The moderate amount of snow I was supposed to get turned into a god damn blizzard.
I've been driving the truck around without plates for 3 weeks. The cops don't seem to care, as they've been next to me or even behind me without pulling me over.
More boring things tonight.
Lots of bolts to paint... I like Valon's idea of replacing them, and honestly I probably should, but this is a 'budget' resto, so spray painting is going to be in the spirit of the build! :v:
Budget said loosely. It means that the seats that go in will be fake Brides instead of real ones.

Little love to the oil pan. I wasn't sure what to use on it.. but decided some POR15 since it had some rust/pitting. I hope it sticks.. but if it doesn't, oh well it's under the car.

And I gave the fuel cell a quick scrub down and wiped POR15 on there, too. It was ugly before.. slightly less ugly now. I think the POR15 will hold up to some fuel dribble, IIRC. So, bonus.

And I got this for my Buick Park Ave.. next spring. I took the almost-dead Yellowtop from the Buick to put into the Celica, so hopefully I can shoehorn this big thing in. I picked this up, then picked up my 'heavy' NSX gel cell to compare. Dude this Kinetk is massive.

More mechanical than car related, but does anyone know a formula to get gear teeth to match up correctly?

If You're talking about making your own gears, maybe this will help: http://makezine.com/2010/06/28/make-your-own-gears/
Tell you what.
Someone find me a Yugo that's local-ish to me (Vancouver Canada) under $1000 and I'll drive it.
I tried looking yesterday. The only ads for Yugos in Canada are in Vancouver and they all look like scams, not to mention they're all like $70,000.
Those kinetik HC2400's are massive I worked on a buddies DB drag truck that had 10 of them suckers hooked to a busbar charged by 4 mechman 370 amp alts to run 4 DC 10k amps running 20k strapped at 2ohm and 3 DC 175x4 amps running mids/highs

cops here care. basically all of your property taxes are covered by your license plate charge so plates can cost easily $600+
I've got 2 trucks I'm eyeballing. Main intent is a runaround vehicle, A-B dead reliable daily, with a possible flip/resale
Option one: newer, 30k more km than the other truck, not a sport so possibly less km (but I can easily swap on a sport front for flipping it?), new winter tires, otherwise looks really clean
http://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/calgary/2012-dodge-ram-1500-7900-obo/1223464955?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true
Option 2:
Older, less km, sport so it has more options, costs about 2k more than the other truck after doing some haggling, fairly clean as well but no idea on the tire condition. More options is the big selling point here.

why are trucks so fuckin cheap in Canadia so unfair dude, I'm about to go up there and import one because even after the taxes and shit it'll still be less than the MA bro tax

Dear christ where the hell do you live where license plates can cost 600+?
Been thinking of getting a 2004 Jetta, what do you guys think? Are the generally reliable cars?

Avoid the two-cylinder twinair's though.
Non-existent bottom-end torque, and if you ever fell like servicing it yourself, then the oilfilter is a royal pain in the ass to change due to its location.
The outphased 4cylinders were fun little tampon-mobiles though.

Sorry, force of habit to say that every-time someone mentions Fiat500's.
I worked on them for too long.
[editline]11th December 2016[/editline]
Also second-gen Ford Ka's are basically Fiat 500's without 'chic' styling and only with the non-shitty 4-cylinder.
Badge engineering.

Beats me! I figure lots of people are downgrading on account of work being slow, or rich people are upgrading on account of the trucks being miled out.
Theres not many under 10k though
The way our dollar is if I lived in the states I'd be buying shittons of Canadian vehicles
Dear christ where the hell do you live where license plates can cost 600+?
mississippi. the plates pay for schools and roads and whatnot. all it means is that it all comes out of your check when its time to get a tag instead of tax season

Please tell me that only happens once and then it goes back down to normal people prices and it's not like that for every vehicle registered?

You're in Alberta aren't you? Everyone out there is selling their trucks at a massive loss because they all lost their oil jobs.
1999 S70 AWD, has the 2.4T. :~~)

Tires dont have much tread, driveshaft makes noise, need to redo the brakes, and figure out whats wrong with the starter relay.
Spare is on because the other wheel had a bubble in the sidewall
Made it the 50 mile drive home without much issue aside from the battery being barely alive, which I'll probably need to get a new one.
Overall I'm v happy.

Wish I could convince my dad the family needs one over the Kia....
watch out for the ETM/MAF issues these models occasionally have. For that price I bet it might sneak up on you. Also my friend was asking $3k...$300 is quite the difference!
You're in Alberta aren't you? Everyone out there is selling their trucks at a massive loss because they all lost their oil jobs.
Everyone says this but I've been flipping vehicles for close to 4 years now and the prices have been all the same more or less.
The vehicles I posted are the only 2 out of 4 under $10000 in all of Alberta, the rest are listed at a more sensible 10k+
Just gotta be looking for the right vehicle at the right time
Please tell me that only happens once and then it goes back down to normal people prices and it's not like that for every vehicle registered?
prices drop as the vehicle ages. my tag is $32 for a 2005 model. once it's 20 years old you can get the antique plate which you never need to renew
[editline]12th December 2016[/editline]
when I first got my M6 it was $1100 for the tag but that's kind of an extreme case
Does anyone know anything about Duramax diesels? I think I have head gasket issues and may have to tear it apart. Wondering if anyone else has experience with it.

AA diesel expert here :v:
What are your symptoms?
LB7, LLY, LBZ, LLM?
First winter with my rear wheel drive volvo, it's kinda awful on snow. Luckily it has this "winter" mode that start it in second gear. But you cannot accelerate out of turns at all, the back just kicks out instantly.
Also if I (with nothing around) accelerate until the back wheels start spinning it always turns, well more like lists, right, like the left wheel is spinning faster or the right wheel has more grip or something. Is it possible for power transmission to become uneven over time?
Your rear end is probably an open diff

And thus, why driving a rear wheel drive vehicle in snow is not productive. Especially with open differentials and basically any torque. Not that front wheel drive only cars are any better, though.

The key to open diff RWD driving in the snow is to conserve momentum and use as much gas as necessary to move forward and nothing more. Also, make sure you have some winter tires or you're gonna have some slip and slide fun.
Just drove my 190E 30 miles in the snow, but I had to do 5-10 under the speed limit and didn't bother going near the gas unless if I had to. I also bled 10 MPH on each 5+% grade I went up so I didn't exceed the limits of my rear snow tires. None of the roads were plowed or salted, are not travelled by many at night, and had a 1" coating. It was a very nice and relaxing drive.
