Right, I've applied to a college away from home to do a science access course hopefully leading to a Chemistry degree. Can I apply for student finance, otherwise i'm fucked.
I'd check if were you, but I don't think you can for college courses in the UK. Maybe look at a chemistry degree with a foundation year, which might offer you the same sort of thing. As a wider issue, if you've a fair bit worse than expected, but did really well at your interview and personal statement, there's a good chance you could go for a foundation course if they offer it, then go for uni. You pay tuition fees for that year, but you'll be locked on the lower tuition fee rate, instead of redoing a year of college then paying extra.
Does anyone know what "Invitation" is on UCAS? I assume it's invitation to interview.
Haha, I was waiting on this! Already got offers from New Port, Wales and Bangor, Wales; Just waiting on UCLAN, Liverpool and Chester to get back to me! Fingers crossed, I got frustrated with my personal statement and since I was trying to get into creative arts I went mad, even managed to fit in smoking cigars on top of Mt Everest in there. Any other facepunchers ever had to talk to a Welsh person? I need a damned translator.

I'm in my second year of A-levels but had to take two new AS levels, due to a majority of my ICT class cheating on the final exam, lots of blame was thrown around and I was hit by it, and I have to stay behind another year, can't complain too much, since I got A-level English and Sociology now which oddly they didn't allow me last year. Otherwise I'd be discussing my damn application with you guys at this very moment. Want to go to London Metropolitan for either animation or film production. Good luck to all those applying this year though.
Just quit 6th form, I'm applying to a Deck Officer Cadet course with the Merchant Navy at South Tyneside college. Pretty much an apprenticeship crossed with a uni course. Sponsorship pays for tuition fees and accomodation, plus you get paid. 6 months at college and 6 months at sea alternating for 3 years, degree at the end and no obligation to join the MN. Captain of your own ship in 10-15 years they reckon. And they're desperate for people atm it seems.
Damnit UK thread [editline]9th February 2011[/editline] I always feel so left out in UK threads.
i am going to take computer sciences cause i like computers

Studentfinance would need contacting as well, ask if your eligible. How much do they charge for your course? you get a tuition loan to pay that every year and then a maintenance loan to cover food/books/rent etc, you might be eligible for a maintenance grant as well.
Lol at all the people here applying for Comp. Sci. with the aim of creating video games. I bet 60-70% of you will be done in the 2 first years (implying you are not aware of how much math it is in Comp. Sci.). Oh well, studying medicine here...
I'm not doing Comp Sci to make games, well... probably not. I know what's involved and what jobs it gets. That's what I'm aiming for. [editline]10th February 2011[/editline]
due to a majority of my ICT class cheating on the final exam
How?
Applied for games concept design at Staffordshire and then I have another 4 choices which I chose just for the sake of it. Currently taking National Diploma Media, Film and Television production so I don't have to worry about exams but I do have a looming deadline for my portfolio. Oh well, studying medicine here...
I came so close to choosing a computer programming course by mistake. I am terrible at maths but I'm pretty good at drawing/painting etc. so I chose the design route instead. Understandably, being succesful in the industry requires skills in modelling, programming and design so I plan to learn programming and modelling in my spare time whilst concentrating on my studies
Applying for Robotics in UWE and Plymouth.
Don't bash UCAS until you've considered what applying would be like without it. It'd be so much more difficult. Personally, I was pretty set on the first universities I looked at (University of Leeds & University of Liverpool). After going to a higher education fair all the prospectuses just began to look the same and I ended up applying to only these two, however I still managed to use all 5 of my choices. I've now got 3/5 offers and 2 interviews (one of which is today and I'm just about finished getting ready to leave for it ) I hit a dilema half way through applying when I realised that I was actually enjoying Chemistry more than Physics at A level and wondered how easy it would be to use my last 2 choices for that course. Turned out all I needed to do was add the choices and change 'physics' to 'the sciences' on my personal statement :P So far the lowest offer I've got is BBB which is perfectly attainable as my predictions are ABB (which is where the rest of my offers are). Conversely I've also got an offer for AAB so I'm patiently waiting for the open day to find out why they made the offer higher than my predictions.
University of the Arts London anyone?
I started in Southampton in October 2009 to study Aeronautics and Astronautics with the school of engineering sciences. My offers I received all had the same entry requirements apart from one which was much lower, so I was really glad to get the place. Moral of the story, pick a range of entry requirements - you don't want your results to decide whether you go to your first choice or your last choice. Southampton is a great uni by the way, very good Electronics and Computer sciences, and a brand new life sciences building last year.

Did my IT and CompSci scholarship exams today for Aberystwyth, went well so hopefully I can get an unconditional :3:
I am so happy right now. I just got back from school and checked Ucas... Now got three unconditionals.
Does anyone have any experience with the BMAT? I think I'll be sitting one in a few years.
I think that everyone that picked Computer Science knew that it has a lot of math. I picked Computer Science mainly for that reason. Math is interesting.
I did it for pretty much the same reason, I was originally going to do maths and was given an unconditional for York but turned it down after my A-levels because I realised that I really did not want to do straight maths. Went into clearing and decided to go to UEA doing a Computing Science course. It is a great thing to do as each module is so different and interesting. So far this year I have done embedded systems (working on mobile phone chips in assembly and C), graphics concentrating on game making in OpenGL, networking that is building a VOIP and security stuff and a more physical module looking at circuits and creating a videoscope. No other course allows that much variety.
I was torn between 3D Animation and Music for ages, but finally went for a music performance degree. Because I'm a classical musician and wanted to go to a conservatoire, I had to apply through UCAS' partner system CUKAS, which was seemingly even more headachingly awkward than the basic UCAS system. I applied to Birmingham Conservatoire, The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and the Royal Nothern College of Music - Got a scholarship to Birmingham, and two E grades in any subject - Got a scholarship to the Royal Welsh, and have to get two C's, one in music - Rejected from Royal Northern. No idea what I got so wrong there. So I accepted my offer for the Welsh, so I'm off to Cardiff in September. I hope to god I can understand the accent...
So frustrating hearing people in school chat on about sorting out accommodation n shit. My first interview isn't until next week.
Just came back from an interview at Leeds and it was great fun. Wasn't really an interview as the guy gave me the offer before I sat down  Lots of interesting people, machines, buildings etc. I really just want my A levels to get out of the way so I can just throw myself in.
When are you supposed to sort out accommodation, anyway? I changed from 2012 to 2011 entry and am worried I'll get into the running late.
When are you supposed to sort out accommodation, anyway? I changed from 2012 to 2011 entry and am worried I'll get into the running late.
It's only february yet, you don't really have to worry about it for months.
How?
Our teacher was a useless cretin, he gave the whole class access to information we weren't supposed to have about the test and told us not to include it in our notes when the exam takes place, guess what near everyone did? And it was bad enough that several people who didn't cheat got screwed over as well. In the end the ICT department got investigated and the examining body questioned everyone involved to find out who was to blame, No one called out the teacher and he got off without even a slap on the wrist, and a fair few students (including ones who did not cheat) had to find new schools and repeat AS entirely. I got lucky that I was able to stay on and continue my other A-level into A2.
I got an interview with Falmouth, WEEEEEEE!
When are you supposed to sort out accommodation, anyway? I changed from 2012 to 2011 entry and am worried I'll get into the running late.
The general gist of university accommodation is if you wanna be on campus it's usually cut off around late spring/early summer, and off campus you could do it the day before your course started if you really wanted to More often than not if you've fucked up and not sorted anything after x date you'll be fine as long as you sort it out in a practical, forward thinking matter, eg. The first few weeks after first term starts a lot of rooms will become available
