you forget to mention that 2D boy chose not to put any kind of DRM on world of goo

I think it was worth it. Gameplay, art, and music were all stellar.
no, it was up for download and all but you could not get to the first mission or save or anything until a couple weeks after
No, it was cracked in under 24hrs by SKIDROW (I don't recall if there were issues or not), it was just a really inconvenient fix and most of the braindead morons who used it had no idea how to work it properly. A better one was released later.

I think it as worth it. The game was amazing.
why is sharing illegal!/?
How the hell is it morally correct?
For a start, a large number of people spend a LONG time and a LOT of effort putting a game together, especially towards crunch time when developers sometimes work 3 or 4 days straight (as in not going home for like 96 hours at a time). And then the producers rip the developers off and take like 80% of the money anyway.
The only thing you do by pirating is hurt the developers MORE than they already are being in the process of making a game (and developers DO get royally screwed over in the process) and potentially lead to the destruction of a company that could produce great titles in future just because you're too fucking cheap and lazy to pay for a game.
Because you're not taking money away from the team or the people who are responsible, you're taking it away from the corporation. The team still gets their pay, most likely the same shitty pay they'd receive if the product was successful.
why is sharing illegal!/?
When it's put like that (which it is, in its simplest form), it sounds so stupid to be illegal. :v:
It can be construed as civil disobedience.
OP you are an idiot
Pirating is not moral at all retard we might aswell implement anarchy
Uh, what? Is that even English?
not really, if the development team's product doesn't have much success they'll probably be paid less
Development jobs are very rarely commission-based. That's largely unfair considering they're just given stencils of what people want and they go and hammer code out for it.
Piracy removes the money the company could have made.
Theft steals the money.
So, the company doesn't even get the money from the "sale". It's stealing.

Why do you guys think that every person who pirated was planning to purchase the game?
I find myself torrenting games that have either an inadequate demo, or no demo at all. I will then download it, play the first one or two missions, then decide if it's worth it. If I actually enjoy it I will then buy it. My torrents are nothing more than "demos".
My view-
Anyone who thinks piracy isn't stealing is an idiot. You're taking the content someone's worked on for free, and they get nothing out of it. I don't consider this very much in the realm of piracy (Like how the number of moons jupiter has, has nothing to do with buying a car), but it's definitely true that anyone who uses this as an excuse to pirate is an idiot. Just use good reasons, or come out and say you don't give a shit enough to pay for it.
I'm one who supports the moral side of piracy, in the sense that I feel it is ok to pirate shit that you've already paid for and broke (For example, my sister broke CD 1 of Fable 1). Or in another case, fucking DRM'd to hell and back games. That one guy who had DTools and 2 CD drives is a prime example.

If a product isn't financially successful do you really think the producers will be willing to back the developer in future?
Imagine a game as successful as Mass Effect had only made a million dollars. Despite how jaw droppingly amazing the game was, if it had only made that little money: you can bet your ass there wouldn't have been any sequels to it.
i can't get Bioshock 2 to launch anymore. Dam drm :argh:

Exactly!
Done, Going to play.

I think the succession that's more important than finances are how supported the game is by it's users. if people want a sequel and the game isn't 'financially successful', someone will hear them out. and if it's that dedicated of a fanbase, they will get income.
Pirating indie games is just mean and downloading large games would eat my internet to quickly so I don't pirate games.
For people who say "PIRATING IS OK BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT STEALING A PHYSICAL COPY"
If you sneak into a place such as a water park without paying you aren't stealing a copy, no. You're still getting enjoyment out of the materials and entertainment that the water park provided without paying the proper price.
That is ripping them off.
When people say that pirating results in loss of revenue, that goes on the faulty assumption that my money is the publisher's before I give it to them. If I pirate a game from a company, they have lost nothing, as they had nothing from me to begin with. It's the same reason why people sound like idiots when they say tax cuts result in the government losing money: it's money they never had to begin with.
i know a guy who pirated minecraft played it for 2 hours and said fuck yeah i am buying it! he bought it 10 mins later

Generally this is the point where the issue of piracy becomes very subjective.
Despite the fact that there might be an altruistic minority of gamers out there who will buy games they've just pirated based on whether or not they were going to buy it in the first place, it shouldn't be forgotten that people in general are usually selfish and will take whatever they want if they can get it for free.
Even though it's relatively hard to actually catch pirates, the only thing stopping most people from pirating at all is the fear of getting caught, so they buy the products instead. And while the anti-piracy measures agencies have set up certainly are Draconian, this fear of reprisal is what keeps the gray area of the market aligned on the producers' side.
It sucks but we have to deal with it.
Whats a Pirates favorite letter?

I buy games because I'm not a retard and want the people who put the effort into making them to get the money they deserve out of making the game, and, if I buy a game, would probably like the same developer to be physically able to produce future titles instead of going bankrupt because everyone was selfish.

There's a certain capacity that the water park can hold. Piracy is different because there is no limit to how many people can download the game/music/whatever.

So it's acceptable if EVERYONE who ever plays game X pirates said game because no physical copies were taken, even though, because EVERYONE pirated it, the developer will make no money?
Even if the game is ridiculously expensive, and isn't that great, people still put a large amount of time into it. You are in fact stealing. With the whole "they make tons of money hurr" idea still going, that's just idiotic. You'd rather have 10 dollars than 7 dollars and 23 cents.
