but what do we call it I mean now that joshuadim is now raising it and everything
but what do we call it I mean now that joshuadim is now raising it and everything
I wont officially name it so im not devestated if it dies. God knows how many times ive been hurt by animals dying. But maybe in the future [editline]2nd July 2014[/editline] So to do list for now: Add stuff to the nest to make him/her feel at home. Get wet dog/cat food to replace bread/buckwheat paste. Consult an avian expert at a local avian sanctuary/zoo/whatever
keep it! give it a name and raise it. that's what i'd do, at least.
It's sleeping like a hamster with this newfound warmth courtesy of the heat pad :) [editline]2nd July 2014[/editline] Ok now I'm a bit worried. The bird has some of these symptoms shown. Although the article says that it might not be sick, it should be checked out. Vet it tommorow.
Give it a little top hat and teach it to dance. This is the only option if you want it to be happy. Source: I am a bird expert, a crow followed me around this one time
Fed the baby again and gave it some more water. Good night birdy :)
If you can, maybe try and find some worms, crush them up and feed it like it's mother would. Just a suggestion.
If you can, maybe try and find some worms, crush them up and feed it like it's mother would. Just a suggestion.
Worms are a bad idea. They can have parasites in them.
Worms are a bad idea. They can have parasites in them.
Oh, well i'm not sure what else birds are fed.
Day 1 Update Baby has survived his 1st day (yay :D) He/she now has a warm nest to be comfy in He/she is fed on a regular basis (between 45min-1.5hr intervals) Its chances of survival have greatly increased [editline]2nd July 2014[/editline] And with that I'm off to bed
My aunt took care of a baby blue jay recently. She fed the bird cat food, as it had all the protein and nutrition required. But don't overfeed it. Avoid feeding the bird worms or insects, as they may have parasites in them that may kill the bird. It's going to shit everywhere, fyi, so be prepared. I advise calling animal control because they're very prepared to take care of situations like this!
I think you should name it. Sounds like it's going to be okay. Who votes for Leonidas?
I hope you secure him well. You wouldn't want to lose him and have to scrape him out of your dryer lint catcher a month from now.

good morning :) [editline]3rd July 2014[/editline] Just tried to feed the baby but i guess it wasnt hungry (weird) At least it drank some water.
See if perhaps you could sit in the sunlight with it a while. Most baby birds may not, but it may be good for it. Also, get to making phonecalls - 4th of July holiday is comin' soon. edit: my bad, american flag said otherwise.

[editline]3rd July 2014[/editline] The worst part is I dont even know what I did wrong It just... gave up i guess It died peacefully though :(
Oh that sucks. You did your best man. R.I.P Birdy
Oh that sucks. You did your best man. R.I.P Birdy
I feel like total shit now not being able to know what I did wrong. [editline]3rd July 2014[/editline] Whats even more depressing is that he was alive this morning and then he just died. I'm going to bury him soon now
Here's the breakdown. Birdy passed away peacefully between 7AM-8AM EST this morning. I have buried him and he now is someplace better I hope. May he rest in piece.

[editline]3rd July 2014[/editline] Thank you everyone who helped me take care of this little guy to make sure he had someplace nice to sleep before he passed.
Aw poor birdy :(. At least you tried to help him.
This is depressing. :c
This is depressing. :c
Such is life. There are many things that could have gone wrong... internal injuries sustained from the fall, overheating, messed up organic structure, food/liquid aspiration... baby animals, especially of this size, are fragile.
We can rebuild him, we have the technology!
Bit late here but I'll share what I've done in the past. I've had 3 or so robins fall out of nests in unreachable occasions around my house. In each case they were more than a couple days old, and very vocal in their complaints about being handled. I just put them in a box filled with some compressed kindling (literally take dry twigs, sort of organize them, drop them in a box, step on them, then touch it up with your hands by making a depression), and duct taped the box to a tree 10-15 feet from the nest they fell out of. They complained the whole way up, and on one occasion I was actually attacked by the parents when I was trying to put him in the nest after attaching it. I know that 2 made it. The other one vanished a week before I thought he would, so I'm not sure what happened. In general my advice is to see if you can get the parents to feed them. If they have already rejected it, or won't feed him in the new nest, then you have a problem. The parents were quite happy to feed the ones I helped. I have no idea if it was lucky, or if this is normal, but it's worth a try.
I'm just literally in tears here....... Just why......?

If it fell out of it's original nest, I bet my sweet ass it was actually kinda messed up on the inside aswell. Most birds have hollow bones, they break easy as hell.
