German is pretty easy.

Ich glaube, du wolltest ,,Englisch ist fünfunddreißig Prozent von der deutsche Sprache" sagen.
German was around before English was. Wikipedia:

Wow, rated informative. I'd really love to learn a new language, did German at school but I'm terrible at taking it in.
Some day I'll get around to finishing learning Mandarin, after my final year of school nobody had learnt the language to a decent level really.
I used Rosetta Stone level 1 Russian. It was really easy and I learned it in about a day. It was a great tool.
You wrote all of that?
Yes.
Nice guide. I'm learning Spanish. In September I'll be back at uni where I have a Spanish friend which is cool, eventually we'll be able to say things to each other without anyone else knowing what we said.

:golfclap: Very nice good sir.
Excellent Tutorial on learning new languages, I think I might refer to it when I am learning a new language.
Just added section 3 on learning about the country. Now that the guide is pretty much finished, I hope you guys will find this stuff useful. Thanks again for all the comments :eng101:
I just signed up for an account on the Deutsche Welle website and it's pretty good.
try learning a non-alphabet language.
like chinese. or japanese.
it's a totally different monster. I wish I still had the youthful nerve to learn a language, but years of grade school hammering has left me with a distate for learning languages.
I wish it had'nt been that way. multiple lanaguages are cool. :'(
Learn Chinese? I've had it as a major class at my high school and I can safely say, unless you stay 1-3 years in China, you will never ever learn it. The amount of work needed to learn it is simply amazing, and without any spirit, you will die in learning it.
Excellent post! I might just have to relearn the little German I forgot from high school, such a beautiful language.
I'm bumping to announce a huge update. Highlights include:
1. New section titled "Use the Language"
2. Around 150+ links for 11 languages other than German
3. Downloadable .pdf
See the OP for more details.
What the... I'd probably know the language fluently before I'm done finishing the thread.
Thanks...?
:ohdear:
I'm learning Spanish Year 3 at the moment and I seem to be doing alright.
If I fall behind, I'll be sure to check this, great work!
I must say, I've never fallen asleep reading a thread before. You know, I might add, I generally never thought I'd fall asleep reading, but...
Well done OP!
Awesome thread, very helpful. Great job.
Dear God that is huge. Didnt read now, will save for later if needed. Thanks OP
Came into this thread expecting an ad-bot.
Was pleasantly surprised. What an OP, fuck
Thank you for compiling all of this.
I am attempting at learning Czech.
Alternatively, you can speak to foreigners in English, loudly and slowly.
Edit: Also, use vague hand gestures and talk in a fake accent.
I've been learning french on and off. One HUGE advantage though is that I have lived in Quebec most of my life, so I'm used to seeing and hearing the language. Still, it is damn hard to learn a new language, harder for some than others (especially a language as willfully conservative as french is :/) Those who haven't been around the language they're trying to learn face even larger hurdles than I do so... good luck everyone!
Great thread OP, this is an excellent resource.
What the shit that's a lot of text.
Sorry, I tried to include as many pictures as possible to balance it out without it getting too huge.
Eh what the hell it was huge to begin with :v: .
