You wanna talk expensive? It costs your bank account balance plus your first born for a box of .303 nowadays
$19.50 is the cheapest my store sells them for, and that's cheap-ass 180gr Winchester soft-points.
Cheapest I was able to get it in store before the panic was $26/box. Now it's like $30/box. It can be had online for $13/box but naturally it's always out of stock

So I'm thinking that for now on I should only attempt to do business with people that are semi computer-literate. It feels like half the reason the pistol deal fell through is because he couldn't fucking type to save his life and I couldn't understand his emails. [editline]23rd April 2013[/editline] Not to mention he had a bunch of different guns in a photo attached to the email. I mentioned them and he was like "I dunt no wut yuor tlkring abot"
.30-30 is 3$ a round here. .308 is 1.5$, same as .223 and .44 .357 is 1$ a pop along with .45 YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT EXPENSIVE MEANS [editline]23rd April 2013[/editline] The horror
How common is 7.62x39 in North America? I'd consider that, but I don't want to depend on imports.
7.62x39 is available in bulk and surplus for dirt-ass cheap. $250 for 1440 in Canada, and even less in the US. Also, where's Download been? His Australian knowledge is needed in MD.
How common is 7.62x39 in North America? I'd consider that, but I don't want to depend on imports.
Walmart sells Tula steel cased for 5$/20rds.
How common is 7.62x39 in North America? I'd consider that, but I don't want to depend on imports.
Just about every walmart in the US sells a dozen different brands of 7.62x39, not to mention you can easily find surplus 7.62x39 in gunstores/pawn shops/ and online.
Working on a new stock setup, waiting on the buffer tube and castle nut
Working on a new stock setup, waiting on the buffer tube and castle nut
I really like that. AR-15 grips and stocks. You should put an A2 Fixed stock on it for the hell of it. :v: [editline]23rd April 2013[/editline]
I should get them Mid June, I believe this whole crap goes into effect in october. I'm under the impression I need to finish drilling holes and engrave a number into the receiver by October and I should be good? Or are there more hoops to jump through? My main thing is I want to have the receiver, then build the rest of the gun eventually, is it doable?
You'll have to find a Machine Shop/Mill Shop that can do the internal milling for you, it is more than just drilling holes. Since you're in a state that will have a serialized ban, I would get the Mill Shop to machine a serial into it, example, my last name is Womack, so I might get WOMACK0000 and WOMACK0001, etc... It doesn't matter what the serial is, hell, it can be "X" or "0" for that matter. Check out the ATF's FAQ page on "MANUFACTURE OF A FIREARM/RECEIVER"

I have to order it all online or pay $20 per at the nearest shop that carries it.

I've been avoiding the gun control thread there like the plague for a wile now. I found the stupidity depresses me

This is how we do our shootin' down south!
did i drewd this ok?
That Aimpoint sure as shit doesn't look like it's got a 100mm objective lens like the 3x100 on the side implies, I think it's more likely a 3-100x20.

Well it looks like our only kickass range has shut down, apparently due to bypass construction that wont be finished till 2016. Now I have no where to shoot that isn't 2 hours away. But of course there is hundreds of private ranges near me. God damn back in the day you can just pull over at any gravel pit off the side of the road and shoot what the fuck happened.
(Its a joke)
I know that, but even a joke must be executed properly. That, and I was bored and kinda felt like being a bit of a smartass.
One more day til the new Glock... bah
One more day til the new Glock... bah
What're you getting?
The Lee-Enfield I was looking at fell through. The guy just stopped e-mailing me, which is always nice. Now I've come to ask advice yet again. I found an M1 Garand for $850, and the only downside to it is the wood is beat all to hell. There's no chunks gouged out or cracks, but it definitely shows the wear a Korean war-era one would be expected to show. That, and there's something that I can't quite identify: [img_thumb]http://puu.sh/2G7br.JPG[/img_thumb] I know it could be nothing, but I don't want to waste money on a rifle with a rusty bolt.
You can steam out the dents with an iron
He can remove the rust with steel wool, too. Doesn't mean he wants to. I'd see how much a replacement stock would be before going any further; if nothing else, just to protect the original at the range when you're using it. As for the rusted bolt, a good cleaning should actually help.

Even if it is rust, a wire brush or steel wool and some rem oil will get rid of surface rust. Personally, I think stocks like that are cool. They show all their battle scars from the war and it makes you wonder how it got each scar. As long as it doesn't have any severe cracks, I wouldn't worry about it.
If we're posting more plates... Pics of some 1/2" Lexan and various pistol calibers I fired at it. Not shown is a later 10mm (Underwood Ammo) test, which unsurprisingly burned right on through like the 9mm and .22 mag The "vest" mentioned under the first .45 ACP is an old flack jacket (kevlar), 9mm and .22 mag dig quite deep into that however. On the left we have 1/2" mild steel and the right is 1/4" mild steel as well. Both shot at with 5.56 and 30-06. The bottom of the left plate shows penetration by 30-06 API Backside of both plates: 3/8" AR 500 steel silhouette I've shot this @ 30ft with 230gr .45ACP 100yds with 7.62x54r and 7.62x51 200yds with the same and 5.56 and 7.62x39 The most damage I've seen is a very small divot left by the 7.62x54r, and the 5.56 M855 green tip, three of which you can see clustered in the head/neck area. Thanks for the responses guys. The wood condition is fine with me, like Trunk said it adds personal value when it wasn't acquired by poor maintenance but was a result of it being carried into battle. I'll have a chance to inspect it closer when I meet the seller, and hopefully it's nothing worse than a bit of rust or cosmoline.
Boomstick show in Tallahassee this weekend, can't wait.
What're you getting?
Glock 32. Just moved back to Florida a couple months ago, haven't gotten my CCW permit back yet so I have to do the three day wait before I can pick it up.
