enthusiasts are an important part of this industry.
Sadly profit charts prove otherwise.
I want to play Grim Fandango so badly but I don't want to give Tim Schafer money.
check this out, not the same as playing it but you get pretty much the entire experience since the gameplay is nothing to write home about
Maybe 1% of gamers identify as gamergate but who isn't sick of Polygon and Kotaku? Every time you go on the Facebook comments? How many people would be okay with what Leigh Alexander, Ben Kuchera and Adam Sessler have to say about them? How many people see through Brianna Wu, Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkeesian's bullshit?
Probably a minority, but that minority consists of enthusiasts and enthusiasts are an important part of this industry.
i like adam sessler
just because he's like the uncharming simon cowell of video games
well that's how I remember him anyway from when I used to watch g4 in like 2006-2007

Sessler was the shit, Keyword Was, now..not so much.
I'm glad Sessler is off the scene. No idea what made him change so drastically but he went full on shining armor so suddenly.

sad to hear
crazy how kotick was actually right
I don't think he's ever been wrong, it's just that we didn't want him to be right.
Just digging the grave Tim.
Imagine swinging at a target as massive as gamergate and smashing into a bunch of minorities instead.
gj.
he was making fun of gamergate, which makes up for probably less than 1% of all gamers (of which there are millions.)
he wouldn't be a game developer if he hated the gamers as much as you think he does.
He was making fun of minorities who hashtagged notyourshield.
He was making fun of minorities who hashtagged notyourshield.
He probably thought he was making fun of GG.
But in any case his behaviour was immensely unprofessional, and quite honestly really petty and childish, imo.
He was making fun of minorities who hashtagged notyourshield.
notyourshield, which is a gamergate hashtag. Notyourshielders are still gamergaters. Shafer's intent was clear regardless of how awful his joke was.

Glad we can agree that Tim is racist.

You can have a problem with a movement without personally disliking everybody in it for who they are, dude.
You can have a problem with a movement without personally disliking everybody in it for who they are, dude.
Tim doesn't think that way.
You can have a problem with a movement without personally disliking everybody in it for who they are, dude.
I know that's why Tim specifically called out notyourshield.
I know that's why Tim specifically called out notyourshield.
So this is suddenly about Tim announcing how much of a big racist he is, not him poking at GG?
So this is suddenly about Tim announcing how much of a big racist he is, not him poking at GG?
In this situation you really can't have one without the other.
Since he attempted to poke fun at GG by being racist.
So this is suddenly about Tim announcing how much of a big racist he is, not him poking at GG?
Well the joke poked at both.
So this is suddenly about Tim announcing how much of a big racist he is, not him poking at GG?
are you trying to defend him or what
dont tell me you're aGG or something and legit believe he isnt a dick for saying this
So this is suddenly about Tim announcing how much of a big racist he is, not him poking at GG?
Yes, because saying women and people of other races are straight white men is totally okay as a joke.
You can have a problem with a movement without personally disliking everybody in it for who they are, dude.
Then call out the harassers for what they are. They're anonymous assholes doing what anonymous assholes do and they're masquerading as #gamergate supporters in order to troll the hell out of both sides.
Are there some gamergate supporters that truly hate women and don't want them in the industry beyond the position of a receptionist? Sure. Is it enough to justify calling #GamerGate a misogynistic campaign? Certainly not.
If we're going to judge entire groups of people based on the worst people involved with them, that sets a dangerous and unacceptable view of people in society. If we're going to use that kind of logic, every single stereotype about gender, ethnicity, sexuality, culture and religion are true.
So this is suddenly about Tim announcing how much of a big racist he is, not him poking at GG?
I wouldn't call him a racist but at the very least, I'd say he's being incredibly offensive by not accepting that #GamerGate is extremely diverse when it comes to gender, nationality and sexual orientation. Also, he's not respecting people as individuals and I don't think anyone should ever behave like that in polite society, especially in a professional environment.
crazy how kotick was actually right
I never really paid attention to Kotick, what did he actually say?
a couple years ago, Shafer said Kotick was an ass, Kotick responded that Schafer was terrible with managing money and that he didn't trust the man with running a business.
Schafer's rep wasn't ruined at the time, and gamers hated Kotick for representing Activision Blizzard. Lotta people gave Kotick shit for it.
2014-15 rolls around and Shafer fucks up 2 games and now this mess. Kotick was right.
Corrected that, can't forget Shafer fired the first shot & Kotick hasn't fucked up 2 games this year.
The 3.3 million man!

>>>>> Forgive me if this post isn't coherent, I just found out I got fired from my job in the middle of writing it so I'm not really in the right mood to go over it or keep posting here. Think I'll actually bug out of FP for the rest of the day, so if you wanna continue to have a not-mean-not-angry debate about gamergate, contact me on skype or steam. You guys aren't as bad as the idiots who have told me to kill myself on twitter so I'd like to hear from you <<<<<
This is where I disagree with you. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a misogynistic campaign, though. Bear with me for a sec tho.
In a general, basic way, GG's goals are pretty admirable. Ethical journalism, cool. I want that, I want clean journalism.
A bunch of petty trolls polluting the tag is one thing that happens with any major hashtag, but when you have MASSIVE (i excluded people with less than a few thousand followers because then this list would be as long as the Odyssey) gamergate figureheads saying shit like THIS

(above two are in response to jim posting an article about protecting trans people)
... without being called out, denounced, or told to shut up on a large scale, that's when I refuse to support the hashtag. Conceptually, I think notyourshield and GG are great, but in practice I don't see anythign positive at all. I think the core problem with the negative people behind gamergate is that they assume anyone who's critical of or against gamergate is arguing in bad faith.
What I think needs to happen is some large scale denouncement of scumbags like roguestar and milo, while lifting up the cool gamergate guys (who do exist, don't misinterpret my post) like boogie.
Keep in mind that this is all from what I have experienced from gamergate on twitter, not on sites like FP. If there's some bizarro strain of cool gamergaters that hate the shmucks I posted pictures of, hook me up.
Of course twitter has trolls. But I don't think that damns the entire movement.
I don't know who RogueStarGamez is.
It'd be nice if Gamergate as a whole ejected Milo. He's a toxic individual and outing GameJournalPros is not enough to outweigh all of the other terrible things he's done/said.
That really sucks about your job, man. Internet arguments aside, I hope things work out for you.
