Wow TH89 can you maybe enlighten me on some tasty rap, I haven't put THAT much effort into finding rap No gangsta rap though please if you would be so kind
You would probably like Jurassic 5 (I don't though) [editline]15th April 2011[/editline] heh :smug: [editline]15th April 2011[/editline]
OFWGKTA Das Racist JJ Demon Slick Ross Dropping A Popped Locket (maaaaaaaaybe)
Can't really cosign these. When you're making recs you need to look at what the person likes already, not just list your favorite stuff. Nonikai likes the Sugar Hill Gang (or at least the one Sugar Hill Gang song he's heard). What are the defining characteristics of the Sugar Hill Gang? -old school -goofy -funky -non-threatening -lyrically simplistic Now let's look at the defining characteristics of OFWGKTA songs -threatening -aggressive -harsh -profane & vulgar -violent -lyrically complex I don't see any similarities here. How about Das Racist? -surrealistic -hyper-referential -goofy -political -deconstructionist -lyrically complex Maybe a little bit, but I'm guessing most of the references to race politics and other hip hop songs are going to fly right over his head, because he hasn't listened to very much hip hop. I don't recognize the other ones but you see where I'm going with this. Dudes who dismiss anything with aggressive people of color as "gangsta" aren't going to respond well to exactly that, if you want to get them into hip hop you have to rec things that are cuddly and corny first so they can learn about good flows and good beats and learn to appreciate the music before moving on to the stuff with scary black people in it
Now let's look at the defining characteristics of OFWGKTA songs -threatening -aggressive -harsh -profane & vulgar -violent -lyrically complex
Not entirely true. Look at the song I posted earlier on this page.
Well if it helps anything I do like simon says but just for the beats really I also don't mind a bit of Das Racist after looking at them
You would probably like Jurassic 5 (I don't though)
You did like a year or two ago :( Oh well Jurassic 5 ITT

Is that true? Dunno but I'm still cookin' my swag stew.
I've really started liking Childish Gambino thought his voice was kind of annoying at first but it grew on me.

His lyrical quality is unbeaten, as far as I'm concerned.

have another good song with Bun B in it In other news, if you don't know who Devin Miles is, look him up. He's an up-and-comer out of PA (which puts out all kinds of good rappers), and he's got great flow, lyrics, and, as yet, production quality. Here's his mixtape, Finding My Own.
