An annoying fad that will fade with time. Shrek 4 was pretty decent, but it didn't need to be in 3D/Real-D.
3D sucks cocks for people who wear glasses

Quite, quite.
I kind of like 3D. If you don't like it, don't watch it in 3D, pretty simple.
3D sucks cocks for people who wear glasses
depends on the kind of 3D. Imax 3d has wrap around glasses you can wear while wearing glasses.

other 3d things like Real3d or Disney digital 3d do not.
Oh god.. Clash of the Titans
I regretted seeing that in 3D
AGREE, hardly anything in it was 3-D
Yup too many 3-D films they are just slapping 3-D on it now :/
It's ok for animated films like pixars but srsly?
While I personally haven't seen a movie in theaters in a long time, the recent 3D fad is just that: a fad. It gets people to plunk money down on a movie they'd probably otherwise ignore or wait to rent/watch on cable.
At least some studios have some common sense in making 3D versions of movies. For an example, knowing no one would see it even in 3D, they never made a 3D version of Marmaduke. Common sense?
3D movies have been a fad like 3 times now. They stick around for like 5-10 years and then they're gone until the next generation.
3D sucks cocks for people who wear glasses
Agreed.
They should offer clip-on lenses, or hurry up and develop functional glasses-free 3D. I bet they're mostly waiting until people stop buying overpriced glasses.
It's good when it's not just a gimmick, but when it actually ads something to the experience, like in UP or ToyStory 3. When they throw shit in your face, that's just kind of annoying.
They're the movie equivalent of motion controllers for video games.
Also I didn't watch Clash of the Titans. Why did everyone hate it again?
Agreed.

Supposedly Nintendo has glasses-free 3D for their new Handheld, the 3DS.

They had a prototype TV like that at last year's Yorkshire Show.
It sucked balls, but apparently the 3DS is a huge improvement. (If you look at it from just the right angle.)
3D is neither mind-blowing nor eye-popping.
Well at least it's not like Spy Kids 3D where they exclaimed "PUT ON YOUR 3D *Finger points at you* GLASSES". That was really annoying. As long as they aren't doing that, like Toy Story 3, It's fine for me.
Don't fucking remind me of Spy Kids. That movie was disgusting.
Also, i have nothing against 3D as long as it doesn't ruin the movie. If it's just an addition to improve visual experience, then for fucks sake, by all means.
This seems to be a new rule in Hollywood: If you can't make it good, make it 3D. Of course, there are exceptions.
I liked Spy Kids. :(

Did they actually use Scooby Doo's model for Marmaduke or is it my imagination?
I believe that 3D can be used as a tool to immerse the viewer more into the movie and could perhaps be used for creative effect. Just as an example, if there happens to be a scene that is intended to show there is distance between a couple through use of a good shot, I believe the distance between them can be further enhanced through the use of 3D. Right now 3D is being used more for eye candy and because it is more marketable, but I believe that there can be great use of it.
3D will be better when directors try to do less SHIT FLYING TOWARDS THE VIEWER
Fucking This.
Toy Story 3 had no need to be in 3D. Would have been better without 3D considering how fucking annoying the glasses are.
However, action films do go well with 3D, especially the new Resident Evil, it looks like a very good idea to have in 3D.
The glasses make my eyes hurt
Supposedly Nintendo has glasses-free 3D for their new Handheld, the 3DS.
Nintendo does in fact have glasses free 3D but it's not new. We had the technology to do this for years but they could not release it to the television market because it has a small viewing angle. Other than that it looks just as good as shutter glasses 3D (which looks very nice).
Also if you have doubts it will make a difference, many people at this years E3 expo said that 3D added to the experience and the depth made gameplay easier.
A gimmick that needs to die as soon as possible
[editline]01:59PM[/editline]
at least at the moment.
3D without glasses seems like a step in the right direction but with all the technological advancement going on there's no way in hell I'm buying a 3DTV just to see something else coming out a year later.
I think SOME movies deserve 3D. I have to say, I really did enjoy Avatar and A Christmas Carol (The Jim Carrey animated one) in 3D. Some movies are really a ripoff though. Half the movies that come out in 3D weren't even filmed with a 3D camera. They just made them into that "fake 3D" bullshit just to make money. I guess it really depends on the movie...
3D movie tickets are more expensive. That's a good reason why it's overused.
People need to stop thinking of 3d movies as a gimmick (and stop using 3d as a gimmick) so can can advance to the next generation of entertainment - three dimensional media.
It seems like the new blu-ray designed for theatres just to jack up prices. I'm not buying a N3DS for twice the price since I already have a normal DS and not paying double for 3D movies.
/maybe i'm just picky

What?
Now 3D is fine when done right, though people running their entire movie through a edge-detection software is fucking common and lame. I haven't seen Clash of the Titans, though everyone I know who saw it in 3D regretted it. The reason being the edge-detection software half-assing the 3D.
I disagree with what lots of people have said in this thread. Toy Story 3 had terrible 3D.
