Looking at the responses to this thread, I'm not suprised I'm stared down by every single bypasser whenever I go out and skate (or longboard should I say) They really do look in disbelief as if I'm Satan himself. One time a guy in a van (he wasn't a pedo, I don't think) asked about my board because no one in my area has ever seen a longboard.
I find it best just to ingore people who judge me because I skate.

Yeah as I said before ABEC rating is how perfectly round the ball bearings are. But that doesn't exactly mean Abec 3 will be horrible egg shaped rocks, they'll still be nice balls so it barely makes a difference. Well it depends what you're doing but it doesn't really matter for anything I do on a board.
Tried to skate when I was much younger, because the cool kids across the road were all doing it, I managed to ollie then kinda got bored, this was before our town got a skatepark built. I'd try again but it takes effort and money to get a new board and shit, plus, it'd take me a while to get my balance back because I've grown about a foot in the past year. But even still if a friend has a skateboard out, I'm still able to ollie about 2 inches off the ground :smug:
I skateboard because it's the only activity I can do successfully that involves getting my lazy ass outside.
I do a lot of skate.... on Tony Hawk's games. Seriously, those rock.
Other than that I tried it once irl, and fell.
WTF is whit you guys getting hurt, are you a bunch of pussies, just take it like a man, and chicks dig scars.
I love skateboarding! I've got an old school board....very 90's
I find it quite cool to see people skateboarding. 'Skateboarders' here aren't emo's or idiots and they like getting seen by other people. So yeah, I just like to watch them, not doing it myself. I once tried standing straight on a skateboard. It was a groundbreaking experience :(
Just don't even start trying, from what I've seen most skateboarders are either emo or douchebags.
I have friends that skate, and they are annoying as shit.

Your choice of hobbies doesn't dictate who you are. Your friends are cocksuckers to begin with. Or you're a judgmental prick.
It's pretty depressing that any thread about a unique hobby is frowned upon. Then again, considering the people who go on these forums, it isn't surprising.
Skating can be a tough bitch to learn. I hate how most "skaters" I see at my school are just a bunch of emo faggots sitting on their asses, NOT ACTUALLY SKATING, trying to act moody and cool. I give props to whoever is a real skater, though. It takes dedication to do that stuff.
Skateboarding wouldn't be that bad its the faggot bitchs who ride them.
A few of my friends skate pretty well but I don't. I enjoy just chilling out, watching and take a few pictures every now and again. S'all good, I have tried and I would if I could but I'd have to dedicate time and pain towards learning properly and I'm pretty content with just watching really.
Well, in our school in the 12th class in the business class section, we have to create a project. Like an event or something and it's evaluated by professors.
My idea was to organize a Skaterevent at an awesome skate park. We even had some contact with a group who plan the biggest skate event in our country.
Was cool and all until I realized that our project failt because Skaters are lazy faggots, they gave a shit about us.
Althought not all skaters are idiots.
But the "new" skaters are seriously dumb.
I used to think skateboarding was cool and I would be cool by skateboarding.
But then I grew up and entered the third grade.
Despite living in West London, none of the skaters I know are emo douchebags. I mean they dress quite hipster-emo-ish, but they can skate pretty damn good and they're good guys in person, a friend and I asked them if we could take pictures of them for our art project, and we went to camden and had a great time.
I quit after all my friends stopped, b/c it's kinda boring doing it alone. And those emo kids just sit around everywhere too, like OP said.
Personally, I think that doing flippy tricks on a skateboard is retarded.
I just enjoy riding one up and down ramps and hills. It's a fun feeling. And I'd rather not longboard, I'm not a huge fan of it.
Damnit, I really want to skate now, haven't skated in about a year now(haven't had the money to get a new board, because I broke my other one.) Anyway, I love skateboarding, gets my lazy ass outside, and kept me in shape. Sense I broke my board, I've put on a few pounds. I hate when people who are good scold people just starting out, calling them posers and shit. It's even worse when people would talk all high and mighty, saying they can do this, and that, but when you see them actually skate, they suck balls. Those are the real posers.
Also most skaters around here are emo/scene/skinny jean wearing assholes who think there the best.
Fuck yeah! I love threads like these... I've been skating almost 2 years now, and I fucking love it... However, since the start of this year, I have worked up the courage to actually do shit off of gaps and ledges, however this has led to me already on my 5th fucking deck this year already - Plan B, Blind, Flip, Blind, Baker.
My lovely flip deck that I snapped 3 days after getting it...

My Blind Indestructible, snapped it on friday.

and heres my newest deck... Worth £55, but got it for a fucking fiver.... Went into a shop and I bought some new grip for an old shitty deck I had, and my mate bought a new blank deck. We went out the back to grip the decks/put trucks on, and there was only one shop keeper in, and she was busy... So I naturally grabbed this sweet thing out of a metal bin full of decks, gripped it, put my trucks on it and put my old deck in the bin with the other new decks, then walked out again... So sweet..

shit, it's a shame you snapped those sexy looking boards.
Yeah... pisses me off when they snap, but grabbing a brand new deck and getting away with it made me feel happy.
Heres a random 20 sec video I made yesterday because the weather was nice

I love baker decks. The Jim Greco one my girlfriend bought me for our anniversary :3
Sweet plan B deck Imaledgev2, I had a Colin Mckay pro model one but 8.25's are too big for my liking.
I buy blank decks off blackdecks.com. So much cheaper, and they feel about the same.
I remember my first blacklabel deck then moving on to paying for 2nd hand boards
The most fun I had was removing the trucks and getting on a trampoline with the deck to do tricks with friends. Not skating but those memories still own
I started skating a month or two ago, looking for something else to do. It's pretty fun aside from every other asshole skater kid acting up with me. I try to stay away from that crowd anyway. The local skate park is full of dickheaded motherfuckers standing around and smoking and kickin' it to some 13 year old girls. And the streets and sidewalks where I live kind of suck. So it's pretty difficult.
Been skating on and off for about 8 years, still love it as much as when I first learnt to ollie.
Skateboarding is as fun as running up steps.
Skating almost 11 years. After you get better at it and have a car and such it becomes allot more fun going around to different parks and spots. Filming either for fun to trying to go somewhere with it is great. I don't think you should even start if you don't really like skating or just want to become a pro for money.
Skated with some random people today. Trying to get back in the groove.

And that is coming from the perspective from someone who doesn't like skating. It's alright to not like it, but it doesn't make sense to say that no one can like it.
I used to skate, could do much more than an ollie, then I tried dropping in. I still have a 1 inch-by-1 inch bruise on my right elbow.
But that was but a stage and now I just like to longboard.

One thing I didn't like and still don't like about skating is the overuse of brand name logos.
I adore skate boarding, I just love it something about trying all day to tre flip(360 kickflip) that one 5 stair and then finally landing is the greatest feeling in the world.
