Nah, it's not the low turbo models.
It's an upgraded high boost one. It even has the new T5 ignition system swapped. Just... How does such a small displacement and lite car have such terrible fuel economy. It even has a 5-speed.
So original SAAB ECU?
I wouldn't be surprised if a aftermarket one mapped by a tuner who knows his shit might change things, but except for that I'm at a loss.
Nah, T5 ecu. IDK. I just find it funny.
People over on the Turbo Dodge forums get 45-50mpg in their Daytonas. I'm talking bigger injectors, big intake, HX35 turbo, valve spring and lifter upgrades, cam swap, forged internals. Like... 300whp+.... Good shit.
My 3-speed auto N/A 2.5L Daytona gets 30mpg no problem.
Exactly...
It just confuses the hell out of me that a 2.0L engine with a good (in theory) head design would get 20mpg.
I love Saabs, but good design and Saab don't belong in the same sentence. Fascinating and beautiful cars that I'd love to own, but will never own one because the engineers who designed them must have been snorting copious amounts of coke during every stage of every product lifecycle. I feel bad for ragging on Saab, but they make little sense.

For models newer than 2014, they're always on. The only reason I know this is because I had a GLE tailgating me for no reason when I doing 70 was in the far right lane of I684 in my 190E 2.6.
my car overheated yesterday. its got like literally no coolant in it. it was too late to buy some coolant so i just filled the radiator up with water (and i'll probably do that again before leaving work today).
so i'm going to flush the coolant system before refilling it, i've never done this before so what do i do? as far as i know i unplug the tube from the bottom of the coolant tank and let it drain. do i need the engine running to do that and then do i put it back on and refill it?

Should be enough in there to get a grasp on it. Obviously dont need to do the whole chem flush stuff
[editline]9th December 2016[/editline]
and even then this is a little overkill probably for what you're looking to do, but it gets the basics

i'm not sure what type of coolant was in there to begin with. is flushing it with just water going to be fine? i've driven it about 150km with water since it over heated.
Yeah water's no problem as long as it doesn't dip below freezing and as long as it's not in there for a long long time.
If it's not a GM vehicle and is older than mid 2000s, you can assume it was green.
If it's GM and newer than like.. early 90s, you can assume orange Dexcool.
If it's newer than mid 2000s.. lord knows. Honda is blue, Toyota/Lexus is pink. Ugh.
The big question is.. since it was empty, where did it go? Do you have a leak, is it laying on the ground under the car? Is it being burned from a bad head gasket?
I think trek once told me that his LX didnt have any sway bars at all, and when he turns, he can reach out the window and touch the ground.
Meanwhile in my CVPI, between the stiffer police shocks, bigass sway bars, and the machined aluminum control arms I put in, I can chuck it into turns at 40mph with almost no noticeable body roll at all. Great weight transfer for turn-slidey wheelspinnies.
No rear sway bar at all when I bought it, and a teensy tiny front one. I salvaged a rear bar from a taxi and it drastically improved the car, but the whole thing is geared towards old ladies who say "oh it rides so nice." That said, I think the wallowing roly poliness is a bucket of fun. It's not the same kind of hardcore sports car fun as a sports car, but I take a sort of perverse joy in pushing the car to its wobbly limits.
Speaking of GM. Today my vent cover for my windshield defroster exploded while driving after hitting a bump in the road. Late 90's plastic was unbelievably brittle

nah theres probably still some in there, i'll have a look when i go to replace it.
its a 96 lancer so its probably safe to say it was green.
The tedium is getting too real.. Been going at every single engine bolt/fastener with a tooth brush and laquer thinner to clean them up nice. :v:
Also getting some of the larger engine parts painted. I got to sandblast a few bits, and the stuff I didn't feel comfortable blasting (timing cover, intake, etc) are getting cleaned up the old fashioned way.

Shower time for the rusty oil pan and fuel cell cover. Getting those ready for POR15.. maybe someday I'll run out of rusty and dirty parts..?

What I do when I'm fixing stuff up is grab all the fasteners and take them to a nut and bolt place to get all new grade 8 hardware. They hate me because its a lot of shit, but it looks nice and beats cleaning each piece. Cheap too
I remember on my rusty 95 F150 we used grade 8 bolts to hold in the bench seat i swapped in.
The floor around the bolts gave out about 6 weeks later :v:
did you drive a civ model or a cvpi? the civ models have a tall as shit ratio and air ride and yeah those are trash, but the cvpi has 3.55 gears and springs and way bigger sway bars and love nothing more than to destroy tires
Mine has a 3.55 lsd

There's a guy who tumbles bolts and he gets decent results, you could do the same with the harbor freight tumbler. Youtube has a ton of DIY tumbler/ultrasonic cleaners made from anything like radiator fans to palm sanders, seems like it would work decent too.
I also saw something really interesting about boiling parts in 50/50 antifreeze as a cheap parts cleaner. Seems like he suggests you could just toss it in like a $5 goodwill crockpot for a while and call it good.

Also don't sandblast any sort of internal engine parts like a timing cover or valve cover, unless they get ultrasonic cleaned afterwards. A buddy of mine fragged his S2000 engine after spending all the money to fully rebuild the head correctly with all OEM parts after a valve chipped from a spark plug melting via a bad coil caused by wiring that failed somehow. Wrecked his crank and ruined a perfectly good shortblock.
Not sure if this is the place to put this so apologies if I'm derailing or something. I'll snip if need be.
Got into my first accident tonight. I was driving my dad and his friend home from our brewery and I was low on gas to the point that I had to restart our truck after parking for a minute to drop dad's friend off. Didn't clear a turn at an intersection in time on the way to a station and ended up corner checking some dude who was going across, so I'm for sure at fault. Nobody was injured thank god, but my front left corner was pretty dented and his front was smashed inward to the point that it was grinding with his wheel really badly. I was driving a late 90s Chevy Tahoe and I think he had some sort of newer Ford model, never got what model he had because I was too freaked out in the moment and I still am. Scale of 1 to 10 as far as damage goes, I feel like mine is at a 3 and his is at like a 4 or 5.
What should I expect from here on out as far as repairs and insurance/legal issues go? Like am I just straight fucked as far as repair costs are concerned because I'm in a pretty rough financial situation already as it stands.

400$ can fix that tahoe right up with a entire new front clip.
Don't ask how I know.

What's a good, small truck capable of handling some plowing (for our own driveway, no plowing business in mind) and isn't a diesel?
While my brother doesn't care what happens to the Kia I've wanted to try and sell, my dad thinks we should still hang on to it. Still under his name, so I guess I don't fully get the final say. But yeah, he isn't sold on the idea of a Volvo s70...but he can imagine a truck. I guess towing (light sailboat) and plowing are is only interests in regards to another vehicle. And even still, he probably would still hold on to the Kia til the engine and tranny blow in synchronization, then rebuild them in the most half-ass method possible.
Here in Norway we use our (comparatively) weak small trucks like the HiLux or the euro Ranger for plowing. I even know of an old beaten up Mitsu truck used for plowing, so you don't really need a massive amount of power or torque to do some light plowing.
Ahhh. New Volvo problems.
We've finally gotten snow, and if my car has sat for a while with snow on it, the car will warn me that I have low coolant, but if I let it warm up then the warning will go away.
Guess I'll check the coolant level today or tomorrow.
In regards to plowing, when I lived in Utah they used an ATV for plowing. It also had a salt sprayer on the back. You really don't need a whole lot to plow things.

I've even seen a puny two-wheel tractor used for plowing, granted it could only take half a lane at a time, but it's better than nothing during the aftermath of a serious blizzard.

hah, forgot about that guy, he has the bipsto record, the next step up and the end of the line in terms of fiat 500s, that thing costs £35k.... and a brand spanking new one will set you back £50k

I'm actually looking to get a cheap plow for my King Quad for that reason. It's not hard and it's nice for my mom's drive way where it's just gravel and I'm the only one with fourwheel drive.

Soon..
Its also the most stolen vehicle in the United States
DMV is closed on weekends, so no registering the truck :(
So I decided to do some cleanup and basic maintenance. I removed some interior trim pieces and cleaned them up and replaced some burnt out bulbs. I tried to get off the trim around the gauge cluster, but some dumbass used a security bit T15 screw on 1 of the 5 screws and I can't get it off. Before I noticed it was a security screw, I manged to round out the head. When it warms up more (hoping next weekend will be in the 60s at least) I plan to take it to a car wash and power spray the oil and grime currently all over the block.
Jesus fucking christ
I almost lost the merc and all I've recovered yesterday.
While driving to my mom I drove past some dude's driveway with a hedge on one side and a garage on the other and when I drove past, he was reversing out in lightning speed into the road and I saw he was not stopping so I floored it to not get hit. I was maybe 10 cm away from getting hit.
With a spine that's already broken, and the only car I have left that would've sucked big-time.

Don't get in any elevators, drive through a field, walk under a pane of glass, be alone in a room with an oxygen tank or bbq using propane.
