Apartments frown on doing anything more than driving your car
I kept a dead jeep in my parking lot for ~4 months at my last apartment and to my knowledge nobody complained.
Granted I also lived with the complex's courtesy officer/state ATF agent so that may have affected this.
My soup hasn't moved more than once in like 8 months but you can't really work on cars here, maybe you could get away with basic maintenance if you're quick about it. Living on the far side from the main office in a huge apartment complex helps a bit.
Can't work on the racecar since it's at the cage builder :v:
Apartments frown on doing anything more than driving your car
I put my lights on at my apartment, but I live in a young couple's basement, so they're pretty cool about it. Even got some "help" from their 2y/o
But yeah, clutch is just out of this world in terms of stuff he gets done. Lately I haven't really done anything since my mate's shop is full of horse riding equipment.
My chevys has been to reliable...
my chevy pukes out all its fluids and needs a new rear end and rear main seal but other than that it's great
[editline]15th December 2016[/editline]
oh and it recently started losing transmission fluid which I haven't tracked down yet
I"ve got to draft up engine and transmission mounts for my car because it's even worth doing anything else :v:
I love it when you hire someone, and he turns out to be a complete pro and sends daily updates

Hey, I'd probably charge $700 to haul that pile of junk away and scrap it, too.
...what do you mean he wants money for it?
I had one of them, it wasn't horrendous to drive.
I still see it around, two owners later.
Welp, changed the coil in my car, and it seems to have helped the rough idle, though the car still bogs down when flooring if it downshifts. Still no signs of the injectors misfiring and no change of resistances between them. Joy. Guess I'll pull the plugs tomorrow if I get back before dark and see what it looks like.
Id just like to say that i love you guys and this is my favorite thread on fp.
Decided to set out to make the rear defrost work on my Civic. Broke out the $1 Harbor Freight test light. Had power at the engine fuse box, had power at the defrost switch, relay functioned correctly and had power. It literally just disappeared somewhere between the relay in the dash and the rear defroster.
Gave up trying to find it after stripping some of the interior and the hatch trims, figure it's either behind the the trim panels, deep in the C pillar or in the impossible to get to rubber boot between the hatch/body. Definitely wasn't stripping the entire rear interior without cleaning everything, slapping sound deadening everywhere and fixing all the water leaks.
I tested the rear defroster by connecting it to the rear wiper power, everything seemed good and it worked really well despite a line or two not working.
[t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5601782/EF%20Pics/2016-12-14%2015.59.02.jpg[/t]
Already had the rear panel off to test everything against the main rear ground so I just ripped the wire out of the harness to test it for power around there and the test light fucking lit up for the first time. So I got out a solid 10 foot chunk of my good 14 gauge wire, lubed it up with dielectric grease and stuffed it all the way down the hatch channels. Then I poked it and painfully fed it through the inside of the boot that goes between the body and the hatch. Got it through the boot after about 15 mins and then got it to somehow feed from up there all the way down the C pillar to the trunk floor near the rear harness.
[t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5601782/EF%20Pics/2016-12-14%2016.19.09.jpg[/t]
Chopped it all to length, cut the wire and spliced it in place of the old wire back by the hatch latch. Used a butt connector, heat shrunk it then wrapped it in electrical tape. Chopped the old female spade connector and put that on the other end of the wire so it looks 100% stock. Tested it all and threw it all back together after like 3 hours.
Clutch, I don't envy you audio dudes. I ran my door lock actuator wires through random holes in my door frame and left them half bare. Totally half assed it by having the aftermarket rubber boots that came with them not attached to the door. Running stuff through those boots is a total nightmare.
Everything works on this car now finally, crazy how some people will let the vent selector cable fall off in view of the gas pedal and leave it like that for years without questioning why it doesn't work. Shit like that bothers me more and more over time. Now I have to get bulbs for the hazard and defrost lights which I've neglected to replace.
Dudee I've done actuators in like 2 of that year Civic. Horrible. It's so fiddly and the door boots are so tight.
I'm actually fairly happy I don't have to do a lot of actuators these days. Almost everything is cable locks and it's trouble to make a rod actuator move a cable door lock. Ick.
Some of those things are just so intimidating. I did a 2017 Audi Q7 with like 50 miles on it the other day for a remote start. Surprise, the feature where the CAN integration module is SUPPOSED to 'pulse' the door pin didn't work, and I had to run a fucking wire into the door to pulse the analog door pin at shut down to turn the auto lights and ish off. As it were, it was pretty easy. But man, that was a big leap to take :v:
Tonight was a BMW night. It's funny, I didn't want to keep that 1 Series and have to kick the Celica out of the garage.. but here we are.

I got the new pipe on.. and managed to drop my 1/4" ratchet in a way where it fell back onto the top of the trans. That's not coming back lest the car needs a new tranny someday. And by then it'll probably be on the road somewhere. But aside form that it was a lot easier in a 60* shop with lights and stuff, lol.
So I filled up the overflow with coolant and saw this interesting little oil trickle seeping up (middle of the neck)

Fired it up and rigged up a vacuum hose to vent exhaust

And then let it bleed a ton of air off through this handy little bleeder hole.

After about an hour of idling and getting it to take coolant it seemed to be about full, and had been holding steady at 1/2 temp. So I drove it for 15 minutes or so, checked coolant, and it took down some (had also gone down to about 1/3 temp). I filled and bled it again and drove around some more and it took less, so I topped off the tank and called it a night. It had good heat in the car and temps were steady at about 1/3 when driving and 1/2 if it was just sitting and idling. The exhaust didn't smell like burning coolant, either.
It's going to need some miles on it to see if it continuously takes down coolant, or if we're just getting out that last bit of air. If it proves to keep drinking it I think she'll get a headgasket in a can and if that doesn't help I'm out, I gotta focus on the Celica, LOL. Maybe a summer project next year (or an M3 swap? haha). Fingers crossed, though. It seemed like there might be hope for it tonight.
Here's a cute pic of the coil reassembled for the Celica, since I guess people are keeping track of how far we're all getting on our projects ;)

I found this gem while browsing for parts cars. All i can hear is mister regular. "16,000 dollars invested, feel sorry for me"
SO.. if we're still working on the "reasons to not own a BMW" list to make me feel better about getting rid of the 1 Series, here's a good one.
My roommate came home last night complaining of "no heat" in his 318ti. Shoulda guessed, there's issues afoot.
He changed his oil today and left the car idling in the driveway.. 20 minutes later it was smoking and overheating. Oops. After it cooled down he tried driving it to work, and it overheated again. He filled up the coolant and made it the rest of the way.
Then he drove the damn thing home and it was pegged to red by the time he got here. Ugh.
I tried filling up the coolant and it just made a huge smoke cloud in the back of the engine.
I pulled a bunch of crap off (including the cowl and a big wiring harness holder POS) and finally got a good look at a plastic coolant pipe that connects to the head. I was pretty sure I saw a crack, and sure enough, poured some coolant in and it came spewing out.
So here's the trick. It's 9pm. It's -1*F. I have almost zero room to work on the rear of the head. But the engine is still hot (lol it sure is), so I have one shot. I spent the next hour with a wrench and a socket sneaking 2 little bolts out that held it on. There wasn't enough room to use thumb and index finger to back them out so they had to get slowly, 1/8 turn by 1/8 turn loosened until they would spin when I used my index and middle finger to fiddle them out.
Here's the offending dink. There's a big hole there, yep.

The very first thing you do with an e36 is get a new thermostat w/ aluminum housing, water pump w/aluminum impeller, and ditch the stock clutch fan for an electric one before it wrecks your shit. Their cooling systems are notoriously unreliable but it's a very small price to pay for such awesome cars. I hope on your post above on this page you at least got a new t-stat housing. It's worth noting that you probably have a plastic impeller water pump as well.
Well, now I got an 0202 and a 0302 CEL in my Charger and an extreme loss of power after restarting the engine with a warm block. CEL flashes when idling or under power but stops when coasting, and my traction control is stuck off for some strange reason....
What in the fuck? Injectors test good and there's no audible signs of them not activating. Brand new out of the box coil. And I did pull the plug and it looks just fine. Visually inspected the wiring harness (as best I could, I can't see past the plenum and don't feel like messing with the fucker at night when I have time to actually do anything), and don't see any signs of torn/chewed wires.
Is your ECU dead/dying? My PT Cruiser did some weird shit like that when it was going bad.
The truck is registered! I can now drive it around town (like I've been doing for the past month).
Next step is to steam clean the engine and get all the sludge off it and try to track down the oil leak. I might rebuild the engine in the summer (or swap it out for something with triple digit horsepower).
Is your ECU dead/dying? My PT Cruiser did some weird shit like that when it was going bad.
I'm kind of suspecting it's some computer. Dunno if PCM or ECU. I'm kinda leaning towards PCM since I had that weird Dashboard issue and transmission lockup a few weeks ago. Ever since then the car has been acting all sorts of batshit.

My dad's Magnum did all that and tripped the alarm every other day when the PCM went. He junked the car over it, though it's apparently a cheap fix.

Lol I didn't change anything except the elbow that broke. My roommate is a po' boy and honestly should have a Civic or something instead of a BMW. I'm sure he'll wait until more plastic things break until he buys new ones, or a new engine, or any of that stuff. Thanks for the suggestion, though. I'll bother him about it and see if he's interested.
The car made a round trip to a town about 20 minutes away today I guess. Coolant is still in the same spot, so.. maybe we're OK.
Why is it that Muscle Coupes are more expensive than their 4 door counter parts?
Why is it that Muscle Coupes are more expensive than their 4 door counter parts?
Higher demand. People who want sedans don't think muscle cars, people who want muscle cars generally don't think sedans.
