So, a guy just offered to trade an unfired SL-8 for my RPK Please convince me not to do this Link to his add
Personally, I wouldn't but here's a review on the newer model for you to nit-pick. http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/02/joe-grine/gun-review-hk-sl8-6/
SL-8 is awesome looking, I am jealous.
Kind of depends upon which model it is, though. The neutered, grey US import versions look terrible. SL-8-4/-6 all the way.
I'd do it in a heartbeat.
b-b-b-but I want something in x54r or 5.45. You guys aren't helping!!!!! I'll sleep on it and make a decision tomorrow.
If it was just some AR or whatever then no but dude come on, you literally NEVER see these things.
If you don't like it, sell it afterwards. Not like trading guns in Murricuh is hard. [editline]14th April 2013[/editline] Plus it's always cool to try new stuff.
They make kits for the SL8 to turn it into a G-36, I've seen them for sale in Canada.
Those kits are expensive and converting takes a whole lot of time and dedication.
They make kits for the SL8 to turn it into a G-36, I've seen them for sale in Canada.
Converting the gun can be another $2000, essentially doubling the cost of the gun, not even including shooting it.

I always knew the conversions were pricy but I didn't know THAT pricy. Yeah taking the trade then selling it after then getting a PSL or whatever would be pretty smart. Yeah it might take a little longer but even just for the SL8, that's an expensive fucking gun that you could make a lot off. But the moral of the story is that you should come with me to the gun show 2 weekends from now and help me see if I can trade my 1911 for something cooler.
yeah 5.56 is expensive now, thumbhole stocks fucking suck, and finding magazines will be tough as hell. IIRC SL-8's are also single stack, so 20 round magazines are 30 feet long. It's basically a AWB proof rifle but I still don't really want it. I don't know how much I'd get for it if I hocked it at a pawn shop or try and trade it. Ever even held an SL-8? They're really comfortable, the stock's usable with gloves on too. Also, neutered American SL-8 =/= Europe version SL-8s. Regular ones are double stack.

It's the 27-28th I think, somewhere here in Tally

Regular ones are double stack.
I've never held a thumbhole stock I like. A standard SL-8 is single stack, if you want it to be double stack you have to modify the rifle.
I'm sure you could modify it to take standard mags as well.
I really wouldn't want a rifle I have to modify out of the box to accept normal magazines and have a stock on it that makes sense. If I wanted to turn the rifle into a semi auto, 922r complaint G36, it would take quite a bit of time and effort or a substantial amount of money. If I get the rifle I'm just going to trade it for something else.
I think the SL8s that made it in to Canada before HK stopped exporting used either STANAG or G36 mags, not their own, or nobody would have bought them. Also, the new AWB would ban thumbhole stocks, banning the SL8 too. [editline]14th April 2013[/editline] Apparently some G36s made it into Canada too, they run like $5000-$8000 though, because there was only about a hundred before HK stopped exporting. For some reason HK doesn't export rifles to Canada anymore, only pistols. I hear it's due to German law for some reason.

If the gun's not banned it can be imported, because we don't do stupid things like import bans, we just do stupid things like ban entirely, and none of the SL8, G36, or USC are banned, so it's not Canada's fault.

Only the variants designed for export to the US are single stack.
SL8 (no -#) This is the grey EU and Canada version that has a double-stack magazine, non-vented forearm and a short sight rail. SL8-1 The SL8-1 is the grey US-import version of the rifle. It has a single-stack magazine and its sighting system consists of a long rail with ironsights. The forearm is not vented. SL8-2 Very rare, this version was designed as the new DMR for the German Bundeswehr, although in the end it was not adopted. It was to be issued with bipod and G36 type 3.5× optic. SL8-4 The SL8-4 is a black standard SL8 with vented forearm. SL8-5 The SL8-5 differs from the SL8-4 only in that it uses the same long rail with ironsights as the SL8-1. SL8-6 This is a black SL8-1 with short sight rail and vented forearm. This is the most popular version of this rifle on the US market. SL8-10 A new model with short rail chambered for the .222 Remington cartridge to respect laws that prohibit certain countries' inhabitants from owning weapons in military cartridges. Mostly made for export to Spain, but it is also available in .223 Remington like previous models, to replace the SL8-4.

You are completely wrong. The regular SL-8, as in just SL-8, is double stack. Only the variants designed for export to the US are single stack.
I'm in the US so I thought it should have gone without saying that I was talking about US imported SL-8's, my apologies.
We had a clay shoot yesterday and I brought the Winchester 1897 for a laugh, after the competition was over I took it out and had a few rounds with it. It's tightly choked yet for some reason I seemed to hit the targets quite a bit, it's short barrelled and light so it's easy to track clays but the iron sights are non-existent so it's guess work. I was just pleased that after 100 years the thing is still in full working order, although it has problems ejecting modern plastic ammunition, it needs a bit of a shake. I would love to find old school paper cartridges just for it. also: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=335307541 lol
so yeah that guy with the sl-8 wants 1,800$ along with my RPK for the SL-8. Passing on that one
Oh wow, tell him to go fuck himself We can still goto the gun show and try and sell our guns :-)))
thats the plan now, cya in tally ;)
http://www.armslist.com/posts/1248685/greenville-north-carolina-antiques-for-sale-trade--m1-carbine- I really wish I had an outboard motor right now. [editline]13th April 2013[/editline] Good lord 5 minutes on armslist and now I'm seriously considering grabbing an SKS. How expensive is too expensive for a yugoslavian SKS? [editline]13th April 2013[/editline] http://www.armslist.com/posts/1256032/raleigh-north-carolina-rifles-for-sale--chinese-sks-like-new- Oh god it's right near me. That price seems a bit high, thoughts?
Good thing I'm a boat mechanic and have shitloads of outboards. Thanks!
I keep wondering if I should cancel that Sig order and buy a S&W .357, either a 586 or a 686...
so yeah that guy with the sl-8 wants 1,800$ along with my RPK for the SL-8. Passing on that one
does this guy have any sense of value [editline]16th April 2013[/editline] seriously, how does he expect anyone to say "yes" to that
does this guy have any sense of value [editline]16th April 2013[/editline] seriously, how does he expect anyone to say "yes" to that
he thinks the rifle is worth 3 grand, even though you can buy them new at half that price. His justification is that H&K is discontinuing the SL-8 this year.
His justification is that H&K is discontinuing the SL-8 this year.
his idea of being an opportunist is blown way out of proportion, offer him a buffalo nickel and a bag of peanut m&m's for shits and giggles.
