• Serious shit is going down in Wisconsin, Protests Everywhere

Riots are the only way governments these days get the fucking message. It's sad seeing the overall system of politics has to be communicated to through these methods.
Madison Protests were the feature story on the nightly news tonight
I agree with him! Clearly people who are paid so little already and provide such a valuable public service as educators deserve less pay!
Then you can feel free to pay them if you feel they deserve it so much.
too bad west allis never closes at all [editline]17th February 2011[/editline]
Oh hey, I'm right next to Wisconsin. Why the hell haven't I heard about this yet? Facepunch has gave me the news once again! At this rate, I don't even need to pay for satellite.
probably because you don't really live here and it's not THAT big of a deal
Democracy in action
Illegal as well, I'm quite sure.
It's unethical, not illegal.
What I'm saying is that we're taking a heavy hit, but we're rolling with it. And they're all like "No, fuck off, this is our money, you can't take away what you're giving us." Personally, I don't think the government should be involved with education anyways. You wouldn't have problems like this.
Having gone to a public school I'd be all for privatizing schools. After Katrina destroyed New Orleans the only schools left were private schools and they became the main form of education, and guess what New Orleans' education rates sky rocketed. Having to endure a shitty teacher that wastes your opportunity to learn to push their own agenda or do anything other than teach you is a waste. Yet most public schools can't fire these teachers because of Tenure or the unions. And those teachers have no incentive to be good teachers because they don't have to. They'll get paid either way.
That's because they're underfunded though [editline]18th February 2011[/editline] and then the gap between rich + poor would become huge
That's because they're underfunded though [editline]18th February 2011[/editline] and then the gap between rich + poor would become huge
Not really. How much do you think each household spends per year on education? My school costs <4000 per year. There are relatively cheap private schools out there.
Walker threatening to get the National Guard makes this whole situation even worse in my eyes.
Well Wisconsin, you know what to do. Walk like an Egyptian.
Well Wisconsin, you know what to do. Walk like an Egyptian.
yeah like that'll happen over some teacher salary cuts
Hopefully New Jersey follows too, they're doing similar cuts to the teachers here too. Which is even bad for me personally since my mom is a teacher.
I hate how liberals don't like it when tea party activists... wait never mind tea party activists don't flip cars!
Protest them fuckers cant do this
Well, every school in my area is closed but mine. Fuck it, i'm not going
show up to a protest with a free Yemen sign or something b/c that would be witty in SEVERAL ways first it would make them realize how stupid they look b/c there's real problems elsewhere in the world and also its topical and there's a potential third layer of cleverness if they dont get what it is b/c then its like welp guess they can't really fuck up your education since you're already totally oblivious and then you put the smuggest face on (:smug: like this) and you tell them they're stupid or something and then you walk away with your witty ass sign and your keffiyeh did i tell you to wear a keffiyeh if i didnt im telling you now wear a keffiyeh [editline]18th February 2011[/editline] if you want to be RLY witty write the sign like half english half arabic (learn to write arabic) so you put like NO MORE HAMAD IBN ISA AL KHALIFA on top and then لا مزيد من حمد بن عيسى ال خليفة on the bottom
Well, every school in my area is closed but mine. Fuck it, i'm not going
no fight the power my son fight the power
yeah like that'll happen over some teacher salary cuts
Maybe there are hundreds of other tiny of cuts and shit like that but hidden/not widely known. You have to draw a line somewhere, or they will continue doing that until they get their ass kicked.
Everyone's trying to be as cool as Egypt.
Can someone explain to me what is going on :S?
Do any of you guys know how good teachers have it? They get generally 50% or over their pay for the rest of their lives when they retire. Most people get around 30%. They then get really fucking cheap healthcare. They pay like what, $100 and they are protesting to raise it $50? It is costing the state over $1,500 per person to pay for their healthcare. They can live with the reductions. It isn't going to affect their live or the way they teach. They still have better benefits than most Americans have with private companies.
This bill may bad or good, but it seems to me that neither the OP or the ridiculous "protesters" have any clue what their mad about. On principle, I'm against lowering teachers pay, but before I went screaming my head off and making rather silly and childish posters, y'know, I at least give a five second go at trying to understand why the issue was occurring in the first place. "Scott loves dick" doesn't really suggest to me that the protesters are really protesting about anything they are aware of.
What the fuck there are protests everywhere nowadays. Back in my day we just shot protesters on sight.
Any national guardsmen should be ashamed of themselves if they follow up on orders of this nature. No only are they violating their signing agreements, they're committing treason against the United States, and its people. Just a taste of what's to come in the rest of the nation before long. Bill gets signed, people get angry, national guard cuts them down. Anyone heard of the Kent State massacre? Stop being stupid and believing stuff like this couldn't happen, it's happened so many times before, even in recent history, it's unquestionable.
wait so is this the end of the world 2012? a disease that makes 40% of techears sick cant be good. people will get dumb and then we forget how to fly the planes that have the nuclear bombs and hit the farmlands so we don't have food. government coverupp? i wonder..
I never understand cutting money out of the educational system to save money. There must be other ways of saving money.....
Like firing bad teachers. But there is a whole big fuss about that.
What's up with this thread and cheese? Is Wisconsin famous for some cheese or something?
I hate how liberals don't like it when tea party activists... wait never mind tea party activists don't flip cars!
If someone flipped over my car, they chain the teachers to the radiators and pay them with packing Styrofoam for all I care.
Whether the protests know what they're protesting about or not, if it gets passed, there WILL be Anarchy. Quick, everybody get to Wisconsin. It's lootin' time.
