What's with the hate on Nicki? She's a pretty good rapper.

I dislike Nicki Minaj for her lyrics, she doesn't seem to put a lot of effort into them, she just rhymes. She'll rap about the most random shit, it's like she just thought of a word just to make it rhyme-not to maintain a point, and that annoys me.
her bit on monster was so fucking raw
That was the first of her work I heard, but I've been told her album is basically just whoring herself out, which makes me sad. [editline]16th January 2011[/editline] And listening to her shit posted a bit above, it is pretty lazy and mediocre.
Pink Friday didn't really do anything for me, and I found the mixtape stuff I've heard to be a bit hit and miss with me. [editline]16th January 2011[/editline] but fuck she tore it up on monster
Facepunch mindset: Old rap had substance and soul. New rap is overrun with shit and meaningless garbage.
Facepunch mindset: Old rap had substance and soul. New rap is overrun with shit and meaningless garbage.
More or less true.
More or less true.
What the mindset part or the actual statement itself. [editline]16th January 2011[/editline]
Pink Friday didn't really do anything for me, and I found the mixtape stuff I've heard to be a bit hit and miss with me.
That is the general thing about mixtapes. They're (usually not) supposed to be studio quality top notch produced pieces of work ready to sell.
What the mindset part or the actual statement itself.
It's the correct mindset.
It's the correct mindset.
I still don't understand. You agree with the mindset, or you agree that is the general mindset of facepunch?
Every once in a while new rap amazes us
Every once in a while new rap amazes us
Yes it is true, we still have artists that stay true to the genre and make raw music. But we have so many artists that are in it for the fame, and are not loyal to what rap truly is.
i don't know if you guys heard of jay electronica, hes fairly new and he is very very different from any other rapper, and its amazing. i'm sure alot of you would like him a lot. check him out:
My favorite
You guys are over analyzing shit. Rap is about the same shit it was always about. You just aren't very good at separating or finding good stuff.
Listen to this, and compare it to modern hiphop, and even Eminem's new stuff. (the first one to be compared to Eminem's new stuff, second is just an example of the good stuff.) What happened? I mean, I know Eminem went through drugs and whatnot, and perhaps that effected his lyricism (not much obviously) but...it pains me to see shit like "Like a G6" on the radio when that should be playing. The beat is pure sex and the words are sex in lyrical form, I want that top the charts and not this bullshit that is currently doing it. But hey, gotta appeal to the main demographic....horny teenagers with no real sense of music in my opinion. :ohdear:
I hate to admit it but I found Eminem's newer albums to be... bad. He hasn't changed his subject matter, it's just how it'd produced, it's less wacky and upbeat, with that dark humor, and more "Studio" I can't think of a better word, it feels like they made everything really fast in a studio I guess. Every song on Recovery was followed by (Feat. X) or (Prod. by Y) it was a new person every song, I barely recognized most of them, the few I did still didn't really deliver, maybe two of the songs were alright that were made along with another person. Then again I usually had 4-5 songs I liked on each of his CD's, including his latest ones, though the others just were bad in my opinion, they felt like filler. His old albums you just didn't like it or you did, just because it was or wasn't your thing.
His new albums are awesome IMO.
horny teenagers with no real sense of music in my opinion. :ohdear:
that was the entire fanbase of eminem
I hate how everyone has to ride eminem's dick all the time. He's a good artist among the slew of crappier rap we have today, but he's not like the godsend of rap, he's one of numerous good rappers.
Well...back on topic then. My friend has been rapping for quite some time now, but he's finally getting to that stage where a lot of the stuff he makes is starting to sound pretty good. He's had a rough time coming up in high school and with girls and rap is his get-a-way. Please support him and C+C! http://www.youtube.com/user/G0LDENG He's posting more eventually, and he does have a soundcloud as well: http://soundcloud.com/golden-g Thanks!

Yeah, they weren't off topic. But he is pretty good for a high schooler. He should keep at it.

Yeah, he should look into buying some beats (leasing I guess as most would call it.) Pretty much you pay about $30 for a decent beat. They give you the wav file which allows for some high quality productions. He should also find a friend who is into production to mix and master it for him.
Any good tutorials for mixing and mastering?

As for the mindset, of "Old rap had substance and soul. New rap is overrun with shit and meaningless garbage." That mindset is right, ever since the early 90's when Hip-Hop/rap became mainstream, it has become garbage pop music. Sure there's some good music that gets made, but that's slowly deteriorating because that isn't what makes money anymore. It's a backwards fucked up music industry where shitty rappers get lame club-banger production and good rappers/producers struggle to make a living while making better music. Example: G6- These people have no business rapping (45 million views) Blu+ Flying Lotus, one of the best new rappers and one of the best producers pump out a good song (33thousand views) Bluzy
