OH god that rifle has worse ergonomics than slavshit. How can it chamber that huge round without a reciver or anything. There's literally no room at all for internals.

Looking at pictures of real guns really helps, for example, your gun resembles an VSS Vintorez. It might not be the best gun to study since its design is a bit unorthodox but you'll notice where the mass of its components are.

Notice how the part where the handle and the magazine are attached to is one big block, it's called the receiver and it's built that sturdy because it needs to resist the explosion that happens inside it.
There also needs to be enough space above the magazine (not necessarily right on top of it though) for the bolt to move back, eject the last round and move forward again. It's usually pretty bulky.
Building a library of different and interesting gun designs always helps, I've got hundreds. ;) There's also a weapon design video tutorial from El Coro from Massive Black who goes more into the iterative process of designing a gun. I've used a similar iterative process [url=http://pling.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2gqksg]here[/url] for example. :)
I think it might be good if you designed the gun separately from the actual drawing. That way you can pay attention to the design, not just the rendering of it.

Maya, the assault rifle is rape, maybe for that picture, just picture her with just the pistol. The other hand can be supporting the pistol or at her side. Her having both looks unnatural.
My school has a competition to design the new website and I'm in it with a few friends, Made this as a potential Header. I've chosen for the old paper/coal drawing effect-ish because the school building was made around the 15th century or so (not sure):

Well, I gave her an assaulting rifle in the first place because a) she doesn't control her emotion very well and b) she speaks whatever is on her mind without giving any though.
Hence, I think assaulting rifle would be a better candidate, where hand gun is more reserved.

First serious work in Photoshop, still a WIP. Still have a couple errors in coloring that i need to fix, and I haven't started on the horns at all.
Add some more contrast. It's all very light shades at the moment. There's no real shadows there.

I am about 70% done. Another 20% will consist of the other side of the gun and adding a ring and 10% will be the final coat.
That's pretty good although the highlights on the grip's groove things are a bit weird.
I haven't gotten around them yet, I am going to finalise them when I put the halves together. I was thinking about putting tape around it for ultimate future-hobo style.

Shading needs more defined shadows and different materials should have tone differences. Especially when the cloth goes around the arm and where torso and cloth are the same tone.
Also needs folds.
