The skyjacker long style soft rides supposedly are pretty soft for add a leafs, most of the reviews are about how good the ride quality is.
My main concern with too big of a block is axle wrap. These trucks were made to have no blocks at all, i feel that an add a leaf would be a more reliable option and safer option.
I might be having 1" steel blocks made, but long term, i'd like to get rid of blocks.
I've heard bad things about every name brand off road shock. All 6 of my shocks have been blown since i bought the truck (HD option, dual shocks on front axle)
Since i need 6, it'll be costly and i will be stuck with a budget brand. I've heard a lot of good about kings.
My truck has the 14 bolt SF rear, so a lot of diff options there. The tires are pretty decent as is.
My truck is a non-turbo 6.2. Straight piped, intake modified, i basically have all 300tq just off idle.
Trust me, you'll have nothing to worry about whatsoever with a 1 or even 2 inch block
Its shit like this that causes axle wrap (after doing a 1-2 shift at 3300rpm and 55psi with a 63mm turbo)
[thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/image_zpsdxecderr.jpeg[/thumb]
RIP aluminum driveshaft, fuckin stacked blocks with THE WRONG FUCKING BLOCK
/rant
The blue block is the factory block and they rarely wrap.
My dodge had dual shocks in the front (aftermarket) and it rode not too bad, the second shock pretty much pulled the weight of the inside shocks being they were blown. You dont have to run the second shocks in the front, the majority of trucks only have 1 (but two does look cool), if you went with a single good quality shock it'd probably do the work of two low quality ones
Fox 2.0 shocks are a step up from conventional ones, you could look into a set of them maybe? For how I think you use your truck, they may be a bit much. I've seen it fairly often the seals go out (had a dead one on my old LBZ) for the fox's.
Bilstein 5100 series would be my go-to replacement for a truck you want to ride nice and dont want to break the bank while also having something that will last.
Also, just in case you were thinking of them, the external res shocks are often just for show with how most trucks are used, my kings need them because of the travel and size (2.5 diameter I think, 3.0 in the front(?)) + cooling and how they'll be used, but street trucks for pulling a trailer are fine without.
Kings are exactly as the name imply, the king. Nothing beats them, but they cost a fuckload.
off topic-ish, can you make a 6.5L turbo set up work on your 6.2L?
lift leaf springs are so cheap idk why people even bother with blocks. I understand a body lift but just blocks ruins a truck imo
[editline]13th December 2016[/editline]
shit a brand new bolt on 4 link and some lift leafs will run you like 2 grand all in and give you an actually capable vehicle that doesnt axle wrap at all if set up properly
Supposed to snow again Wednesday night. They have 5 different weather models showing anywhere from just snow flurries to a foot of snow. Just get it over with already.
You got the bill of sale/title/documents showing you purchased it?
Bonus points if you have recorded proof that the dealer screwed up.
Keep all that shit on you when you drive. if/when you get pulled over, explain it to them that its pretty much out of your power and don't be a cock-mongler about it and you'll probably be fine.
Worst case? You get a ticket and you show up in court and tell them that, especially since by then I'd sure as shit hope you have a full tag then, and it'll 99% likely just get dropped.
Yup. I got pulled over in the MR2 before I had received the insurance card, so I had no proof of insurance to give the cop. He asked where it was and I told him I hadn't received it in the mail yet and I just told him my policy number off the top of my head and he let me go.
[sp]I got pulled over for blipping the throttle for a downshift in a town with noise laws. Not a rev, nothing obnoxious, just a blip. Dude told me not to do it again and didn't even write me a warning[/sp]
almost got fucking flattened today. was driving through downtown during rush hour (not quite bumper to bumper but no room to maneuver) to get back to my apartment and sitting at a backed up green light that i couldn't go through i look in my rear view mirror to see a brand new beige f250 barreling towards me way faster than he should have been going. i see the guy look up from his phone and he slams on the brakes and had to swerve onto the curb/sidewalk to avoid rear-ending me. it was right outside the police station too so a cop immediately turned on his lights and pulled him over lmao
That reminds me, two days ago someone ran a red light to get on the freeway onramp. There was a cop right behind him. The cop lit up his lights and pulled him over before he was even on the freeway.
Just don't run lights, kids. It'd only save you a minute if oh did, but then you'll get pulled over and lose a lot more than that!
I think the coil is going bad on the explorer. Ill get itchanged today ad we'll find out.
If there is a line between keeping a car running and denying it the sweet release of death, i think i crossed it a couple thousand miles ago with this thing.

I had something similar happen to me back when I still had my sentra. Some old guy stopped in the middle of the road and a suburban driver, driving too fast, stomped his brakes and swerved around me, into the median. Their front wheel was next to my door.

i can understand why people speed on the interstate or highway where it usually isn't dangerous and can even be safer, but why the fuck do people feel the need to multi-task and update their fucking facebook status or whatever the fuck while doing 15+ over the limit through a city center
its fucking mind boggling. im not really sure how to even deal with it. you can't just start jailing people for simply having a cell phone in the car, or upping penalties for moving violations. i think the only obvious answer is to make it harder to get a license and make retesting mandatory every couple of years

Nah, just have mandatory license suspensions for operating a motor vehicle while using the phone. Easy. They do it for DUI's, and it's just about as dangerous, you just can't put the inebriation down when you see a cop.
You just gotta learn how to use the phone properly.
You are promoted to General Asshat when you can properly watch youtube vidjas wile going down the interstate. Sometimes you just wanna catch up on roadkill....... comon.
On today's episode of absurd theorycrafting: Small 4x4 pickup truck. Cummins 6bt mounted backwards in the bed, driving the front wheels. Just need to make some kind of permanent reverser for the output of the transmission.

Lot's of states give fines, and are fairly strict about it, but for sure, license suspensions would possibly be a better idea since that's a much bigger slap in the face to face reality. Likewise, maybe it's best to build designated "safe text" spots where people can pull over. I mean we already have that, they're called breakdown lanes/runoffs, but maybe it would cement the idea that it really is ok to pull over and then check the phone.
I know in most states they write the laws to include stop signs and such. If I decide to touch my phone driving, and it's hella urgent, I at least wait for a light or stop sign. But still, I agree that there shouldn't be leeway, as a less attentive driver might keep driving, or anything really.

I agree that its a problem for stupid people/inexperienced drivers, and i get that you cant legally discriminate people for being dense, but lets be real here. As long as the conditions are right, and you still pay attention to the road, texting and driving is no more dangerous than changing the channel on your radio. I do it occasionally, and im not gonna stop. I agree there should be penalties for doing it, so normies are pressured to not do it, but just like speeding and rolling stops, its not gonna stop me.

there's a lot of things protected by law but being a vapidly brainless oxygen theft device is definitely not one of them

Seems like a rest stop renamed a "text stop" :v: Good enough though I suppose. I think they matter more in trafficy areas, where people feel less at risk since there are slower speeds and stop and go areas. I've definitely seen mindless people devote full attention to their phones driving on the highway though.
My main sin is changing songs on my old Zune HD. I mention I have a Zune because in newer cars with direct AUX ports, I believe you can use the skip buttons built in to the car to change songs with iPods, but not Zunes. And for older cars like my family Kia and Miata, I gotta use a tape deck cassette thingy, no other way to change songs than directly with the player. But, I naturally tend to listen to full albums and playlists, and I try to either rearrange or even delete songs I don't listen to regularly, so it saves me from needing to change songs too much. Plus I can usually just hit the next button without looking, although my attention is still sometimes needed to quickly search for the Zune, touch alone doesn't always work :v:.

I saw this on Junkyard Wars years ago. Flip the front axle around the driveshaft.
SO.. if we're still working on the "reasons to not own a BMW" list to make me feel better about getting rid of the 1 Series, here's a good one.
My roommate came home last night complaining of "no heat" in his 318ti. Shoulda guessed, there's issues afoot.
He changed his oil today and left the car idling in the driveway.. 20 minutes later it was smoking and overheating. Oops. After it cooled down he tried driving it to work, and it overheated again. He filled up the coolant and made it the rest of the way.
Then he drove the damn thing home and it was pegged to red by the time he got here. Ugh.
I tried filling up the coolant and it just made a huge smoke cloud in the back of the engine.
I pulled a bunch of crap off (including the cowl and a big wiring harness holder POS) and finally got a good look at a plastic coolant pipe that connects to the head. I was pretty sure I saw a crack, and sure enough, poured some coolant in and it came spewing out.
So here's the trick. It's 9pm. It's -1*F. I have almost zero room to work on the rear of the head. But the engine is still hot (lol it sure is), so I have one shot. I spent the next hour with a wrench and a socket sneaking 2 little bolts out that held it on. There wasn't enough room to use thumb and index finger to back them out so they had to get slowly, 1/8 turn by 1/8 turn loosened until they would spin when I used my index and middle finger to fiddle them out.
Here's the offending dink. There's a big hole there, yep.

SO. now I need to source one, replace it (in the cold) and refill the coolant and all that ish and hope to kami-sama that the headgasket isn't blown/head isn't warped from running it TO THE RED. Urgh.
In the "reasons to be sad about getting rid of the BMW" department.. check this out!

And the Celica trunk with a sub box I scored, battery, fuel cell.. pretty useless now.

Hey, news from this guys as well. So 9it's been about a week and a few days since I did my lash adjuster check on my engine and all is in fact, to a point, better. My upper engine noise that sounded like knocking or rattling is gone. Even under random RPM throttle blipping, which is really good news because I was terrified it was gonna result in some kinda rebuild, and I'm broke so thats VERY bad.
The adjusters themselves have been silent since as well due to what I assume is putting them in with their inlets pointing up and not other random directions in such manor they don't leak down, because they can. Scoring on the cams is rather minimal save a few select spots, like their warped ever so micro like, but still very smooth. I did discover that on the forward cam hold down/holder/thingum that the bolts were not what I'd call tight, on either head. So, fuck you ray you dick you built dragster engines for how many years? C'mon dude...
Anyway, theres a NEW noise that kinda sounds like it's coming from the trans whilst in park and 2-3 shifts are getting a bit more slippery. So FML on that.
And in suspension news, my driver inner tierod is going and my PS rack I believe has a bad guide bushing making the whole damned ram at the drivers side wiggle latterly, to which it should only move parallel in it's housing, as it's designed to do. At least it doesn't really leak. v:disappoint:v :why:
In other news my roomate got an RV for like $1000. It's an old Ford based Coachman Leprechaun. This thing:

Hey trek, any expertise working on one of these? It sinks behind the cab at the floors and has caused the cab-over to sink as well. Do these fuckers use metal brackets to support the back half or are they made entirely from shitty particle boards?
The payments to snap-on never end lol I was paying off my bill from when I lived down in GA for almost 6 months after I moved back to illinois. I've never actually bought a Snap-on box though I had a millwaukee 46" in GA/illinois and now I'm rocking 2 husky 52" (15 and 23 drawer) with a milwaukee 60" MWS separating em which by my calculations is about 1 arm and half a testicle less than snap-on would of wanted

I think hes been really busy, last I remember its ready to fire and all hooked up, except his brand new starter is DOA (why he went with the classic gear reduction is beyond me, at least I think its a GR starter)

Depends highly on the manufacture and what was "in" for that year. Basicly you should have floor joists and plywood on top of that, and fucking pray you don't have water damaged joists.
Start ripping the old ass carpet up and see what you're working with man.

-snip talking out of my ass-
I don't know enough to say anything definitive, but my initial impression would be damage to the wood.
My rig hasn't had any major water damage yet, so I can't recally comment beyond that.
Well, the front diff in the explorer makes a nasty howling noise when 4wd is engaged. It has plenty oil it. Whatdo you guys think?
Zinger: chewed up spider gears
Info: screwed up pinion gear
Heart: butt-destroyed bearings
Wrench: fuck it all, find a junkyard axle and slap it on
