david seems to stop being scary and more annoying towards the end (ex. blocking the jumps, mowing them down with machine guns, ect.)

But yeah, I agree. He just made it very inconvenient and wasted a whole lot of time just blocking their way.
It's because we're already used to him, and watching this in a light, comical way. The jump blocks would very scarywere we in the proper setting, not to speak of the anticipation for the next jump.
Anyway, I didn't really get the end. Was david insane and they were only part of his imagination, and, like he did to 27 other people, he was enjoying torturing barley and spike until his victims eventually get the better of him and force him to kill himself?
