Not sure if it's the trailer, but it looks like a very linear multiplayer experience. Should have been more open like in Battlefront 1 & 2.
Gameplay looks great though. Only complaint is that the vehicles and ships feel quite disconnected from the rest of the battle. I'm not quite sure how to word it.
In Battlefield playing Rush and playing Conquest were extremely different, I'm sure this will be too. You can't judge the whole game and every map off this one trailer.
And am I the only one who got a sense of large maps from this trailer? It starts in a bunker, goes up mountainish things, and ends in flat snow fields... seems pretty big to me.
Judging from the objectives on the HUD, the map area could be this large:

+ the bunker/hanger area
This is looking good. I'm only disappointed by the third person over-the-shoulder view. I hate it when games go for that way off to one side camera.
This gives about as much insight into playing the actual game as much as literally every other battlefield trailer: none. I wouldn't get too excited until there's gameplay that isn't 100% scripted.
I still want space battles :(
I don't really like how the alien heads look like they're just pasted onto human bodies. It's weird

That's what they were though, haha

The maps looks fun, not too big not too small, just enough vehicles where they aren't gimmicky but but feel useful and threatening.
The sound effects were done correctly which is huge for me, each blaster and cannon on the ships had the right sounds.
[editline]15th June 2015[/editline]
however, that grenade he threw, the sound effect doesnt seem to fit in the star wars universe as well. You can really tell (if you're a super nerd like me) what sounds are new and recycled form the movies. However, I am pretty anal about sound design. The music was good, playing the correct themes and all for Hoth
I hope that you hear stuff like that comms chatter in the real game. All of the dialogue pretty much sounds like it'd fit in an original Star Wars film.
[editline]16th June 2015[/editline]
Obviously, there should be an option to disable it. But it's a nice touch and makes the world seem a lot more full.
vehicles are pilotable
this looks amazing. like i was afraid of what this might be shitty, and the fallout 4 reveal was lackluster to me, but this just feels great.
those explosion effects are so good, but I think the best part is the animations. when the stormtroopers run through the trencches gunning down rebels, the way the rebels fall as they die and run and such feels so cinematic. I can see what they meant by making it feel like you're in the movie
you must be blind or expect too much if you think the fallout 4 reveal was "underwhelming"
iron sights despite EA telling us "no iron sights this time!!! totally",
I'm starting to think people like you never actually watch the video
They showed it actually does have 3rd person view. I wonder if that was due to the backlash after they said it was 1st person only.
They've been saying for a LONG TIME that it's both.
I came into the thread with a negative slant on Battlefront, I've been very cautiously pessimistic since day one of the announcement
What I just saw was the next gen version of Battlefront I couldn't have imagined If I'd tried. As in, its what Battlefront should be. Third person, awesome maps, vehicles, heroes, and on top of all that, the graphics and gunplay/animations are really looking impressive to me.
Yeah, maybe you can pull an obscure title or two out of your arse and discount that last bit, but I think that's some of the most technically impressive FPS gameplay I've ever seen.
They showed it actually does have 3rd person view. I wonder if that was due to the backlash after they said it was 1st person only.
They've never said it was First Person only. They said 2 years ago it would have both.
They also showed Third Person in one of the dev blogs that came out around Celebration in May.
Looks fantastic, although people will nitpick just about everything.
It looks great but unfortunately I don't think the actual battles will play anything like that in the final release. Eg those TIE fighters flying in formation looks heaps cool but obviously no one is going to do that online.

The footage is heavily scripted and leaves many questions in the open. A conclusive summary can only be made when we get to see unedited footage from several full matches. It would be a bad decision to pre-order just because of this trailer.

Well yeah but when people complain about things they can't get from the trailer like ironsights or small maps and complain about it, it's really tiring to see.
THIS LOOKS SO AMAZING! To be honest, I wouldn't care if the CIS was added later as DLC along with Naboo etc
Is the capture point mode still in? That was the only gamemode besides XL that mattered.
Those animations look great.
I hope they don't change it to the weird stiff snappy animations Battlefield had
Where was it confirmed that the AT-ATs are on rails? E3 trailers always have people playing weirdly to show off the graphics.
The maps appear to be pretty tiny. I hope they have bots to make it feel like more than 20 vs 20 at least.
Yeah, that's pretty darn small. Do we know if they're going to add bots to the game, though? The bots in the original Battlefront games were awesome; they also added to the "crazy war zone" atmosphere of the games. I remember playing bot matches all of the time and having a blast.

If there's only AI players in a single game mode i'm putting money on it being "you + 3 other players vs. the AI" in some kind of horde mode.
I really don't understand the rose tinted glasses of space battle

this was like, new and fun once, but anything remotely resembling this would feel way out of place given the rest of the game is troop oriented, vehicles being support/powerplay material to the ground troop push-and-shove
if battlefront provides engaging aerial combat in the middle of the standard battlegrounds like the hoth scene from the trailer (there were star destroyers and whatever those big rebel ships are floating very nearby, they're likely carriers), I'll happily fly and participate in the fights like in battlefield, but it'd be a jarring change of pace to opt out of the core of the game so I can flop around a big empty area and shoot at occasionally shoot at enemy ships
I've significantly warmed up to this game after seeing that but I'll still remain cautious. EA has burned me far too many times.
Also the AT-ATs are still on rails.
They confirmed gunner view back during celebration.
From what I understand the AT-AT in Battlefront 2 could be walked literally anywhere on the map. I won't tolerate excepting accepting this as good by Battlefield standards, it has to be good by Battlefront standards.
well at least the AT ATs are pilotable, although I'm not sure what the fuck that under gun view was supposed to be, I hope they give you the option of first person mode in the AT ATs
Different cannons, the AT AT sports two gun types.
Rapid fire twin side mounted guns which is when you have top view.
Powerful underside dual cannons which you use when you have the under view.
The side cannons are for spamming infantry because you can fire off more rounds with the 4 guns, the underside are for hitting stuff hard because it's basically two fucking cannons.
The view changes to give you a better field of view respective to what gun you're using, also gives you a clear visual representation of which gun type you're actually using as well. Its a smart, simple move.
oh my god
it looks like Star Wars, it sounds like Star Wars
it's fucking Star Wars, i'm almost crying over here
ill analyze the 'gameplay' elements later because i'm emotionally incapable of doing that right now
[editline]16th June 2015[/editline]
screw the "almost" just watched the Co-Op vid and the music had me in tears
I'll be honest, I'm fine with the AT-AT being this big mobile gunship instead of a pilotable vehicle. If it's on rails, you can make it a really big, beefy, frightening thing without letting it be too overpowered, and you don't have to worry about a moron AT-AT driver losing the battle because he ran off to a corner of the map.
I think it's ultimately a better gameplay decision, even if it's not what we had before.
Everything else looked stellar. I think the graphics were actually better than the CGI they used in the prequels.
I just love the sound design. It really does sound like Star Wars, with iconic... everything. DICE has always been good with the sound department, they are sure to deliver.
On the other hand, AT-STs move way too smoothly. I liked it better in the earlier trailers, where they jerked and made sharper motions, like in the movies. Seems they toned that down a bit to make more sense. Still looks good though.
I was not disappointed. It looks like Battlefront 2 jacked up on roids.
Also, there may not be space battles, but there is still a dogfighting mode on various planets.
yet, they talked about the possibility of space in future content.
