Don't use the pen tool in photoshop. Use Illustrator or Flash instead. Instead of spending all of your time inside (I'm not saying you do), go outside and look EVERYWHERE. I don't mean run down alleys and bother bums but just look around.
In fact, I prefer photoshop over illustrator. It is quick and nice in my opinion, as long as you know what you are doing. These are vectorized using photoshop:
this is a vectortrace i did eons ago, in photoshop as well.
Can't really see the point of it.
it was fun.
I thought tracing was bad?
vector tracing is okay, it's better than it's alternative - vectormagic.
i stand by that point that vector tracing is ok its almost the entire point of vector anyway
All my work is vector. I think I only traced once or twice. [editline]11th December 2010[/editline] arrghh what does it need! The right of the foreground - whatever I do just looks lame. Also fixed up the tree and leaves and the water reflex code has changed; no real visible change but it doesn't lag the game to death.
I really like those clouds

Starting to draw with a tablet, the shading might be a bit odd and there's some oddities in the perspective but I think I've got a nice start, or? (Oh and, in my head, that alien-animal-thing would live on a lower gravity world where those pointy legs would actually work as legs without it falling over)
Might just be me but I don't like how a part of the foreground has some black outlines but the rest of the image doesn't.
It's a vector, those are just construction lines. Once colour and shading is finished they are removed.
Oh, okay, now very familiar with much besides traditional art.

Learn about values and perspective and how to break shit down into simpler shapes adn all that stuff. Look up tutorials, do some drawings off photos and life and such. drawspace.com is where I started out from. I didn't pay much attention to it but now I kind of regret it.
I've pretty much done that already and I know about values and perspective, I just fuck up when I draw digitally for some reason, I'd give an example if I had a scanner or a camera somewhere, which I apparently don't. But I'll continue with that then, thanks. [editline]11th December 2010[/editline] And for some reason I started drawing outlines everywhere.

IT's pretty easy to tell based on that digital thing your overall level. I'm not really in depth at the moment, sorry, got a killer headahe.
Alright then, thanks once again. Hope ya headache goes away by the way.
Get rid of the tree. It's waaaay too distracting.
I rather like the tree here. [editline]11th December 2010[/editline] This was made using only the pen tool as well (no tablet, just cursor) (except for the bg) 170 some layers lol

I don't think this is worth a thread. http://www.mixcloud.com/Shoh/first-mix-wip/ Its quite long.
i stand by that point that vector tracing is ok its almost the entire point of vector anyway
It is the entire point of vector. Being able to turn something small into something huge without loss in quality. Anyone that looks down on vector tracing doesn't really understand what a vector really is and what purpose it's supposed to serve. Most of those people simply think "vector" means "Patches of solid colours". I mean, how many times haven't you seen "vectors" that are bad brush drawings using simple base colours? You can talk about artistic integrity, lack of soul and what not, but that's got nothing to do with vectors, that's got to do with what you decide to make and how you want it to be and what purpose it's supposed to serve. Vectoring is hard in it's own way, even when tracing it can be hard to make a good end product because you limit yourself to a very limited shading technology. It's 3 choices: 1) Cel-shading-like. One base, one dark and one light (and inbetweens if you can bother). 2) Gradients. One base colour and then shapes with different gradients. 3) 3D mesh shading. One shape and a grid that you make points on and decide what colour that point should have resulting in a more, yet less, controlled gradient that follows a 3D 2D grid. And of course, a free mix with any of the 3.

It really distracts the eye.
What's with the random bright patch of grass on the right? It really distracts the eye.
As I said above any bit with black lines is not finished yet. That colour is just left over from when I was putting down block colours to get a feel of the composition.
I fucking love snow
I love Stale's hat and that art style.
As I said above any bit with black lines is not finished yet. That colour is just left over from when I was putting down block colours to get a feel of the composition.
Oh sorry, missed that. Well more like forgot.

You can reset your HD to a former state, which should bring back your pictures.
You can reset your HD to a former state, which should bring back your pictures.
Its a flashdrive
