have to use what's available and phase the infrastructure in, than whack it in on the first year and expect people not to worry about range.
Best not forget that Tesla wasn't just launched by any simple guy, it's launched by someone who also founded PayPal and runs a Space Program in his spare time.
[editline]28th November 2016[/editline]
Also I don't think you can use existing chassis as electric motors are quite different in design and require a different suspension setup. As well as the battery pack.
Is it 100% impossible, probably not. But it is for the avarage Joe.

Hmm did tesla release a patent on their chassis?
the gist of how tesla got started is that any idiot can buy a bunch of lotus bodies and cram an expensive motor and a fuckton of lipos in it, so long as that idiot is fucking loaded
My (bad) idea was thinking you could use chassis designed by the now defunct Australian car industry and put a gas turbine generator with an electric motors in them with a different body or shell on top. If you make the design a bit closer to petrol car and make the changes over generations, mechanics can adjust and hopefully can bring car people into the 21st century. Then eventually go fully electric once you phase in those systems. The manufacturing would be done mostly by machine with people hired to supervise.
Tesla are great, but like all designs ahead of their time, I think Tesla are being too ambitious.
I can't do shit though because I'm not rich, nor an engineer, nor smart, just crazy. Fun to think about though.
The industry has deliberately been made very difficult to break into. It's not 1922 anymore. If you have clients willing to carry the full cost of basically one-off hand production for the car, you can do anything; see LocalMotors - but if you want to produce at a scale large enough to be big name, you might as well forget about it. Tesla burned money for years despite having a great concept in high demand. It only stayed afloat because of Musk's other interests.

I guess there is no real difference between dying with and without debt if have no next of kin. At least I'd be trying.
I mean Musk stated in the software industry, rather than the Automotive industry.
For me it's just a pipe dream, but I wish there was some rivalry between Musk and someone else like there was between all those eccentrics in the 1920s. I hope someone does try that would create some jobs.

Make sure it's legal to have studded tires before you even think about buying them

Here in Sweden, It's illegal to have studded when you're in some parts of Stockholm. I drove to Södermalm, Stockholm on Saturday and as soon as i entered the city there was a sign saying " Studded are not allowed"

Studded are often illegal in places where they salt the roads heavily.
They're legal in Denmark between set dates (can't remember them), and there's dispensation if there's harsh road conditions outside those dates that makes their use warranted.
That's the same as it is in Norway. They're legal between November 1st and the first monday after easter iirc, or if the conditions warrant them. In some cities you have to pay to use studded tyres though, or you can be fined.
