I can surf, ski, snowboard, and all that shit, but whenever I get on a skateboard I fall straight on my ass.
Its not for me.
Skating almost 11 years. After you get better at it and have a car and such it becomes allot more fun going around to different parks and spots. Filming either for fun to trying to go somewhere with it is great. I don't think you should even start if you don't really like skating or just want to become a pro for money.
Once you get a car what the fuck do you need a skateboard for?
I hate both skateboarders and BMXers. Skateboarders = Emo. BMXers = Chavs.
Deal with it.
I kind of agree. Know nice people from both areas tough.
I've been thinking about this, should I really get into it?

Is it a decent mode of transport?
It's a decent mode of transport if you live in a built up urban area and the group is smooth. On the other hand, you will get labelled as a skater who is against society, hates everyone and people will look down on you.
Atm i'm trying to nail Varial Heelflips, and working on frontside varial heels aswell, cool shit
Ive been skating for 3 years, and I've loved every second of it.
I first started skating because my mate let him borrow his deck, and a managed to pull off an ollie after about 10 mins, then It all started from there... Also, after about half a year of skating I went through a very dodgy and horrible period with my ex-girlfriend and I lost almost all my friends because I was paranoid as fuck, my life was in ruins, and instead of cutting myself or turning to drugs for an escape, I concentrated so much more on skating, and that was all I did, skate, skate and skate to take my mind off of life... It made me a better person and a better skater!
Every skating thread everyone always complains about emo posers but where i live we dont have any. Though the posers are ratted out quickly and then shunned but actual newbies are generally helped.
There were more skaters in my neighbourhood before, but now it's basicly just me and my two mates. We go on roadtrips to other cities weekly though. Vert skating is awesome when we push each others to learn stuff.
Also, not all skateboarders are assholes towards everyone and just sit around. The two guys who actually got me into skating when I was 12 or so were really nice towards me, it's a shame they moved away.
I skate http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mw6_MCmtePM&feature=related (am the last guy in the vid)
I prefer "skating" by which I mean rollerblades :)
Also, what music do you like skateboarding to? ELO is amazing to listen to for me.

To drive to places that have rails or stairs or slopes.
I want to go on a long distance longboard trip. Seems fun.
Skateboards piss me off when I fall on my ass.
I skate with some of my friends, I really hate going to the skatepark because of all the faggy emo poser kids who sit around and do nothing (as others have stated). We're just regular guys we aren't emos or anything and we just skate. Now that it's getting warmer outside I need to skate again, but my skateboard is fucked from last year. (Snapped in half, borrowed friends but can't use it anymore.)
Also what's with all the haters? Don't post if you're just going to hate on skateboarding. And to the person who said it isn't fun, to you it may not be, I find it fun. Sounds like you guys are just jealous that people actually go outside on this forum unlike you who just sits inside acting tough over the internet.
I used to skateboard back when the Tony Hawks games were reeeally popular (like, the THPS3 days) but I just grew out/got bored of it.
Yeah same here, but I couldn't do anything impressive and I got bored.
