Just shows how good the Mosin action is
"You need to back off on the charge! ... Let's step it up." Love that line. I now want a Mosin, gaise... what have you done...?!
I'd pay about $500 for a K-31 w/ diopter sights. Now if it were a 1911 with diopters, those go for a little more
Anyone know anything? I've googled around but I can't find anything definitive that's recent.
The diopter sights alone are worth more than the gun, for the US $800 doesn't seem too unreasonable.
Swiss diopter sights go for ~$200 - $250 typically from what I've seen
The diopter sights alone are worth more than the gun, for the US $800 doesn't seem too unreasonable.
$800 for a K31 is twice what I would pay for it. EDIT: Hell, Classicfirearms had them for less than 400 before they went out of stock.
Is there a good place to order one from? Simpson Ltd. is completely sold out of the ones that were less than $500.
This place seems to have them in stock. Never ordered from them before though.
The gun in Canada is less than $300, but the diopter sights are harder to come by. Granted, I haven't done a ton of research on the K31. I imagine the diopter a being anywhere from $200-400. I know I'd never pay $800 for a K31 in Canada, but I know they were pricier in the US. Apparently it's still $200 too much, though.

Dumb question of the day: Is there any body armor out there that can completely stop an AP .50 BMG round fired from an M107?
Dumb question of the day: Is there any body armor out there that can completely stop an AP .50 BMG round fired from an M107?
A tank
Dumb question of the day: Is there any body armor out there that can completely stop an AP .50 BMG round fired from an M107?
At what range? I think 1/2" AR500 armor plate would do it, but thats 20+ lbs for a SAPI plate sized piece that you could put in a plate carrier... And this is .50 BMG Ball, not AP or anything. Not that it matters ofc, you'd probably die from blunt force trauma... Incoming executive order on imported ammo/accessories...
Incoming executive order on imported ammo/accessories...
wuh oh, whats happenin?
Called it last time, might as well call it this time... http://marketdailynews.com/2013/04/23/president-obama-to-ban-importation-of-ammo-magazines-and-gun-accessories-without-congressional-approval/
Is there any NON corrosive 8mm mauser bulk ammo that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? ( anything over $300 for around 1000 rounds. )
X-Bolt: http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/firearms/detail.asp?fid=023B&cid=035&tid=201 A-Bolt: http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/firearms/detail.asp?fid=001B&cid=035&tid=012 The A-Bolt is a good $100 more expensive, at least.
You are looking at A-Bolt's with the BOSS system. Subtract $200 from those prices for the price without BOSS. Browning used to charge in the neighborhood of $249 to have a BOSS system installed on an X-Bolt. Last I checked was in 2008 when I still had my X-Bolt. A-Bolt's ARE cheaper than X-Bolt's. My family has been buying Browning rifles for years. I own an A-Bolt Hunter (I owned an X-Bolt Composite Stalker at one point, but sold it), one of my uncles owns an A-Bolt Hunter, another uncle owns an A-Bolt Medallion, my brother-in-law owns an X-Bolt Composite Stalker and his father owns an A-Bolt Composite Stalker. The average price in a retail store for an X-Bolt Composite Stalker is around $699-$800, and $550-$650 for an A-Bolt Composite Stalker without the BOSS system. We all bought the A-Bolt's because they were cheaper, and the actions are much more robust. The magazines and the hinge plates are also a good bit more durable on the A-Bolts than they are on the X-Bolts. This was the main reason I got rid of my X-Bolt. I had constant problems with it staying seated. The final straw was when it fell out and bounced out of my stand after firing at a deer. It was a good thing I did not need a follow-up shot. Buds right now has A-Bolt Composite Stalkers for $508 on up, and X-Bolt Composite Stalkers for $616 on up.

If he's actually gonna do it that would be the stupidest shit he could pull. After which we might we impeach him.
Not trying to debate prices, because I know next to nothing about them; but I think my dad's is an A-bolt Medallion. Just throwing that out there to see what the difference is between it and the hunter models?
Dumb question of the day: Is there any body armor out there that can completely stop an AP .50 BMG round fired from an M107?
It depends on range. At extreme ranges your .50 is going to strike with the same forces as a .30-06 at between 100 and 300 meters. So theoretically in Afghanistan where shots of ~ a mile are taking place, maybe? Average distances for a mounted machine gun that uses it more often in the urban environment against plated vehicles or engine blocks of civilian transports; no. That and executive orders still don't have power to harm the average American, anyways.
Not trying to debate prices, because I know next to nothing about them; but I think my dad's is an A-bolt Medallion. Just throwing that out there to see what the difference is between it and the hunter models?
The Medallion is just the fancy model. It uses a more expensive wood for the stock, and has the gloss finish. They are functionally the same as the Hunter models.
Dumb question of the day: Is there any body armor out there that can completely stop an AP .50 BMG round fired from an M107?
That AR500 plate will stop it, but you're dead either way.

I sell these guns for a living, the A-Bolt is more expensive, and our store sells both for $100 less than MSRP, but even still the cheapest A-Bolt we sell is about $799.
I never even thought of that... I might just have to go pick that Mauser up after my paycheck this summer! Too bad it was the older style with the straight bolt release, so a scope would be a bitch on the eye-relief... :/ [editline]24th April 2013[/editline] a LOOOT of bolt action rifles are based of the Mauser platform. If I recall correctly, the Springfield '03, '17 Enfield, and all the way up to the Remington 700 had direct, or near-direct elements of the action based off/around it.
Well what bolt action isnt based off of a Mauser? It's bolt with a handle you slide back n forth.
Well what bolt action isnt based off of a Mauser? It's bolt with a handle you slide back n forth.
Lee Enfield/Lee-Metford, Mosin Nagant, Berthier, Lebel, Schmidt-Rubin, Puska 35M, Madsen M47, Ross Rifle, Krag-Jørgensen, MAS-36, and so on.
IIRC, Browning invented a bolt action without even knowing about Mauser's bolt too.
The Lebel predated the G98, so the Lebel 1886 would be one good example of a rifle not based off of the Mauser Gewehr 1898.

I bought it brand new from a local sporting goods store for $599.99 plus tax. My uncle with the A-Bolt hunter has the exact same gun, and he paid the exact same price. I do not know what my other uncle paid for his Medallion. My brother-in-law and I paid $667 for our X-Bolts, we bought them at the same place. I don't remember the exact price his father paid for this A-Bolt, but it was around $515 I believe. The A-Bolts are older models, and they are cheaper than X-Bolts. If you want, I'm even willing to go around to gun stores and take pictures of the sticker prices. If I'm not mistaken, you are from Canada, no? That may have something to do with the pricing differences, but I do not know. Also, Browning's website has been out-of-whack for a long time. They add new stuff, but hardly ever change what is on there. They definitely still produce A-Bolts without BOSS, our gun stores get them all the time.
