I sorta agree with you, although if we look at video game music chronologically we can see it move from decade to decade moving with musical trends of the time, its really interesting actually late 1980's electro pop (streets of rage ) to late 1990's to the 2000's to today, we can see both the music industry and the movie industry brush off them in terms of musical soundtracks. I find it fascinating and to be frank some of it gives me a nostalgia'gasm.
