You would make a great porn artist, if you draw midget porn.
You would make a great porn artist, if you draw midget porn.
yea those sketches were from my figure studies course.
I can tell you're a big fan of Wes Burt. Your technical skills aren't bad at all, but keep working and try to incorporate more of your own ideas. Wes Burt is Wes Burt, you can't be him as bad as you would like to(trust me, I wish I had his mad skills too). Good stuff though, I really liked some of the pieces.
O_O well i dont know what to say, and how to go about with what you said. its funny that you mentioned wes, because this is the 3rd or 4th time i have heard that name. in all honesty, i like the comparison, but i have to disagree with the inspiration. my sketches books are typical graffiti artist traits. always drawing never going anywhere. my friend Bombsquad (graffiti artist) was my rival, and my true inspiration. he found creativity under rocks, and burning building, he was my first friend to ever sit down and teach me how to properly hold a pencil. one thing that i like about his work is his attention to detail and use of reference. his tonal range is phenomenal and i hope to be at his level one day. but do i admire him,no, I'm simply trying to do what make me happy. even if it pisses people off, or i dont impress anyone i want to leave this world knowing i did what i love, and died happily ever after :D
While I really like most of your work, I'm going to make a few suggestions on forum etiquette because I see you are new here. 1. Capitalize your sentences. 2. Don't use smilies like :D or O_O. Facepunch has a lot of smilies that you can see here: http://www.facepunch.com/misc.php 3. Acronyms like lol are also usually frowned upon. But other then your annoying to read posts, I have to say that I like the most bird one the most. Mostly because it's a break from the rest of your style.
I really like your drawing style, especially the bird.

Go out and draw landscapes, whatever you think looks cool. Buildings, trees, skate parks, etc. I used to do a lot of drawings similar to yours, mostly because I was so enamored with Wes's work. Even if you don't think you are that influenced by Wes, some of your drawings are almost exact replicas of ideas that Wes created and used often as his own personal motifs. I was really happy copying Wes's style for a while too, especially when I saw my pieces improving. However, it took me over a year to realize that I would never be as good as Wes Burt if I continued to copy his motifs and style. Even if one of my pieces looked good, the minute I put it up next to a Burt drawing it looked bad. Ever since I started drawing from life and watching more movies and reading more books, my drawings and ideas have really progressed into something that is uniquely my own and makes me much happier to do. You may think that your current style is your own and makes you happy... but all I can say is that I hope you experiment a little more and hit your stride in a way that is uniquely your own. Still, some of your pieces are rather nice.

But in all honesty, no, im not trying "to be" wes burt, again , i do what makes me happy. i have been doing these types of things since highschool about seven years ago. and it all started with bombsquad, i can draw landscapes, and perspective, im also a painter and seldom do the odd jobs here and there. lol, thank you for the honest comparison i know you meant well and i hope that i dont insult you or anyone on this thread. but i wont change for anyone and im going to keep skething because its fun! well just be patient im sure ill finish something pretty soon, as a matter a fact ive been teaching myself how to paint on photoshop, so with some patience i will get the hang of it. thank you guys for all your kind words, and thank you for your honest opinions.thank you for the sugestions, theyre real great help. you guys that dont understand and get my work, you dont have to ever come back, its fine, you dont need to like me eigther. But please dont feel the need to come in here and tell me how i need to "improve", or what to draw to become "better". my whole life i have been self taught and have been persistant. its better if you keep your rage bottled up inside. quit being such trolls goddamn it! its sounds like im cranky, im not, if youre going to give me 2 cents let me atleast see some of your personal work. id hate to take advice from someone who's an expert stick figure artist. I like your drawings alot! for how long have you've been drawing?
Your stuff is great, loving the style. Also, her hips look a little pointy in this one.

12 years now, im 22 years old so this sounds about right. You know what this is the first time i have noticed her hips being so pointy, so what im going to take careful steps on the next female study.
Well, I'm turning into more of a fine art painter now, I used to do a lot of sketchbook work out of my head. I found that I was happier depicting life from observation, although I do draw from my head for fun sometimes, but those aren't really compositions. I plan on being a realist narrative painter once I get out of art school, and I have quite a few ideas for some big paintings I would like to complete, but for now almost all of my work consists of studies. You can check out this website to see some of my older work (it's all a few months old and not representative of my current abilities); the digital stuff is out of my head and the traditional stuff is from observation: connordejong.carbonmade.com . If you want to keep in touch just keep posting your work up here and I'll help you out in any way I can. I'm going to have my first group show at a gallery in the area, so I will start making some finished pieces (not studies) in the next few weeks.
nice dude im happy to hear that. what school do you attend? i really love your first study, how many hours did you dedicate to it? well jong, i guess i can start working more from life. its such a drag though. ill be posting up work pretty soon!
I attend the Grand Central Academy of Art in NYC. I skipped my senior year of high school to begin my studies there this year; I'm only 3 weeks into the program but I've already learned so much. You can take a look at the school here: http://grandcentralacademy.classicist.org/waterstreet.html . Thank you for the kind words about my work; that study took me about 3.5 hours. I'm currently working on a new figure drawing that will be done in late October, though. That one will trump the hell out of that old study, I can see so many things wrong with it now. I'm glad to hear that you will begin working from life. My best piece of advice, besides drawing as much as you can, is to redraw everything you draw from your mind, from your head. It really solidifies your understanding and you will see noticeable improvement in both your observational and imaginative work in a short period of time. I think you will be surprised to discover how fun it can be to draw from life, it's only a matter of finding inspiration in the right place. Don't just draw a bowl of fruit, go outside and draw a beat up old building that has a lot of soul to it, or if you live in the countryside, walks out into a forest or by a river and draw the flora. I love doing studies of trees; it may seem boring, but as soon as you begin I think you'll rapidly fall in love with the process. I look forward to seeing your new work. I'm going to sleep now, I'll check back tomorrow evening. Take care :).

With those feet it couldn't possibly be a reference. Also thread revival now?
Damn, this is excellent! I love the hooded girl!
With those feet it couldn't possibly be a reference. Also thread revival now?
Its was a bit of a half and half the figure was from school it was a quick sketch. the face is actually a friend of mines, and its funny that you mentioned the feet, but up until now, i just remembered i needed to fix that. after surfing the endless net of all its vast porn websites and meme based bullshit, i decided all i needed was this. i dont take photos, so i wouldnt use flicker, and i dont draw anime so i wont use deviantart. so here i am back at square one its the only thread ive ever started, ever so it means something to me. [editline]28th May 2011[/editline]
Thanks for ruining it Kagrs. I didn't notice the feet before :arghfist:
I wish i was talented but so far i can get about 70% of the human body without reference. I found it that figure study's helped my work a bit. This stuff is great. It's still feels like an unpolished diamond though. So much potential. But it's already great as it is.
I'm rather in love with your shading style.
Very JSRF

Last year I had alot of shit happen to me, and quite frankly i lost focus, and drive. Looking back at all the comments people have posted i have gotten some positive feed back, some good, some bad. I just want to document my progress, i picked this site because it cracks me up. the amount of material and topics are funny and informative. [editline]8th June 2012[/editline] with the last two photoshop drawing i have gifs of the work
awesome sketchbook/thread, first time seeing it thanks to the bump
I am super glad you returned with an update to show improvement! I remembered your brush rape pics, it's good to see you've moved away from that.
Wow, you sure have improved since 2010.
i started this thirty minute sketch, so far, its very rough i will keep updating.
