http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Dmytruk?wasRedirected=true technically my grandfathers brother but he talked about him so much. Tl:dr for the wiki article is that he was a fucking war hero.
My granddad cleans blockages out of ditchs.
My great grandfather was a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). There's too much shit to type out so I'll quote the Saskatchewan Agricultural Hall of Fame: so yeah he was pretty influential in his area of expertise waaaaay back in the day
show off no one in my family ever did anything cool
My Great Grandfather was in the 1st Infantry Division as a Staff Sergeant and was one of the first soldiers to land on Omaha Beach. He was married at the time and he had his wedding ring on. His ring finger got shot off by a MG42 while he continued to fight through the hedgerows inland; he managed to recover the ring but not his finger. He was lucky enough to be sent back home with 1/2 less of a ring finger.
My grandpa died when I was 12, didn't get to learn much about him.
My great grandfather's house got nuked while he was away in the adjacent province of Okayama
Become president. Change America.
My Grandpa was killing those pesky communist terrorists in Rhodesia.
That's a very appropriate swastika avatar.
:godwin:
My grandpa cooked on a naval boat in WWII. Boring, huh?
my mom's side granddad died while i was too young to remember any of it, and my dad never talked about his father
My Grandma was in Germany when the Soviets were invading, as she was trying to escape, her and much of my extended family was captured and put in prison/camps. Much of my extended family died there. Somehow she got out (not sure) and fled the country. She always talks about how cruel the Russian soldiers were. If you spoke out against them, they would nail your entire families tongues to the dinner table. My grandpa grew up in West Germany which explains why he was pro-Hitler and my grandma from east Germany and she was anti-Hitler.
My great grandfather was an ambulance driver in WWI, he had to go to a hospital after crashing his ambulance. He got TB when he was at the hospital and died from it two years later. My grandfather was in the Royal Air Force, the only time he ever stepped near an airplane was when they needed him to fly out somewhere so he could fill out paperwork...
Both of my grandfathers are dead :saddowns:
My grandfather was a miner in Butte, Montana, one of the first to pioneer welding aluminum as well. Never met him, he died when I was 1. My family will not shut up about how I resemble him.
I'll have to find out some actual stories - there are some, I just can't think of them right now - about my grandfather on my dad's side. One badass thing, though, is that he Great Balls of Fire played at his cremation :v: Cool guy, my grandad.
My grandfather was a military here in sweden and went to dinner with the king and queen many times as he was highly ranked, he even got dubbed by the king
My grandfather was in the Navy on D-Day, Omaha Beach. Here's his dogtag. If anyone knows what the number means, do tell: Edit: Removed, personal Info.
I have one cool grandfather, designed and created helicopters in the 50's. My other grandfather? Not so much.
I asked my dad and grandpa if we had any cool family members. They both said about my Great Uncle who was in MI5. He died a couple of years ago from cancer. I never met him seeing as I live in Canada and him UK, but i still remember the phone call we got when he passed :( My 2nd cousin also works for BBC, and she did the BBC's explosion thing that came out not too long ago.
My grandfathers all died before I was born.
My Mums dad drove Tug boats up and down the River Thames, hauling freight and stuff. My dads Dad was a guard at Buckingham Palace.
My mum's dad lied about his age to join the army. He fought the Japanese in Borneo and Malaya. My dad's dad was a grumpy son of a bitch immigrant from Hungary.
I know my moms grand parents lived through WWII in Germany. Other than that, the other cool person is that my great grandfather was one of the main contributers to making the train engine.
My granddad on my mum's side was a polish engineer and according to my mum, designed jet engines in Britain near the end of WWII.
Some time ago I talked with my grandfather about Poland before and during WWII. He said that when you needed money, you could sell anything to Jews.
Mine are all gone, don't know shit about any of them except my grandpa, who was the last to go and the one I was closest to. My grandpa was born in Canada, he was an electrician inspector (did the work on the major hospital/university in our city), spent the rest of his life with a woman we just recently found out is a complete twat after his first wife and the mother of his children died, he was a stubborn and grumpy old man but very funny, silly and awesome when he was in a good mood. Loved computers and computer games, always gave me his old software and games, although I was over there often enough to play it all anyway. Loved to sing, as did my grandmother (I never met her but that's her legacy), as well as his son, my uncle.
My grandad never fought in WW2 but he developed and tested new radar systems for the british army, my grandma also worked with radars and thats how they met :)
I have no idea if my grandpa from dad's side served, he died when I was just a kid. Apparently he was in the sandblasting industry, did it all without gloves or a mask, like a boss. Mom's side grampaw was in WW2 and served in the Philipines, I have no idea what he did because he doesn't want to talk about it. :frown:
Most of my grandfather's relatives went completely bonkers because of the horrors they witnessed during the Finnish Civil War. He had to leave his home in Karelia as a child due to a little thing called World War II.
