christian music + metal doesn't make much sense to me.
Eh. I'm into metal core but I like Escape the fate a little bit more.
Besides the only good part of this band is a girl who goes to my school cousin is in this band.
If Maverick is true, and ATR makes anti-religion songs, than your the one who is full of shit. TDWP makes songs that are mostly about attempting to live a pure life.
Just scroll up a bit, someone posted one of their anti-religion songs.
Metalcore is metalcore. Just because someone doesn't like every aspect of it, it isn't an excuse to add another bastard child of a label into the world. Face it, not all metalcore is good.
There is such a thing as sub genres. Melodic Death Metal is a well established genre, so why isn't Melodic Metalcore?
They're not really trying to be "brutal" and whatnot. They go to shows and play music. All That Remains are the guys that try way too hard, every time I've seen them, their singer is on the stage between songs like an idiot "YEAH CIRCLE PIT YEAH WALL OF DEATH FUCK YEAH SO HARDCORE". I'm not a religious person, it's pretty dumb that you're going off about their religion when they don't force it on anyone and stuff. Some of their songs mention religion, but a lot of them are about other things like global warming and shit.
I think the meaning behind their songs is pretty intelligent, much moreso than ATR singing about how "RELIGION IS DUM LOL". If anyone's being disrespectful, it's them.
But it comes down to preference. If you like hearing a double-bass pedal slamming non-stop, go ahead and enjoy your ATR. Nothing is stopping you. You don't gotta lash out and get all defensive about it.
At least they're speaking their honest opinion and not trying to trick people with their "cool t-shirts." We're going off on their religion because they feel the need to make it EVERYTHING. THEY have stated that all of their writing and all of their actions are based off of and influenced by their religion.
ATR is "disrespectful" with a religion because they don't agree with it. Look at some TDWP lyrics now... from "Lord Xenu" (Haha funny song names)
Gravity
Teach me the ways of retaliation
I'd like every backbiter to know that audience is always priority, rather than the stage
It all comes down to this
Look elsewhere for books of narcissism
Pride is a trend that is far past swollen
Death through windows
No longer can I live a life of no control
These stories we've been writing are water-thin
Its disheartening because I know that we are capable of vision
Blemishes are warnings so simply concentrate and apply pressure
And it's branches will be broken
The city to be punished
So many never listen
And I drown in disgust
When you will you ever remember?
When will you realize (that) false statements fall to the feet of dead Gods?
False statements fall to the feet of dead Gods!
That is absolutely disgustingly ironic if you ask me.
And I don't understand how you're telling him that he doesn't have to be defensive when you are even more defensive.

I don't understand how they're tricking anyone with shirts? Also, religion is their source of inspiration for the their songs. Why is that such a problem for people? What makes religion so much more repulsive as a source of inspiration than any other source does? So they're influenced by religion, nobody really gives a fuck. I'm not religious at all, I'm not offended or anything by them singing about it. I listen to it for the music, not for deep and meaningful lyrics. Music is meant to be enjoyed, not dissected.
Also, why do people have such a big problem with the song names? I mean, I don't find them funny or anything, but I would never let the name of a song determine how much I like it. It seems really silly to judge music based off of what it's called, not how it sounds.
As for the song Lord Xenu, it is religious but if you compare it to the ATR song above, it's not nearly as aggressive. Also, despite the meaning of the lyrics themselves, it's easy to see that they write pretty intelligent lyrics compared to most other bands. They might be silly and religious to you, but at least they aren't screaming "GOD IS GREAT" the whole time.
By defensive, I mean the personal attacks, calling me full of shit and stuff. I'm not judging anyone because of what music they listen to. ATR isn't bad, I enjoy listening to them, I just think it's silly to say TDWP is the most terrible music in the genre and then point to ATR and say it's the best, when it really isn't.

You can't base your entire opinion of a band on only their stage performance. Yes, it does say a lot about the band, but actually listen to the albums and read the lyrics. The musical integrity and meaning is superior to TDWP. I only made one statement about their religion, though I do hate religion, and I love that All that Remains is an Atheist band. Global warming is pretty stupid too, so that's a double negative for TDWP.
One song by All that Remains has the word God in it that I know of. I could care less who is being respectful or not, The Devil Wears Prada could be the most polite band in the world (which doesn't belong in metal anyways) and still fucking suck. I like my metal intense and meaningful and/or offensive.

How are you missing what I'm trying to say. My first point was confronting what you said about "not all of their lyrics are religious." I was hoping I wouldn't have to address everything individually. That's one of the big things that bothers me. People always say to me, "they're not always singing about god," as if that's some kind of fucking virtue, while the exact opposite is seemly the only reason said person is listening to them.
Even then, I'm having a hard time finding a song that doesn't have explicit christian undertones if not overtones. Some of these lyrics are disgustingly blatant.

Referencing their stupid ass song names but hell no we're not going to address our ACTUAL lyrical content. We'll just look silly! You'll never find a god damn TDWP t-shirt on it with ANY reference to anything they actually care about because that would scare off fans. Oh no! At least then they'd have some fucking integrity in my eyes
Lyrics like "God Is Great" by my standards isn't even writing a song, it's reading from a hymnal, so what TDWP is one step up from that, ie barely writing. I can't imagine how fucking terrible the bands you are saying are worse than TDWP must be. Family Force 5 or something? Hollywood fucking Undead? Lady Gaga? I can't even begin to imagine.
These have to be the most arrogant and flat out stupid lyrics I've ever read.
Dear tomorrow,
Find some sensibility.
Respond to emotion.
Dear politician,
Define sagacity.

One after another, nobody stands behind the ones they've selected.
Nobody stands behind the nation they've selected.
All chances of survival are beginning to diminish.
Comedy is no excuse for our own blasphemies.
Mass media/mass pessimism/mass denial.
My television tells me to panic, but I don't think I'll listen.
The apathetic force us to persevere.
The apathetic, with their backwards priorities.
If only the strongest of stone was not necessary.
One after another, nobody stands behind the ones they have chosen.
One after another, nobody stands behind the ones they've selected.
We could build a monument for memory:
Liberation includes failure.
Your rebellion is resultless,
So be angry at yourself.
If only we did not deserve this.
Lord Xenu is a far more condescending and self-important song. "Christianity the only way, you're all fucking idiots and you're going to die" is what it's really saying, which if you can't tell has no intelligence behind it. It's condemning the belief in a different god. On the other hand, the ATR song is clearly condemning their VIOLENT ACTS rather than their BELIEFS to a rather large extent.
Christ still stands perfect in my mind.

Ah beware the "nihilist" and bring forth judgment so we can get rid of all of these gosh darn sinners!
I think it was Nietzche that first claimed Christians to be true nihilists.

Of course many of their songs are religious. Like I said, they sing about trying to live a pure-life, and to them, Christianity is partly the way to a pure life. They aren't trying to get people to convert, as stated before.

This. It's easily one of my favorite shirts.
I think the whole point on the shirts is stupid. Not many bands put images on their shirts that have to do with the music itself. If anything, their shirts have more relation to the music itself because the put song names/lyrics on the shirts. Other bands just put a picture of some skulls and other "cool shit" and just put their band name.

Lyrics straight out of a song. How is that not relating to their music?
Their T-shirts are ridiculous.
In fact, TDWP as a band is one of the most ridiculous bands I've ever seen.
From the stupid song names to their lyrics and the whole thing where they can't shut the fuck up about being Christian for 2 minutes, not to mention the overall mediocrity of their music and the fact that the vocalist uses Autotune, I can honestly see more reasons to dislike them than to enjoy their music. Just another shitty metalcore band, but now with Christian undertones. They're the Brokencyde of metal, really.

the shirts usually have something to do with the THEME of the song though, and the theme of these songs is the exact opposite of their titles, but that's exactly what they're selling.
[editline]06:10PM[/editline]
Beyond that, I don't know if you've seen many band shirts outside of hot topic, but most of them feature either the band's mascot or logo, or album art ripped right from the album. Even Nickelback shirts do. Bands that want to sell an image rather than their actual music put unrelated shit on their shirts.
Even metallica's hundreds of shirts feature art from their singles or inspired heavily by them at the very least.

I'm pretty sure everyone who has a definition of "pure life" has a different one than someone else. I'm just throwing this out, but to christians such as TDWP, I'm guessing a pure life is one of holy-ness, peacefulness, with no bullshit, materialism, or dick-heads causing a riot at any moment possible.
well it's not one of peacefulness. Apparently it's one of people dying by the sword and judgment.

I highly doubt their lyrics are supposed to be taken literally. They're probably written figuratively, just like the Bible is.
I wasn't taking it literally. my point still stands
Can't we all just agree that they are whiny christian tools trying to be metal, despite the fact that metal is frequently if not always the polar opposite of what Christianity stands for.

They can play metal, I'd just like them to not subtly tell me that I'm going to hell if I'm not Christian. I'd also appreciate it if their singer didn't use Autotune.
I just don't want christians near metal, it's an aggressive genre, and christians frown on violence and aggression.
It's hypocrisy
