don't bother with nos in a street car. it'll just make you wish you had a real power adder
Could you suggest a couple speedy cars or motors that would be fun to work on as a secondary? I had a 04 grand prix GTP before, that was my quickest car. I do prefer rear wheel drive, manual is a must. I'm not huge in the car world, I just like working on them.
cvpi. dirt cheap fleet cars with short gears and a motor out of a mustang manual is for sissies with weak motors but it's an easy swap in a cvpi if you absolutely need it
Took bus to work today to get the Merc back. A 15 minute trip took 1.5 hours. Fuck buses. Also took all useful shit out of the Toyota so now it's ready to be scrapped.
1994 Toyota Tercel - 3EE 4 cylinder EFI Motor Say I wanted to put a $400 nos kit into it. Fuel + N2O wet system. How do I remove risk of vehicle damage? What gauges/sensors should I install? Is there some kind of guide to tell me how much extra pressure and force my little 4 cylinder can handle without tearing itself apart?
Why didn't you just buy a faster car to begin with?
Your first car: '94 GMC 1500 Last car you sold: 1982 Camaro Last car you bought: 1985 MR2 Favorite car you ever owned: 1985 MR2 Longest car you've owned: 1982 Camaro Most fun car you've owned: 1985 MR2 Worst car you've owned: The 1985 Trans Am I bought for the 400 in it, which ended up being full of water :saddowns: Favorite manufacturer: Toyota Least favorite manufacturer: Hyundai Favorite car in the world: '71 Cuda 440 Six Pack, Superbird, Diablo SV, or Testarossa for muh A E S T H E T I C S The car you hate most in the entire world: Civics generally [sp]or maybe just their community[/sp] The last thing you purchased for a car: Fuel pump, and both light switches for the MR2, as well as a fender and rally muffler You've got 30 grand...what car would you buy? A GNX if I could find one.
Sure wish the MR2 wasn't in the shop :(
Mine's in the shop too, but hey, at least you don't have body damage and a custom paint job to fix :(
How about a "when you bought it VS how it looks now" thing? [IMG]http://puu.sh/sGBZM.jpg[/IMG Man I'm really fucking glad I didn't crash this.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/aM7zZFn.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/T7X7x0G.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/dvQp6nt.jpg[/t] So far just aesthetics things, but I really need to get my new muffler put on. Also some real JDM performance rims and not chinsy super heavy knockoffs.
Well, the explorer wouldnt start for my brother this morning. I tried jumping it a couple ways, switched the battery with my spare, and smacked the starter a couple times, but in the end we gave up and used the pushbar on the vic to push it up the curb off he street. It worked pretty well for being attached so flimsy like. Ill push it into the garage after work and start smacking stuff utill it works its probably a bad starter this damn thing eats starters like candy.
Holy Christ my RV has a 21 gallon propane tank. I didn't know that much propane even existed in the known universe!
Hey guys, what do you say someone makes us a tribe on drivetribe? Something not fp exclusive, but where we can do ghetto automotive journalism stuff.
Where do I have to bitch about the "social logins only" thing to have an actual positive effect?
I dont think it will help, anywhere you do bich about it. Anyways, if you guys do want to, i can make the tribe or whatever, but i dont have the means to make the tribe photo, and i dont know if the square and initials gets added on afterwards or what. Either way i nominate ldesu's pretty bug for the pic.
Neat, I found my sunglasses today. [t]https://puu.sh/sHhZV.jpg[/t] ...they've met the airbag
I've been lurking this thread for a while but I gotta ask, is there a book or website that just has a large list of resources detailing how a car works piece by piece for someone whos completely un-knowledgeable? I'd really like to work on my own on cars. Where do you start? I know completely basic shit like changing oil, brake pads, spark plugs, tires. How did ya'll get into it?

I forgot what the book was called, but ill find it when i get home. Otherwise, if you fancy a trip to your local library, i bet they have a couple similar books.

2 year college classes for me.. learned a ton, and I feel like I still retain part of it even :v:
How did ya'll get into it?
Dad has been running a cylinder head repair and aluminium welding shop as long as i can remember , it was impossible not to get involved eventually. I always took my knowledge of cars for granted and it appears weird to me how people who don't know how to put on their spare tire have a license. I guess getting a cheap-ish 4stroke motorcycle that needs work would be one of the easier ways to start out. You can try anything on it from setting the timing, valve gap adjustment, valve/ cylinder head disassembly, rebuilding the cylinder (getting the piston rings in and tightening the cylinder head propperly), countless other tasks and it won't break the bank if something explodes.

I just read a shit ton of stuff on Wikipedia about models of cars and then engine designs. Then went on YouTube and watched people do engine swaps and stuff. If you want to get a lot of cool info on internals of stuff check out: Engineering Explained Jafromobile EricTheCarGuy
I still retain some amount of pride that the only shop to work on my car while ive owned it is the alignment shop. ...and the stealership, once, but that was recall work, so i dont count it.
Why didn't you just buy a faster car to begin with?
I got this car for a steal, and I needed a daily driver anyways. Just thought if you set up the nos system right it wouldn't be a wreck or nothing major.
The drift team has officially stopped. We all agreed to stop now, because it's growing too fast and none of us kan keep up with the pace, having jobs and families and what not. So we decided to pull the plug. I made a little collab video from all the stuff we've done through the years. Makes me a bit sad, but all good things has to come to an end. The Jocks business is still going (stronger than ever), it's just the drifting that has ended.
A shame to hear, great video though!

the only thing I don't do myself is mounting and balancing tires [editline]8th December 2016[/editline] unless it's motorcycle tires I do mount those myself. motorcycle shops charge an arm and a dick to mount them and car tire places usually won't touch them. [editline]8th December 2016[/editline]
I do my own alignments by strategically hitting potholes until it drives straight again
ya'll laugh but I ain't joking. sometimes I even floor it into speed bumps in reverse to correct overly aggressive toe out
