It was my roommate's phone. It normally doesn't have a problem at all recording gunfire, but indoors + 7.62x54R + carbine-length weapon produced a heck of a report.
Sounds like you had fun. When my friend brought his M44 to the range, it was louder then the .50 someone had brought in. (Outdoor range.)
I want to bring my M44 to an indoor range, sucks theres none around here.
I want to bring my M44 to an indoor range, sucks theres none around here.
not really, i prefer outdoor ranges for most long gunnin.
I want to bring my M44 to an indoor range, sucks theres none around here.
The only reason I was able to shoot the M44 was that I had thirty rounds of non-steel-core ammo. All the surplus I can find nowadays is steel-core FMJ, and indoor ranges don't like it.
Why do ranges hate steel core anyways?
Are crossbows welcome here?
Ruins the backstop and causes fires, apparently.
It shoots .38 S&W, they still make them commercially but the only place I found it is online.
You have a Cabela's near you? That's basically all mine has had in the way of handgun ammo since December.
Why do ranges hate steel core anyways?
Like commie said, it destroys the backstop and puts holes in steel targets. They also hate it cause the stuff sometimes isn't brass cased, which typically means it's harder to reload, so ranges can't steel your casings and resell them.
Are crossbows welcome here?
Kind of
Why do people bother selling them then?
Because its what the Russians made a shitton of, so its cheap
Why do people bother selling them then?
880 rounds of 54r costs about 140-160$. 2160 rounds of 5.45x39 costs like 3-400 bucks. You can't really beat that price.
Why do people bother selling them then?
Because not everyone goes to such shitty ranges? Some people go to decent ranges, others shoot on private property
You have a Cabela's near you? That's basically all mine has had in the way of handgun ammo since December.
We have a Gander Mountain, last time I stopped there was like 2 months ago and they were bone dry.

Kind of
Reload surplus 7.62x54R? Most surplus is berdan primed, so unless the range is going to go out of their way to reload that they'll probably just turn it in for scrap.

I love that because it's so childish and yet so true. Anyone have a series 70 1911? I never really cared much for the classic 1911 design, but now I want to get one and slap a great pair of VZ grips on it.
Why do people bother selling them then?
Because most outdoor ranges don't give a fuck, and some indoor ones don't either.
Any Maryland'ers know of ranges that allow steel core near Dundalk or Hampstead areas?
5,45 still is that laughably cheap? Welp. What does 7,62x39 go for?
you used to be able to buy a box of wolf or tulammo 7.62x39 for 4-6$ a box before the panic buying started. It's been a while since I've seen actual surplus 7.62x39, but then again I haven't been looking for it either.

Where I live all you can get is either Barnaul or Sellier & Bellot. Pretty steep prices, $12 for a box of Barnaul 7,62x39 123gr FMJ usually.
Just picked up a Remington 1911 R1, going to the range tomorrow to break it in
Any Maryland'ers know of ranges that allow steel core near Dundalk or Hampstead areas?
Not familiar enough with that specific area to comment on Hampstead, unfortunately. If I remember correctly, there might be one in Frederick, and there could be one in New Castle PA, but I've only been to West Minster to visit my aunt one or two times, and I'm not stupid enough to carry my guns through that country, except across the border into where we hunt in the boonies.
So, a guy just offered to trade an unfired SL-8 for my RPK Please convince me not to do this Link to his add
My SKS was made in 1972, neat. Finally looked up the serial number. Wonder if it was used in the Balkan wars, but it was still in cosmoline and the stock is perfect so probably not [editline]14th April 2013[/editline]
So, a guy just offered to trade an unfired SL-8 for my RPK Please convince me not to do this Link to his add
I know this isn't what you're looking for but with some more money, you could have a G36. Just saying. And I know I'd love a G36. JUST SAYING
