I always slept through all my classes and never did any of the work but aced the tests everyone would be so mad [editline]17th March 2011[/editline]
Anyone who cheats on a test deserves to have their testicles removed. (Or comparable body part if testicles are unavailable.)
it's not cheating it's using the resources available to you. true intelligence comes not from prior knowledge, but from being able to find that knowledge
Yes. Either sack up and work for your grades or accept the consequences like a responsible adult. If you need to cheat in high school you're just a lazy shit and if you cheat in college you're robbing yourself of knowledge you will likely need for your future career and hence your employer of skills they expect you to have.
life is nothing like cramming for a fucking test life is about fun and enjoying it, the best skills are social skills and you get that from cheating lol
it's not cheating it's using the resources available to you. true intelligence comes not from prior knowledge, but from being able to find that knowledge
Hooray for laziness apologetics! "It's not cheating, it's being resourceful!" At least have the nads to admit you're being a loser when you cheat on a test. Although given you clearly don't have the nads to succeed or fail under your own power, I guess that would be a bit much to hope for. If life is all about having fun why do you care about your grade at all, then?
because your grades will in the long run determine how much fun you have later in your life.
It determines how much money you can make on average, and most people need money to live. Fun comes with living.
A test is called that for a reason. To test how well you understand what is being taught. Also, a single bad test grade is not going to destroy your life or even your grade in a class, particularly in grade school.
if by "learned", you mean memorized for that specific test [editline]17th March 2011[/editline]
Hooray for laziness apologetics!
because your grades will in the long run determine how much fun you have later in your life.
If having fun is all that's important, are rape and thievery permissible as long as you aren't caught?
Let us say you're in this situation. You are are in college and taking a class completely unrelated to your major. This class will never come up in your life again. You try really hard in the class but still come up short and you are in danger of getting below a C in the class although you work pretty hard. If you get below a C you'll have to retake the class because it is required for your major, and retaking the class would not only take up a lot of money, but also take up a lot of your time. It is finals week and whether you pass or fail is all up to getting a good grade on it. You find that you have a way to cheat without getting caught. Is there any justification for not cheating besides "cheating is wrong"?
Cheating in college in a class unrelated to your major is the only time I can see cheating being even remotely justifiable, but you're still an imbecile if you do it. If the college has decided that the class is required for your major and for you to get a degree then you don't deserve a degree if you can't pass the course. If you care whether or not someone gives you a bit of paper saying you know something up to the standards they require, but you don't understand the material they expect you to know to qualify for the degree then you shouldn't get one. But when you take classes unrelated to your major they're pretty much always piss-easy anyway if you put just a little bit of effort into them, so your point is moot. I suck ass a chemistry but I had to take two semesters of it for my major. Got Bs in both of them. Got an A in a programming course, etc. etc. You people overestimate how much work it actually takes to do well in a class. I can't think of an instance in which I have done poorly in a class that can't be traced back to a fault with myself rather than the class simply being too difficult for any mortal to pass.
Oh man, you're seriously taking the smallest thing, and making it into something it's not
Don't think it matters? Don't argue!
And I've lost

Granted, it helps, but if you've got a degree under your belt and the right kind of luck you're pretty much guaranteed a good job that being said, I only ever cheated in high school. I stopped cheating once I made it to college.
success isn't all that much about knowlege
Definitely not true if you're a physicist
I hate this shit. The video was entertaining, but I hate this shit. Cheating means your grade will be incorrect. An incorrect grade means you get shit you don't deserve. Now, if everyone call pull their head out of their ass and see the bigger picture here, you'll see why this is bad. Namely, you'll get incompetent doctors that kill their patients, engineers that build shitty buildings that eventually collapse, and so forth, and so forth. Seriously, it's bloody retarded. It's like heating up a thermometer instead of the water whose temperature you're measuring. It's called the greater fucking good. If you don't know your shit, suck it up and don't fuck the world up just because you want rivers of money. Cheating is only justified if the test isn't, which most of the times doesn't show through. Seriously, when will society teach kids that it's the goddamn knowledge that matters? I know people that say their objective in school is to have good grades. If your goal in the institution is to get out of the institution, why have it in the first place?! [editline]17th March 2011[/editline] And to the people that say that joy in the important thing in life: true, the thing is, the way through which you achieve happiness is through intelligence and knowledge. Seriously, I hate the L O L FUCK DA SKOOL, LIEVS A PARTAY people. Without school and science and competent people, you'd be living in a cave dying of grade 3 Ebola-AIDS. Your happiness is just as important as others (in and of itself, not counting how much happiness that happiness generates in others), shit doesn't change just because you're the only one experiencing it.
Definitely not true if you're a physicist
and then everyone on earth was a physicist.
and then everyone on earth was a physicist.
Success, by the way, either means competence, or it means hedonistic practices that lower the world's happiness pool, and in the first case, you need knowledge, in the second case, you need the first definition.
If your skill at something amounts to being able to being able to copy what someone else is doing, why would I ever want to hire you or whatever? That's not being resourceful, that's being a waste of space.
Isn't copying what someone else discovered what modern education IS though?
Isn't copying what someone else discovered what modern education IS though?
Einstein: bad about covering up his papers also yeahno
justin bieber is a competent musician
You're not even making sense anymore [editline]17th March 2011[/editline]
Isn't copying what someone else discovered what modern education IS though?
The key word there is copy. Replace it with learn, and you have yourself a correct sentence.
I don't get why cheating in school is so frowned upon, people cheat all the time in the real world and there's no teacher/principal/whatever to punish you for doing it so you get away with it. Plus, if you're cheating you're being resourceful of your environment. If the smart kids can't be smart enough to cover up their own fucking test and then you can easily see all their answers, that's their own fault. Prepared for dumbs but I don't give a fuck.
Just because something is part of the status quo doesn't mean it should be supported, I don't know how that is supposed to make any sense at all. A test is supposed to measure your understanding of the subject material, and that alone. If you cheat and look at someone else's paper, you've invalidated the test. So you deserve a 0 by default. What's with the disagrees on JohnnyMo's post?
Fine, competence = skill. Now, employers still set standards, which are probably true. Engineers and shit directly depend on knowledge. McDonalds' employers use your grades to appraise your intelligence, which is a valid characteristic. Not entirelly correct, I agree, but the solution is not to fuck the universal knowledge test but to create a new test for applicants for McDonalds, that they would administer.

[editline]17th March 2011[/editline] Although some if it might have to do with disagreeing to the obviously exaggerated threat of castration.

I will not cheat even though I won't need math when I'm a doctor and if I don't read math I won't be able to study to become a doctor in Sweden because it's really hard to study to become doctor in Sweden. So few spots in medical school.
I remember one time in high school someone wrote part of the periodical table on their arms and they just wore the school jumper so the teacher wouldn't see, not sure how they did though. In my final year I left all my studying for the last night(well more like 30mins on the last night) and an hour before the test.. I got C's and I didn't think I would do better if I spent more time studying than goofing off. And as for cheating I tried it once but I noticed the person was doing all the wrong answers, so I'm glad I didn't use their answers.
Let's just say that I've never been in a multiple choice test and thank God for that. Writing essays in my opinion is a much better way to test the students.
