I'm not understanding what I'm supposed to see in this, can someone explain?
The top picture (I think) is supposed to be a diversity lounge at GDC, or just GDC in general.
It's looking at race.
oh
I'm starting to think that Tim Schafer is like George Lucas, in that the titles he worked on were great due to the entire team that worked on them, and he gets a disproportional amount of credit.
what's supposed to be special about that picture?
GDC mostly white middle-upper class dudes (and a woman)
Tournament - diverse as fuck
what's supposed to be special about that picture?
GDC = White folk only
FGT = Racially diverse
The top picture (I think) is supposed to be a diversity lounge at GDC, or just GDC in general.

Also the fgc has black waldo.

Don't remind me that there's a tournament called UFGT :v:
Tim is actually a huge sexist in disguise. In one video he implied that women need special "woman friendly" games. Someone tried to argue me there but I still think a statement like that is sexist as fuck and pretty much sends a message that men can enjoy men games and women women games and that each gender needs their own games.
Tim is not only bad with money, he also doesn't know what he's talking about but people listen simply due to his status.
GDC = White folk only

key difference here, tho.
GDC = game developers, press, publishers
FGT = anyone

Nah just more equal representation of women in games. As the protagonist for example. Also women aren't as into killing shit. No idea why.

I don't see how that should matter when one group is claiming to be the diverse group than the other. Even the xoxo comparison paints the same picture.

I like that just because they are dressed formally for a formal event, then that automatically means they are upper-class snobs.
wait, no i dont. i think it's complete hogwash and really unfair.
like that comparison is akin to snapping a photo of the Oscars and then snapping a photo of a comedy show and putting them next together and going "huehuehue snobs"

A reminder why RunningWithScissors is the best development team.

And hell, why is the fighting game pro scene so much more diverse than any other esports scene, let's take sc2 for example, I can think of like one black dude in the entire pro scene, and can only think of one trans person, who gets shit constantly, while recently a fighting game pro came out as trans and pmuch every comment from pro and casual alike were positive.

From the person who posted the image:
Anti-gamergate has attempted to paint the opposition as white pasty misogynist nerds and Xbox Live racists trying to oppress minorities -- to deflect from pro-gamergate's actual goal of rooting out corruption in gaming journalism and game development.
Minority members came out in support with #notyourshield on Twitter, people of colour, women, non-hetero people, any combination of the above and so on, tweeted that anti-gamergate could not speak for them as a silent majority. Anti-gg has basically claimed them to be either brainwashed and acting according to "internalized misogyny/racism" (i.e. for being "too dumb" to pick the "right" side of the argument) or flat out sockpuppets as a way of denying the clear and persistent photographic proof.
You think there are poor/lower class people at GDC? Unless it's right in your hometown, you won't be able to afford everything needed for the trip.
Nah just more equal representation of women in games. As the protagonist for example. Also women aren't as into killing shit. No idea why.
Some men also aren't. Does that make them women or means they should play "women" games? It's the whole "men are this women are that" argument. Aren't we past that yet?

The point is hating on people because they are wearing a suit at a formal event is ridiculous
it's not about the observation that they're upper-class, it's about the implication that GDC attenders are snobs for no reason other than "look at us with our tshirts and them with their ties... dicks"
I almost feel bad for him, he probably knows that seeing as Lucasarts is gone and he can't afford to keep screwing up with funding, he will probably never be able to relive the glory days of working on ye olden P&C games.
From the person who posted the image:
my initial point wasn't super good, sorry
but my beef with that picture is that a single picture from the back part of a panel at GDC, which is attended mostly by the press, publishers, and investors, is obviously going to look way less diverse if you compare it to a picture from a completely different event with hundreds of people in it, people part of a completely different demographic. the fg community is one of the most diverse groups out there. i'm not super educated about the whole deal, it but i think it mostly has to do with a bunch of kids in lower income areas going to arcades or laundry places with arcade machines.

Ah, i think this demographic you're referring to is called "gamers", which is what Schafer and his buddies were demonizing at the GDC.

Hating? What? The point is GDC is not diverse. I don't see anyone hating anything?
Hating? What? The point is GDC is not diverse. I don't see anyone hating anything?
If that's the point then it's dumb and doesn't really make any sense.
Milkandcooki words it greatly.

he was making fun of gamergate, which makes up for probably less than 1% of all gamers (of which there are millions.)
he wouldn't be a game developer if he hated the gamers as much as you think he does.
Seeing Tim Schafer now I'm glad I've never bought any of his games.
it's not about the observation that they're upper-class, it's about the implication that GDC attenders are snobs for no reason other than "look at us with our tshirts and them with their ties... dicks"
Wanna point out where anyone implied ANYTHING like that? It feels like you're arguing just for the sake of arguing.
Seeing Tim Schafer now I'm glad I've never bought any of his games.
You shouldn't be. You're seriously missing out, even if Tim Schafer is currently acting like a bell-end.

Really, REALLY depends on how you stretch the term gamer. Include mobile games and you get 1.2 billion gamers.
I know however that there are more people who don't appreciate this kind of joke than there are people who do. Furthermore idc if he's trying to make fun of gamergate when he's clearly attacking outspoken minorities, like what kind of a joke is there to have.
That seems more like he's incompetent than he's a bad person though. He's an artist who's in a position where he has to deal with finances and he doesn't really know what he's doing.
I don't think he's a bad person for the way he runs his business. It's mismanagement. I think it becomes reprehensible going out and using people's money for a project, going in fully knowing that every game you have worked on has missed milestone after milestone and has gone over budget.
The way he speaks about his customers is ridiculous. I'm not going to be buying any of his games, except for Grim Fandango when it's like 50 cents in five years.
You shouldn't be. You're seriously missing out, even if Tim Schafer is currently acting like a bell-end.
I want to play Grim Fandango so badly but I don't want to give Tim Schafer money.

"Making fun of women and minorities is clearly ok if they support gamergate"
You shouldn't be. You're seriously missing out, even if Tim Schafer is currently acting like a bell-end.
I'm not that interested in them, plus knowing he made them gives it a sour taste.
"Making fun of women and minorities is clearly ok if they support gamergate"
Making fun of people if they've done nothing wrong is not okay. Especially when it comes to gender or race. Tim's joke was tasteless and he's an idiot for even thinking it was a good idea.
Tim is the sort of feminist who actually damages his supposed cause.

Maybe 1% of gamers identify as gamergate but who isn't sick of Polygon and Kotaku? Every time you go on the Facebook comments? How many people would be okay with what Leigh Alexander, Ben Kuchera and Adam Sessler have to say about them? How many people see through Brianna Wu, Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkeesian's bullshit?
Probably a minority, but that minority consists of enthusiasts and enthusiasts are an important part of this industry.
