That is a 1911 with A1 upgrades. There is no relief cut in the frame. This is a 1911A1 frame. Notice the relief cut above the mag release:
Thanks! Yep, mine's missing that relief. I assume there's nothing special about the embattled horse being behind the engraved gripping indention on the frame, other than just machined differently from the one you posted? I know with guns, those slight minuscule things can sometimes be a major difference between one firearm to the next.
As for the registering thing; I know in Va it helps some with crime, specifically with gun theft. That's about the only thing I can think of it helping with. My Dad told me last night he thinks I should register my Colt with the state, but I'm apprehensive. VA has no required registry of non-NFA firearms, although there is a database available through the State Police on a voluntary basis. What say you, guys?

Also, on a different note: anybody have any more information, opinions, sources on this Global Arms Treaty thing the UN recently passed?

There's no point in registering your firearm with the state, especially if it is not mandatory.
Nothing will come of it beyond some paperwork and maybe having to pay a transfer fee. I'd leave it unregistered.

Something else you can do is send your serial # to Colt Historical Services (and pay a $100 fee I think) and they'll run records and print up document showing the exact date of manufacture, model, finish, etc. as well as who it was shipped to and when. On top of knowing all that the piece of paper usually adds 15 - 25% value to the gun.
When has registering anything worked
Please someone fucking tell me because no one can
The only effect registration has is lowering the amount of people that buy guns since going through the paperwork is a hassle.
Having a register of guns in circulation serves no practical purpose at all. First hand experience.

You might as well make people finish a crossword puzzle in order to get a firearm. The effect is the same.

Nice! I might just have to do that when I get the extra $100 to do so! Plus, It'd just be neat to find out what it is worth and the history behind it, alone.

Don't register your guns, it's absolutely pointless. If your gun is stolen it will probably have it's serial numbers filed off immediately.

But since serials are stamped, you could just demand the police x-ray all the found guns of same make, model and caliber, so you get your gun back. Or in the case they don't file it off, you get it back even quicker. Here in Norway there's loads of legally unregistered shotguns making it hard for the police to find out who the real owner was at the time the gun was used in a crime/or stolen
ehehehe

Don't know if it's been posted here yet, but Connecticut finally has a bill on gun control, and it's bad.... I hate this state. http://www.cga.ct.gov/2013/TOB/s/pdf/2013SB-01076-R00-SB.pdf, for your viewing displeasure.
Guys, my local gunstore has a Norinco tokarev in 7.62, for $150, and I'm fucking broke.

That's $50 too expensive. Apparently you used to be able to get a Norc Tok here for $99 about 3 years ago, and you could get it in either 9mm or 7.62.
Got a surprise for you guys in about two hours or so... something unique :v:
Will get pics ASAP
I have a huge mental opposition against Norinco Tokarevs. Mainly because if you touch my fathers and don't oil it within a day you will start getting some surface rust where the oils from your hands contacted it.

This could be a voluntary, privately provided service. No need to make it mandatory.

Provide some indirect fire so the police can move up.
